Comics: Dis Problem/ High Expectations

I have not laughed as hard at a comic submission as I have at the above comic in a long, long time. How long? I don't remember. That's how funny I found it. It was, to quote a certain someone, "Priceless!"

But enough about Lesson Zero, eh? It's time to start getting psyched up for Luna! Are you ready for next week? She is!

But I'm going to take this time to reiterate a comment I made eons ago, when the Luna episode was first announced.

People need to stop expecting people to get butthurt over her canon personality. I know, for the most part, this fandom is more mature than that, and I have complete faith in the writers to do their job and create another lovable character out of her.

If you haven't noticed, every single one of you did the exact same thing with Discord. When he was first announced, people immediately decided he would end up as a rehash of Nightmare Moon, and forecasted an incoming sh*tstorm. Then, a picture of him popped up somewhere. So those same people judged his goofy appearance and said he would not be a good villain. It wasn't until 3 seconds of footage of him was released and it was realized that he was voiced by John de Lancie did everyone shut up and take the premiere for what it was worth.

Too many of you are judging both the writers' ability to make Luna a good character and the audience's reaction to her canon character. And you will probably continue to do this, despite how illogical and unreasonable this behavior is.

I can say, in good faith, that there will be no sh*tstorm, so leave your umbrellas and galoshes inside and enjoy the sunlight. Or moonlight, in this case.; October 17, 2011 at 9:12 PM

Luna brings up a good point.

Sometimes, I think, we as fans, tend to start feeling entitled to everything we all individually want to see, instead of being able to sit back and watch a creator show you their vision of their show and being pleasantly surprised by the outcomes and decisions and personality traits of the characters we love, and therefore should be trusting and supporting.

And this is not just a Pony thing, this is an Everything thing.

Stories in video games, television shows, movies, cartoons, you name it.

Sometimes we forget that while it's fine to have theories and even certain expectations, we also shouldn't forget that it was the unique story crafting and endearing character development that brought us all together to enjoy these stories in the first place.

Even if the her that gets shown in the upcoming episode casts her as the villain...even if she ends up getting hated by everyone else...and when the whole notion of the NLR fades away, I will STILL be thinking that "Luna is Best Pony."

If canon Luna erases fanon Luna partially (which is likely, probably even unavoidable) or even wholly (I'd wager as unlikely), I will still look forward to the opportunity to fall in love with Luna for the first time all over again.

#2: Well we do have a template already set up for her, "A 'good' character, but not necessarily the type of 'good' that we've seen and/or might expect." I've actually come to the conclusion there's two things that will make me turn from a fan to a hater.

1.) If she's made into a clone of one of the mane six. (I'm looking at you Twilight)

2.) They give her the one personality I can't stand, "Valley Girl"
