Remix War Round 4 Results Are In!

This is an event that has gained an absolutely staggering amount of steam as it has gone on. How much steam? Well, this 4th iteration produced 78 songs, which is... just... wow. I'm listening to them as I work, and I am extremely impressed. The brony music community is talented as all heck, and we are lucky they're all such prolific self motivators. My mp3 player is less lucky; I've got to keep deleting old songs to make room for all of this pony!

I hate wubstep and wemixes. I like YTPMV and real instruments. Well, synthed-real are fine, but I won't bother with this 10 minuet creative process music. Just put a beat, a clip of a pony song and/or name it after pony.

Dude, there's music from all walks of life in the Remix War! For example, I write classical, so no 'wubsteps' from me!
As another example, Tarby does...well, his thing...:P
What I'm saying is the name "Remix War" is misleading, because many musicians participate that don't remix as such!
For everyone else, the pieces are FANTASTIC this time around! Enjoy everyone!

@Psudopod

I sincerely hope I'm feeding a parasprite here. Really? Those synthesized sounds take A LONG WHILE to make, because you're essentially creating sounds from scratch. Give these guys credit for what they do.

'Sides. There are plenty of orchestral, rock, and non-techno songs in there.

Doing my service to blow out your ears, here's a little gift for all you masochistic ponies in the audience. Fair warning: this track was banned for being potentially dangerous for some foals' ears because of a sharp volume change. Don't say I didn't warn ya.

Haha, in all seriousness guys, wow. Really, just wow. The final remix round and you all went out with a bang, the amount of talent here is just staggering. Every time you guys put out one of these remix war rounds I'm left in awe, from the beautiful 'Impressions of Celestia' by Makkon, to the hilarious 'Wacky Factory' by Brony Mike, you guys cover every inch of the musical spectrum and I truly love all of it and all of you for the dedication and inspiration you give.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have hours of music to listen to.

@Psudopod

I agree with Versilaryan. I did three songs, one of which involved real instruments, one wubstep and one involving grime.

The real instrument song took me about 5 hours all up. I just wrote the track recorded it and touched it up

The wubstep took me about 15-20 hours, because although I had to sort out the actual remixing process, I already had all my previously made wobble patches.

The grime song, which was writing in another person's style took me about 30 hours for a 2 minute song. I had to spend that long completely synthesizing sound to try and emulate another musician.... That stuff is crazy.

I can respect your dislike for particular styles of music, I have no qualms with that. But to say that any of the musicians in the Remix Wars put in only 10 minutes of effort to their creative process is to totally scorn the amount of passion that each and every member of the MLP music community has for their craft. Seriously.

/Rant. My apologies for getting caught up in this so much.

I'm so glad I finished my Season 1 mix cd project (still have some final editing to do...hopefully you guys will see it in a couple weeks) before this came out...I would have had a massively hard time selecting tunes with this much new content added!! Guess I should start working on the Season 2 one!

So. Much. Pony. Where will I get all the time to listen?

Glomkettle said...

@Supersaw Hoover

Well, I don't see what's so- OH MY GOD WHAT

I thought it was pretty interesting, actually, although I can definitely see the reasoning behind it being kept out of the remix war.

This was awesome. Thank you to everyone who participated, we really did go out with a bang!

But we could use the break. Expect to see the Remix War up again in spring!

78? Oh my.
I'm gonna have to go through all of these songs.

Just a little cool thing. MAD from Cartoon Network was on behind me and the episode was called Thunder LOLcats. It literally referenced so many memes... I saw Rainbow Dash and a few other ponies as well. THE BRONIES MUST KNOW OF THIS!

I am just blown away by how good some of these are. These ponies are really talented. I wish I knew how to do this....

Yo. Lemme dominate this.

Daily kids, I love your endless chasing of the hundreds of tracks that we've churned out over those crazy months. It's great to see this amazing event turn to its agreeable hiatus.

I literally knew next to nothing when I started out, I just picked what sounded good and carried on from there. I've gone from making pretty little ditties in the background to having hundreds of fans and friends and exploding left and right. I have even incorporated real guitars, something I've always been afraid of doing. Composing always takes days and days of effort and I'm just loving y'all for appreciating that, and for appreciating all of the amazing members of the community. Thanks again.

Also Cat Milly has the candy swag, y'all know it~

@Versilaryan

Definitely agree with you on how hard those sounds are to create. I've just made the jump into electronic territory from real instruments.

My dad is a composer and conductor, I've been learning music since I've been a kid, but almost none of that experience transfers over into electronic music, side from basic music theory.

Dubstep, techno, remixes, and even YTPMVs take an enormous amount of skill to create.

Sequencers, annotations, filters, LFOs, VSTs, filters, and MIDI quantizing are all extremely important in electronic music, but have very little to no application in traditional music.

Learning a real instrument is easier than trying to produce a 30sec dubstep.

ByCelestiasBeard said...

I agree with the people defending electronic music, it does take a lot of time and effort to make.
Anypony that thinks it's just putting a beat to some samples is truly mistaken.

78 songs clocking in at 5 1/2 hours of music. It feels goo to have somehow, at the last minute, worked my way into 8 minutes of it.

Feels good, be on the look out for other remixes from THIS guy, and probably better vocals. Maybe. I dunno, depends on how heavy I make it. *evil laugh*

Derpy Hooves said...

If you think it takes no skill to make dubstep why don't you try it for yourself, I love dubstep, play multiple actual instruments and yet I can't make 30 seconds of worthwhile dubstep to save myself.

Overkillius said...

@Bartekko They had legit reasons to ban your songs. I hope you have seen this doc.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Hs1XXk1ccMIfCza8eyV8nAGbqB38MFdimETjz_QQ-ps/edit?hl=en_US

Don't let it get you down though, Bartekko! Also Makkon was ready to turn his in as far as I could tell... I just brought it to his attention that people wanted an extension so he made a thread about it.
