• Youtube Round 3!

After doing a bit of research on the subject, it does sound like this was simply the work of youtube trolls flagging random popular pony channels. (Again)

Hasbro can't legally say they didn't do it.  It is their copyright.  The Facebook response didn't actually confirm anything, and simply gave people an alternate location to get their episode fix from.

If the end of the world does come, I'll report it. But for now, it seems like we are safe.

    1. *sigh*
We all need to chill the f*ck out.

And even though I myself didn't think it was Hasbro, I'm not going to act like those of you who did are idiots. The troll trap was well laid, and it did look bad for a while.

Lesson for the future: respond to all threats with... NOTHING. Until hard facts are available.

    2. I can't stress enough how happy I am that Hasbro hasn't shut those channels down yet. I don't get the HUB with my TV package... and I NEED my pony fix.

    3. Thank Celestia our videos ar safe! Now let's throw a party!

    4. Ha, all this blew over while I was reading a long fanfic!

    5. Here's hoping Menlo is able to make an alt

    6. Okay so I love this community because it's so unique. that message of love and tolerance was something I thought we all took to heart, so now I AM worried. I AM freaking out because it seems this fandom is loosing its grip, don't make me loose faith in us before season 2 even airs guys

    7. We are safe? For real?

      Gosh, I love this fandom.

    8. I messaged MenloMarseilles - apparently, he knows about this but wants more conclusive proof that it's OK to put the videos back up before he actually does so.

Dammit, YouTube, I want ponies and not that Celestia-damned ":/" face.

    9. Well, I really got freaked out when I read the news but when I read the MLP Facebook page I calmed down... phew, and I gotta say "I've just been in this for 6 weeks"

      ReplyDelete
    10. Speaking as someone who can ONLY use youtube to get my pony fix...where is the proof this was not hasbro? Though I have seen plenty to support the troll attach theory (such as the fact only Menlomarcelles recieved a shutdown notice apparently from Hasbro while other full ep channels were left in peace...not to mention the shtu downs issued on user made homemade PMV's and videos)

While I respect how you looked into this, Seth...I would like to see hard evidence that this was troll activity.

    11. I'm not disappointed in the fan-response at all. It's human nature in a situation like this. Does that mean the parasprites won? No. Far from it.

Do we promote love and tolerance? Yes
Do we promote it in a way to annoy the parasprites? Yes

Our delivery is good on the surface, but the underlying motive is bad.

The original parasprite wars were won because the bronies involved took a very aggressive stance. We need to do the same here, and the best way of doing that is activity.

Make more videos. Show more people the wonderful show. Create more pro-pony threads and posts on 4chan.

These parasprites don't get it. Each and every time they've tried, we've come back harder. Now should be no different.

So spread the love and tolerance around like it's never been before. We need to make sure the people behind this realize they made a very, very stupid move.

    12. Just in case you'd want a (more quickly) downloadable archive if you haven't got one already:

Apologies for this not being in 1080p, just thought I'd throw this out there for someone.

    13. Darn, I was hoping to get a few shots off with the Low Orbital Ionic Friendship Cannon...rook forever to get up and running, that thing...

Ah, well. Now that I've set it to "idle," we shouldn't have to worry about them parasprites anymore regardless. Though I was ready to send Seth the go-ahead to push the button...

      And, @Crackle...

      THIS! IS! EQD!

    14. Out of curiosity, what did you find that confirmed that it was the trolls again?

      ReplyDelete
    15. I hate how one asshole on YouTube can mess up a video for everyone else.

      ReplyDelete
    16. I troll sometimes, in Omgele, in yahooanswers... But, MLP has become a very important part of my life and my time, so I'm serious about this: F*ck you Trolls. the fact that you don't like the show is maybe cuz you're afraid to recognize that you lie it. So I hope that Hasbro isn't doing this, and it's just a bunch of f*cking trolls.

      ReplyDelete
    17. Like person above said, The Hub should just post episodes on YouTube and do revenue sharing.

Like 70% of the fun is reading the youtube comments below the videos.

      ReplyDelete
    18. Why is no one blaming Youtube for having such a faulty flagging system in the first place?

And to anyone saying that it's Hasbro's show and they can do anything they wnat with it. Think about YOU not getting to see the show and then rethink that statement.

      ReplyDelete
    19. I pay for my online viewership by buying merch...

Think of it like this. I could fork the $80 EVERY MONTH to Comcast to get a channel I'll watch ONE series on, or I can save my money and let that $80 a month go into unlimited merch acquisition, and my other hobby, collecting vintage calculators and calculating accessories...

And yes, I have all 3 variants of the Princess Luna toy (Plain, Fashion, and Shine Brite) AND and abacus to keep them company!

I've been dumping MLP toys at my brother's kids too.

I'd say hasbro has GOT to know how valuable those youtube videos are. They won't say anything that harms their copyright, but I see no reason to suspect it wasn't a load of trolls. I don't think Hasbro did it.

      NOW...

If only those BLU-RAYs would hurry up and be announced! :D

    20. I think a lot of people need to be apologizing to Hasbro. When something like this happens, think troll first and please don't feed those F'ers.

