That 'aint a single one of those views that hasn't been deserved. Gratz all around!
The animation thingy is probably just a piece of JavaScript that counts up at some pre-defined rate. If somepony’s put some effort into it, the rate may be extrapolated in some way, but at the moment EqD’s actual views are increasing faster than the animation. Just let it run for a minute, memorize the count, and reload. In my case it jumped up by some 200.

@wackyteen I thought so. Some morons at school took it as a sign that it's fake, & the show isn't as popular as we'd want them to think. So I told them to search My Little Pony on deviantart, youtube, facebook, twitter, tumblr, etc. & then told them of EQD, EQGaming, EQRadio, Everypony Radio, derpyhooves.com, RDN, Flankbook, A bunch of forums, & a few others. :P

Well this blog may have more views than what we can tell. You know how the views count up without much of a change in pace? Well it could be that the blog is getting more views than it can register at a time. So what if everyone just stopped visiting this site for a while; the number would keep on rising until its caught up.
Although I'm not sure about that at all, its just something I wouldn't doubt.
and well if you went off of that logic.. you could just do, putting it simply, every 1 second = 1 view and that may give you a fairly good estimate of what day a said number of views would be.
Fun Fact: Almost 20% of those views came after the start of Season 2.

When I first checked Equestira daily this site was celebrating 9 million page views.
Sometimes I feel afraid that this is growing too quickly and will soon consume the world, but then I remember that ponies are awesome.

@Forte Canter The way hit counters like that work (ones that update dynamically, rather than statically) is pretty simple. They average traffic over a certain amount of time and go up based on that average. Considering that EqD has been up for as long as it has, it would take a pretty significant spike or trough to alter the counter's speed.
Depending on the exact traffic at the time, the 50 millionth hit may have come a bit before or after the counter updating to that point (likely a bit after, considering the early time that it hit at). But it wouldn't have been off by much. If the counter gets ahead of the actual count in the morning, it likely gradually falls behind over the course of the day, before catching up at night. Starting the cycle anew.

I'm not trying to be that precise about it. The guesstimation is all just for fun. The time frame I'm using is the amount it took to go from 40 to 50, which is roughly 19 or so days, and even less precisely, about 2 and a half weeks. I do hard, precise calculations for my thesis, I don't intend on doing them for pony.

Time goes really fast
Okay, I've done a bit of maths regarding the view count. At this present time of day there are a close approx. of 300 views per minute.
Although the view counter, being restricted to its top speed, goes up at a rate of 100 views per minute.
So the views are 3x the rate at which the visible counter are going.
However, I expect this is no where near peak time and is probably the minima time. So we should be going up at a greater rate at around 1900 EST. I'd estimate 500 views/minute, but that is a general guess.
Hm.. so from now on, we'll party every 2 weeks due to another 10 Mio?
Come on guys, work harder! It has to be EVERY week.. and on Saturday... uh yeah!

I started bronyhood a bit late, season 1 was already finished, so my first visit here was about 20 million views ago. 20 million views in around 1 month. That is amazing!

Important: The timer is not fake.
Proof: It is a simple piece of java that can only count so fast (As this site is getting views faster than it can count.) So the way to tell that it is real is to memorize the current counter number. Then refresh the page, and the number will jump up. (Mine jumped up by a good 300)

After fussing around in Excel for a couple minutes, I came up with a very precise date and time based on the exact number of days and hours it took to go from 40 to 50. I got January 13, 2012 at 10:39 am Pacific standard time. Like I mentioned before, the rate of hits will probably increase in the coming weeks, so it'll probably be closer to the Jan 1st-Jan 7th. But, I'm no prognosticator, so take of that what you will. :3 (I earlier misremembered when 40 was hit. I was a day off.)
