Wall Street Journal Reports on Pony!

In their recent "Never Too Old for "Thundercats"? article, a small brony plug snuck in.  It's pretty brief, and in one of their smaller side colum sections, but that's a pretty heavily publicized location for our ponies to invade.  You can find it in the image above.

Maybe we should get get Jayson Thiessen or Daniel Ingram into the Time Magazine top 100?

Thanks to Gamerlord for the image!

What is that image they used for it? Looks more like fanart than an actual vector.

Ponies are taking over the world.

But you knew that already, right?

Angel Heart said...

Those mares could easily take on the other cartoons up there... except the TMNTs might put up a fight. You'know, cause they're ninjas...

Anonymous said...

I know my love for them isn't ironic.

pmcollectorboy said...

The Thundercats remake is, well so far, disappointing. My sister finds it aggravating that I see Friendship is Magic as a vastly superior leap in quality up from the original material than Thundercats 2011 will ever be.

Oh yeah. And nice article.

'Top 100'?

Seth, you added too many zeros. They only belong in the 'Top 1'.

"may or may not be ironic"

The world will never know.

Wall Street Journal you say?

Gentlemen, we are close, politicians, local news, the internet, none compare to showing up in a newspaper sold around the globe. Domination is coming.

Everypony on the planet will have no choice but to love and tolerate one another.

Number two? What's the number one show on the Hub? Secret Bu--I mean Pound Puppies?
(I gotta catch the new ThunderCats sometime...)

Sandman said...

Even though it's just a short paragraph, it's pretty cool that MLP:FiM and its unexpected fanbase have been mentioned in such a highly respected newspaper.

It's a shame they think it may be ironic, but good nonetheless.

First, the Newspapers.
Second, THE WORLD!

"May or may not be ironic"?

Try "is not", silly WSJ! :P

Cutie Mark Crusaders Glue Huffers! Yay! said...

Anyone know what The Hub's number one show is with the little ones?

pmcollectorboy said...

Odds are it's Fraggle Rock.

Anonymous said...

@Cutie Mark Crusaders Glue Huffers! Yay!
I'm guessing that it's Transformers Prime.

Anonymous said...

Ironic? Screw you, WSJ.

That [weird] image of the ponies previously appeared in another article about bronies. It had Celestia in it and looks like an early, goofier take on the ending to episode 2.

FluffyWuffs said...

ironic? more like inevitable.

David Reinold said...

Wow

that was actually rather endearing

since when do major news giants respect us?

That would be from epsiode 2 when Twilight is told she can stay with her friends in Ponyville.

Also If you get this paper, get yourselves a pair of sizzors and cut this article out! (I just did) Reminder, this is from the Friday edition.

How weird is it that I've embraced ponies, but am still skeptical of Thundercats?

David said...

They've also warranted a mention in the National Post in Canada; can't remember if the article has been posted here before:

It's cool that the Wall Street Journal did a quick little report on MLP, and even munitioned Bronies. Short, but it's certainly better than nothing.

Namefag Anon said...

Wall Street Journal? that's pretty fucking huge isn't it?

they could've done a bit more research though..."better" production values? THAT'S IT? JUST "BETTER"?

Anonymous said...

I am still on the fence on Thundercats. I hope they are going the "Adventure" route (Avatar:The Last Airbender) than a "Lesson every episode" (MLP:FIM).

Anonymous said...

My dad saw this article this morning. Snapped it with his Android, sent it to me with the message 'Made me think of you.'

He's seriously the coolest dad a Brony could ask for.

MLP is only number 2 on the Hub??? What could possibly be better than ponies?!?

David Reinold said...

@AnonymousI never would have guessed Family Game Night. If anything I would have guessed Dan Vs.

Display Name said...

@David Reinold

That was my guess too until somepony mentioned Transformers.

Guess FGN makes some sense.

pmcollectorboy said...

@Anonymous

There's no educational content about the new Thundercats. It's anime-esque and it has its moments. But it's kinda pedestrian. It's a pretty cartoon, to say the least, though.

New TMNT? YES!

oh and ponies too, woo hoo.

BrokenForHim said...

By god, yet another terror-inducing Twilight vector.

Bitmun said...

It's starting to grind on me that "Bronies" is always stated as a male term. Why can't they just say "older" rather than "older male?"

Regardless, this is a fairly cool shout out, I must say.

Vanishing said...

I'll admit, my fascination with Ponies started out as ironic, until I watched my first episode...

Wolfe KuPo said...

Now all we need are new Samurai Pizza Cats and He-man

Zoichi20 said...

