When I think of all that has been said, done, and produced for the sake of this show by both the creators and fans alike in only ONE year...my mind is blown so hard.
To Lauren Faust and the development team, thank you for still believing in quality. I haven't loved a "kids' cartoon" like this since the 90s, and to feel this way again is such a joyful experience.
To the fans, thank you for proving that we can appreciate such as this...and for all of the awesome/hilarious/touching tributes you have made. ;)

I think the most remarkable and wonderful part of the Pony phenomenon is the way that this lovely and enchanting cartoon has broken down the gender barriers that once dictated what males and females were supposed to watch and enjoy. Those barriers had been entrenched for generations, and yet they have crumbled beneath six sets of pastel-colored hooves. Lauren Faust and the Bronies have together fomented a gender-neutral revolution that even feminism couldn't bring about. Kudos to them and to Equestria Daily for making the impossible...happen. :)

I remember back in December talking with my friend about how it hit /b/ and seemed to be taking over. I also remember being one of the many against ponies and even derailing a pony thread by posting terrible, terrible things. I kept up my anti-pony stance until summer break, when I marathoned the entire season over 3 days out of curiosity. Needless to say, I'm now a proud brony and have semi-converted my friend to the side of good. Happy birthday FiM, and brohoofs all around!

I absolutely love everything the past year has brought me. I was in a dark place before this show, and it helped pull me out.

Y'know... I have to say. My introduction to My Little Pony went substantially different than most people's seemed to.
I hear the overwhelming majority of people's stories being that they either hated the show, disliked it, or didn't see what the fuss was about, got into it, watched it all and enjoyed it.
Wasn't like that for me. And I still find all of the negative reaction as well as the general reaction odd.
I first heard of this show, and already was perfectly willing to give it a full chance.
I knew of Lauren Faust's work. I knew her from co-developing a large part of another of my favorite series, The Powerpuff Girls as Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends.
I instantly saw no reason to doubt the series and it's ability to be good. Also, I was already well acquainted with many anime series. Especially those involving a female ensemble cast, and never felt any shame in enjoying those, either.. ranging from Galaxy Angel, to Pani Poni Dash, Azumanga Daioh, Sailor Moon, Galaxy Fraulien Yuna, ect, ect.
Now mind you, I am a 32 year old man. I watch anything entertainment based, or at least give everything a fair chance. I still watch Cartoons. I grew up on the immortal classics. Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, The Pink Panther, Woody Woodpecker. And I never lost my love for animation. I watch raunchy, edgy adult-oriented shows or shows with crude humor. I watch Ren and Stimpy, Beavis & Butt-Head, South Park.
I also watch a lot of things easily regarded as cute or childish by some. Tiny Toon Adventures, Dexter's Laboratory, even such shows lately as Adventure Time. I am an animation fan. I have enough in my heart for animated shows of all kinds, and I hope that more people open up to see it this way.
So I instantly embraced My Little Pony without a second thought. I knew of Faust. I knew cartoons. I am a man, and I am completely accepting of things even regarded as cute or adorable, or even sugary. As long as it's good and there's something behind it to suggest quality, I'm there.
Watch the show, accepted it and loved it.
Now, why do I bring all this up? My point is, it still flabbergasts, confuses and utterly baffles me to see the hatred of this show by so many, outside of the fanbase.
Is it just me? Or is there something that changes the status quo of My Little Pony to make it harder for others to put their ignorance or pre-concieved notions aside far enough to watch it, more so, then people who accept films like Toy Story, anime like Sailor Moon, or cartoons like The Powerpuff Girls. I'm sure none of those shows had it as hard as MLP does.
I openly celebrate MLP's first year of existence. I appreciate and love seeing all of the fan appreciation. I just still remain confused as to how this show continues to be such a hard sell to other people out there.
Am I too open minded? Are the people that don't get it too close minded?
It is my hope that MLP's fanbase continues to spread and the show continues to put out quality stories, and make new episodes... But I also look forward to a time when MLP isn't a show that people half to fight about, or have to put up with such a large contingent of trolls as it does.
I sincerely hope that MLP's biggest resolution for the year of 2012, is to become a cultural phenomenon that people can stop fighting about, and either sit back and enjoy it, or leave well enough alone, if they don't want to watch it.
That aside, happy birthday to MLP and the MLP fanbase. Still diggin' it.

I'm with ya on the animation fan bit, but not everyone thinks that way *shrugs* what can ya do? I was introduced to FiM in the conventional, unconventional way...checking it out on The Hub when nothing else was on and getting hooked. The knowledge of the fanbase came after, though I was happy to learn Lauren worked on it after the fact, being aware of her and her previous works.

Let me add more of a short version of what i'm trying to say...
Basically... As someone who understand animation, loves cartoons, and as someone who sees nothing odd or even slightly wrong with liking a show that seems "girly" coming from someone who identifies with...
I, a 32 year old man, enjoy well-written, ensemble cast stories, and I easily find My Little Pony charming. Yet, I find it strange that so many people needed their arm twisted to enjoy this great show, or to take a look past their own nose to get into it. It was an easy sell for me, and I don't see why it's so hard to love for anyone.
I love and appreciate this 1st year anniversy, but even more so, I take this celebration as a chance, to look forward to a time when there would be no more fighting about this show, between the fanbase and the people who won't give it a chance, as I so easily did.
To all the bronies, and even the non-bronies, a toast: May MLP's legacy become 100% known for all time as a show that wasn't just a repository for internet memes (as nice as they are to see), but also known as a show that eventually, successfully invited peace and harmony to the notion of fanbases and the interests of all people, everywhere. :)

Saying anything else is irrelevant.
I had refused to watch the show until last August when my friend finally convinced me to try one episode, resulting in me watching every single other episode in a total of 3 days. I initially insisted I just "watched the show" and tried avoiding any other pony-related things and refused to call myself a brony.
And then one day I accidently came on this site and kept coming back and back.
Just yesterday I convinced three other people to watch it too.

I actually became a brony by accident on 4/24/11. Flipping through the DirecTV channels stumbled onto The Hub and saw the MLP episode "party of one" and became hooked ever since. When I saw the episode for the first time I thought "OK I'll give this show a try" and after the show ended I found myself recording the show on my DVR everytime MLP aired. Best animated show I have seen in years. Let's keep the show going and let's release Season 1 on DVD please!