      ReplyDelete
    21. Time to take out the adorable trash...
(not gonna do anything though, just chill)

      ReplyDelete
    22. I'm willing to reupload the entire season and possibly season two, but I need to know how to get around the fifteen minute cap on videos. Any suggestions?

      ReplyDelete
    23. I'm so glad about this. In Canada we have to watch it on a tree house where it played 3 times a week and the censor the word "LOSER" of all things...

      ReplyDelete
    24. @wiggles
I agree that anyone who sent angry letters should send follup-ups apologizing. Hasbro's been good to the community, there's no justification for being big douchey douche douchy-pants.

      ReplyDelete
    25. so hopefully theyll be back on youtube soon then right? never got them downloaded.

      ReplyDelete
    26. @Sir Chompy I've never asked before...

How the hell do you download YT videos?

      ReplyDelete
    27. We need to put those trolls out of their misery. AND KILL THEM!

      ReplyDelete
    28. YAYSIES!! WE KEEP OUR PONIES!!
      Hugsies, Sethy-wethy!!

      ReplyDelete
    29. @midnightmidna

It should actually be a troll face or a middle finger. This is because I feel like I'm being given the finger from a corporate entity that randomly takes down a video I used to enjoy for some lame reason (even if they obey the DMCA).

This isn't restricted to MLP vids as I watch a lot of other videos that get taken down at random.

YouTube hasn't been a lot of fun since copyright takedowns started.

      ReplyDelete
    30. So... where IS the channel that we can watch the episodes?

      ReplyDelete
    31. comepony call pinkie.. youtube has more parasprites on the loose

      ReplyDelete
    32. Menlomarseilles was actually my favorite channel to poni on because all the episodes were uploaded in one part.

      ReplyDelete
    33. Makes perfect sense. If I was hypothetically really bored and wanted to see how much drama I could cause, I could starting trolling 4Chan to provoke the mods to go on another pony-ban spree, then I could start hitting up the pony vids to try and get the bronies to fight back. It's a perfect recipe for drama if people don't STOP and THINK for a minute. :|

Hasbro have already shown that they're as much on our side here as they possibly COULD be, considering - if only because they're trying to get the most out of "viral" meme-style advertising, which is the cheapest advertising they possibly could get! At all times, they should be LAST on the list of suspects when it comes to something like this, and trolls should always be the first!

      ReplyDelete
    34. I was also planning on marathoning season 1 sunday. Right now i'm praying to celestia that i'll be able to complete with this glorious task.

      ReplyDelete
    35. Well, I've just downloaded the entire first season in response to this... Buck me a new one >_>

      ReplyDelete
    36. And so it was that the Orbital Friendship Laser was swiftly stopped from its imminent destruction of the Hasbro headquarters. The tense hour and thirty-odd minutes forced the world to look deep inside itself and slowly realize just how close to the brink we had come.

      ReplyDelete
    37. "Hasbro can't legally say they didn't do it."

Nonsense. Per the DMCA, the ONLY party who can lodge a valid complaint is the copyright holder. If Hasbro didn't do it, there is no law int he land that prevents them from saying "We did not issue the takedown". That's simply a matter of fact. Hasbro, as the copyright holder, can allow MLP on YouTube if they feel like it. They don't need to explicitly tell YouTube that, either.

      And that IS legal fact.

Trademark is another matter entirely, but this isn't a trademark issue.

As long as they provided an official avenue to watch the episodes in high quality online, with a minimum of hassle, I really wouldn't mind much at all

      ReplyDelete
    39. @ElectricZoNe
Agreed, the reactions of some bronies was out of line.
I don't want to judge anyone for it, but I think the rage is something that some could work on. Remember, even on the off-chance that this actually was Hasbro's doing, it was likely because it's what it's legalistic suits recommended. Remember what Hasbro as a whole has done for us so far.

      ReplyDelete
    40. I knew trolls were behind this, because Hasbro's money comes from the toys.

Maybe I should download some episodes and put them in my own Youtube channel?

      ReplyDelete
    43. Seth should take a leaf out of The Hitch-hikers Guide to the Galaxy, and have a header with the words "Don't Panic" written in large, friendly letters on the front.

      ReplyDelete
    44. @MrWrann

That would require either work or money, and YouTube is to lazy, and unwilling to part with the money to fix their broken flagging system.

      ReplyDelete
    45. yay~:3 (glad cause im NEVER going to buy from itunes just to watch mlp they cant keep their shit straight)

      ReplyDelete
    46. It's funny that I missed all of this when it happened.

      ReplyDelete
    47. i think we all should just stop talking about the "troll" now, attention is what he likes, he is turrible at "trolling" nonetheless, so lets just stay calm, lay low and keep our hooves on the ground because right now he thinks his "trolling" is actually working.
      thank you for you time.

    48. Damn trolls took down Menlo Marsaille's HD Episodes...

      CURSE YOU!

      ReplyDelete
    49. Menlo hit 2 million views shortly before this happened, I just realized

"Over on the MenloMarseilles channel, the first episode of FiM has hit the impressive milestone of two million"

That's from Nightly Round Up 68.

There's good odds that's part of the reason it became a target, I think.