@Wolfe KuPo Oh please yes! I miss the Samurai Pizza Cats. Also, I want to see that new TMNT series.

Anonymous said...

Can someone actually explain this "may or may not be ironic" part? What is the difference? I thought loving a show was just loving a show

crazyredemu said...

A new Samurai Pizza Cats? We don't need a new one, the old one is awesome enough! oh this it @Wolfe KuPo.
I can't wait to see the new TMNT, Im a huge fan of them.

TheVioletLolita said...

Now, now, people need to remember that being called "Ironic" is a thousand times better then being called "man children." I think most of you remember that news report.

Anyway, I think this little mention is better then nothing but I agree with Bitmun, I don't think they should be saying bronies are the "older male" audience when we have girls who love the show as well.

and finally, WHY is everybody hating on the new Thundercats? The pilot was boss, and the episodes were also quite good(but not as boss) -_- * disgruntled fan rage*

Anonymous said...

@Anonymous
people who haven't seen the show for themselves assume the only reason older people would say they like it is if they were pretending, to seem cool. y'know, like people with elmo shirts and shit

Anonymous said...

Now all we need is Sonic, Mario, Zelda, and Megaman Cartoon Reboots.
lol

Anonymous said...

Children watch this show?

Uh Oh.

pmcollectorboy said...

Zelda. Yes. Because the 80s cartoon sucked, and Zelda has so much potential. Mario and Sonic? Meh. No. Megaman? Give me Megaman X and now we're talking.

Anonymous said...

may or may not be ironic? What is that supposed to mean?

Flutterfan said...

I think by ironic they mean like when people watch a bad movie just to make fun of it. Like Troll 2.

It's a good point they make about remakes because I'm generally against all reboots/remakes and I'd have rolled my eyes if you told me they were rebooting MLP two months ago.

But look what came of it: the best cartoon in the last 20 years!!

Anonymous said...

I tried to warn my friends about it, but they didn't listen

Anonymous said...

@Bitmun

I know...is strating me to piss off...there's plenty of adult female fans as well...

Yes. Our plans of world domination is coming along... nicely as I might say.

Lets grow more, and spread the Pony's everywhere to everyone!

Sethisto for Time Magazine Top 100.

Luna said...

@Anonymous
We had Sonic and Megaman reboots: Sonic X and Megaman.exe.
Neighther of which was particularly memorable. Megaman's characters weren't bad, it's just the plot, execution and how the latest games play.

I was actually anxious for the Voltron and Thundercats reboots. Then I saw Cheetara and Snarff. Then there were all the trailers for Voltron.

TMNT's last reboot was good, although felt short-lived and abruptly ended.

Anonymous said...

Get Lauren Faust on the time top 100!

Anonymous said...

We're starting to be covered by bigger media outlets, this is getting intense.

Bobbyzero said...

I say if the quality of these recent 80's remakes continue, then bring'em on. Just watched the newest Thundercats ep, seriously continues to impress me. No need to be on the fence guys, this show genuinely good.

Altherix said...

Being in the older demographic I can give my take on those four shows.

ThunderCats: Missed the point, it's OK but not something I'd tune into on a regular basis.

Voltron Force: I was never a big fan so there's really nothing a reboot is going to bring me back to watch.

TMNT: Ugh, so much pain as the franchise was ridden into the ground and not just the movies. Can't get past the pain to even watch a reboot of it.

MLP:FIM: Considering it was the biggest improvement from what is was when I was a kid, why I tune into it and I am a "Brony"

the little pony said...

WHAT? second???? and.... not all bronies are men....

PONIES TAKE THE WORLDç-the little pony(jelly)

Anonymous said...

@the little pony Don't take it too seriously. The WSJ hasn't been a serious newspaper for some time.

Anonymous said...

Fuck no you are never too old for Thundercats.

Never too old for ponies too, of course, but I will never outgrow the Thundercats.

Hooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Anonymous said...

>>Voltron Force
Unlikely.
>>New TMNT
Maybe.
>>Thundercats
YES.
>>MLP:FiM
YES.

Anonymous said...

well it's true that not all people of the older generation that enjoy MLP are men, i figured brony was the male gender term and pega-sis being the consensus for the female term, though i am sort of new to bronyism so i may be wrong.

@Anonymous It's a promotional picture from pre-production. A JPEG of it with a background has been floating around the imageboards for a while, but I dunno if there's a copy I can link to.

@David Reinold When have they disrespected us? The closest we've ever gotten to nationwide ridicule was NPR's thing... maybe the Wired article depending on if you think the guy they interviewed made an ass of himself.

@Soapy5 Isn't They Might Be Hipsters a rock band with giants in it?
