From now until Halloween day, grab a pumpkin, carve some pony, and send it to Submit@equestriadaily.com with PUMPKIN as the subject. We will take the top 30 on the final day and compile them into an event post.

What the hay. That artist, ceemdee, who carved that pumpkin, did an amazing job. Look at RD's hair! She cut layers into it to make it seem like different shades of orange! This is amazing! All of her pumpkins!

Hey there. Hope this gets read. A few video game sites did something similar to this last year, and there was a TON of fighting because some pumpkins were actually fully carved, while others used ink stencil for some or all of the work. You may want to look into the different techniques, and make a decision if they're acceptable for the contest.
I will love it if somepony could do a bunch of stencils or such so us non-talented bronies can carve Rainbow Dash on our pumpkins.
For anypony who has one, Hobby Lobby has durable, foam-like pumpkins made just for carving without half the mess, the smell or the disposal.
Meaning, your pumpkin carved this year, can also be next years.
I'd advise against using a candle inside, just because it's reusable, unless you put a tray or something to catch the wax.
It's also light and might get blown over in a strong enough wind.

I'm using a store that I've been to maybe five times in as many years as a source for fake pumpkins to use in the event in place of real ones that can't be reused. It's not like I go to every store in existence and check who has fake pumpkins and who doesn't. I just happened to see them when I went for clay last month.
And aside from one Target while looking just for the Canterlot display, it's the only store I've been to in the last month.
They may have them at Joann, they may have them at Michael's. I'm not going to go and say they do when I haven't been there.

Fun event. I haven't carved a pumpkin for at least a few years now. Probably been longer. Not sure if I'll enter or not. I'm not too great at it, plus I've been strapped for time. But we'll see.

I did Golem once, worst 4 hours I've spent carving a pumpkin. After that, I just stick with the traditional evil faced ones.
Besides, it's not worth spending that kind of time on something that is just going to rot away within a week or so.
It's a shame that Australia doesn't celebrate Halloween, the whole atmosphere resenting from this is amazing :(
Seth, I implore you, please extend the deadline by a measly day. I'll be out of town until the 30th, so I won't get a chance to carve until the night before Halloween.

Oh man, I have three pumpkins in mind for carving into pony images, but there is no way I can come close to competing with that one. Whoever made the pumpkin in that pic is a real artist.

This carving is so cool and inspirational... I just wish that every time I try to carve a pumpkin, I didnt either carve too much or accidently hurt myself. For a crafter, I am such a clutz
