Nice drawfriend today, I wondered how long it would take before #17 was done is some way, shape or form.
I'm not sure why people seem to think Hasbro *need* to own Wizards of the Coast to get access to - and the clue's in the phrase - creatures from ancient mythology. I don't think they could lay a claim on dragons, manticores, hydra, basilisks, not to mention, duh, unicorns and pegasi.
Not even the US Congress has tried to extend copyright back *that* far. They truly are public domain.
Parasprites, quarry eels, draconequis... maybe, but I doubt they got those from WotC anyway.

@Dorian Creed Fosters Home for Imaginary friends... At least I'm pretty sure. The imaginary puppies that get loose in the house.
#1: I really wish John Joseco would spend more time on art like this; I miss seeing at least one new color drawing a day from him. This is a terrific action drawing; the quarry eels, which looked only somewhat threatening in the episode, are genuinely scary here.
#2: Solar Slash has the perfect art style to capture this particular scene from the new episode.
#3: A simple doodle, but dang Pinkie Pie looks cute.
#4: An excellent, subdued portrait of Applejack. Karol Pawlinski has been on a roll with her lately.
#5: Yes! There's just something so funny and endearing about Dashie looking so preppy.
#6: This almost looks like it could have come directly from the show.
#7: The big-eye, almost-chibi style is cute, but what's really nice about this drawing is the vivid colors.

Question on the eels - has anyone else here played the Sega Genesis game HOOK (based on the Dustin Hoffman/Robin Williams movie)? Because I think I remember eels like that in the game (they flipped over Goomba-style and floated to the bottom if killed).

#1 I have to agree with jodyjm13; I wish we'd see more dynamic action pieces like this from John Joseco. And he works so quickly too, which always garners my envy. A fabulous capture of that scene from the episode; it truly makes those eels look as terrifying as I imagine they would be.

#23 I know these Rainbow quotes are used almost to the point of annoyance now, but I still like this image very much... the bright, glowing barred colors over the flat black background are just striking. Another picture that I'm sure would be fabulous on a T-shirt.

I love the artist's style and the painterly feel of the entire thing (I'm pretty sure I have gushed about their works on Drawfriends in the past, because this certainly seems familiar to me). And while it probably seems like a small point of mention, I wanted to say that I LOVE the way they painted the end of Twilight's tail, with that cut-off brush look... it really adds a great feeling of dimension for me and I adore that! <3

#27 This picture is pretty awesome... the art style itself isn't really my speed but I simply adore all of the colors and light and just the wonderful dynamic energy of the whole thing. It really suits Vinyl perfectly. A truly gorgeous artwork and I love the little touch of Octavia's picture there!

@StrangeNoise Well, yeah, but they're the boring ones. Manticores, Dragons, Chimerae, and Hydras are public domain, but I'm pretty sure I've got an old 3.5 book with Quarry Eels in it somewhere. Besides, traditional western dragons (i.e. every dragon in the show so far) don't have magic powers, so I'm sure they at least cribbed that from WotC.
Also, if they aren't using a D&D book to come up with monsters, they should. I mean sure, it'd be a tad of a cop out, but at least they'd have around 500 different(ish) monsters they could use when they needed them.
#10- Judging from the comments in this drawfriend, a few people haven't ever played the Bloodlines/Rondo of Blood/Symphony of the Night series, otherwise you'd recognize that Pony!Maria Renard. A well done Pony!Maria Renard. Makes me want to see a Pony!Richter Belmont and Pony!Alucard.
I'd say public domain monsters are about as tough as you'd want to throw at My Little Pony. There's no way they'd be able to handle the likes of mind flayers, beholders, slaadi, eldrazi, slivers, planeswalkers, or something world-ending like a tarrasque, worm that walks, or atropol.
It'd be epic to see, however. I'd totally go see a MLP: FIM movie if it had the Mane 6 up against some of the aforementioned.
