Celestia's face is pretty unreadable. It's kinda hard to tell if whatever's happening is good or bad (if the blue glow turns out to be something completely un-dramatic I'm going to feel rather silly.)

3. they are seeing the elements reacting to Discord's escape. The elements are never seen in their homes after episode 2, which means they are likely being protected within the palace.
The door slowly opens as the colourful ponies look on. A trickle of sweat crawls down each of their necks as though its fleeing. What could be behind the door? The group may not want to find out, but they become paralyzed with anticipation, gradually forming into fear. Waiting becomes unbearable. Finally, a bright, blinding, blue light bolts through as a sinister, high-pitched voice calls from behind it.
You heard it here first Discord is a Serpent-like Dragon and the Mural depicting the two sisters keeping him in check. So I suppose in order to free himself he tried corrupting Luna to defeat her sister so Discord would be able to set himself free.
If you look at Nightmare Moon's Jade Dragon-like eyes it sort of shows his influence over her. So yes I deduce that he is an chinese mythical style Dragon.
If you look in ponies gasping.. You'll see a bunch of church style coloured windows:
One shows the mane 6 defeating Nightmare Moon (Notice NMM, not Luna).
Two of them show LUNA and Celestia flying around some monster that looks like its encased in stone, looking like they're using their powers to keep it that way (purple moving from Luna, orange/yellow from Celestia). Also note the sun and moon symbols are normal.
Then there's two pictures of this monster not encased in stone, without Luna or Celestia. The sun and moon symbols have turned reddish.
Then one final one blocked out shows this monster (again not in stone) playing 3 different ponies that look like they are in agony as marionettes, with fire the same kind of red as the sun and moon symbols.
The fact that these windows exist prior to the events of Season 2 make me guess that they even existed prior to the events of Season 1. This adds to another guess that Twilight uniting with the mane 6 Celestia already knew about;
If those windows existed prior to S1 and Celestia knew Twi was going to stop NMM with the help of the other mane 5 And the mane 6 were bound to each other from the beginning by RBD's sonic rainboom (they all got their cutie marks from it - no other ponies apparently) Celestia knew this was all going to happen - including the events of S2 maybe. Think of Celestia and Luna - she knows something about HARMONY. And she knew the harmony of the mane 6 would stop NMM from the start.
Also I think RBD is related to Celestia because they're the only two with rainbow like manes and RBD's sonic rainboom brought the mane 6 together which Celestia obvs knew about. Almost as if RBD sonic rainboom set in movement the magic of friendship to bring the elements of harmony together (put that with the rest I'm saying.. yeah you get the point)
TRIPLE POST And I don't think its an animation mistake, in the one with Celestia they're standing together, but it looks like they all quickly moved behind twilight and the order changed!

It's like one corner of Celestia's castle noticed that it was not radiating neon blue light, and said to itself "No, this will not do." And then it sat down to a brunch with Ditzy Doo, and manifested oatmeal muffins, and every brony got ponified and came to the party and I was there too, and the muffins were poppyseed, and I accidentally offended the blue light by expecting blueberry, but it was okay because I prefer poppyseed, and then princess Luna gave out socks, and then I asked Pinkie to divide by zero, and- and-
I really don't know what scares the crap out of me the most:
- Celestia's "Oh shit!" face. - The aehtereal blue glow. - The freaked out faces of the mane cast. - Or the fact that I'm really not ready for season 2.
Have a look at those Stainglass Windows. Outside the reference to the first season pilot. The others have some sort of Dragon thing in them in which the two regal sisters rotate around. And another has 3 Ponies in them with Strings attached to them. Like they are being controlled like Marionettes...

If this was the cliffhanger at the end of the first episode, it would easily be comparable to the LOST season three cliffhanger. Oh god, I hope this doesn't end up as the episode one cliffhanger.

It's kind of the only good way imo, to introduce the villain when the episode appears to take place mostly inside...

There were three times I remember Celestia unfolding her wings:
In "Swarm of the Century", she unfolds one of her wings so that a parasprite can land on it.
At the end of "Feeling Pinkie Keen", Celestia makes a hard landing on the Library's balcony.
And in "Cutie Mark Chronicles", she flies up in the air while she raises the sun. :)

It was Luna who set Discord free. She's still pissed about getting two measly lines at the start of the season and NEVER COMING BACK.
