I read this before it popped up here, really liked it, this is one of the few other ways i quite like Dr. Whooves to be done. not to mention the Tom Baker scarf reference, i loved that.
poor Mr.Tock. He gets mistaken for a celebrity who fights aliens all over the multiverse. Nopony believes who he really is.
I'm guessing the Doctor had to put his Timelord conciousness into the fog watch again and become a regular human ... pony.

It's a silly question, but do you mind if I induct the concept and character of Sepia Tock into my fanonverse?
I've already got alternate interpretations of Ditzy Doo, Lyra and Colgate, defying the popular opinion of those characters, and I'd like to have Dr. Whoof but w/o Dr. Whoof in my fic.
From just these two great chapters, I've become enamored with Sepia Tock, and would like to include him.

You genius. Create a story using Doctor Whoof, but do the exact opposite of what the entire community has done and create a realistic background Pony that the creators would probably jump at the chance to use. People have to read it because of its outright uniqueness and its allure of "different", and a new character is born!

Confession time: I haven't read a single Doctor Whoof fic.
This, however, I found highly entertaining. It's well written and the references to fanon are strictly tongue-in-cheek. I approve and eagerly await more.
There has to be something later on in the story. To give him his Timelord memories back. Because some of the ponies know who he really is. Applebloom, The Mayor, and Derpy.

I love how people can't wrap their heads around a fic that doesn't portray this one pony as Dr. Whooves.
Of course this means if you end up turning this into a Dr. Whooves story, I'm now going to look like the only idiot who didn't see it coming.

It would be a lot easier to accept this as a not-the-Doctor story if CanvasWolfDoll didn't keep hitting us over the head with it. As it is, it feels like he's up to something.
That said, I really enjoyed the story, and I loved the business with Luna and her crazy puppets at the end of part 2. The issue of who you think you are versus who everyone else sees you as is an interesting one, and if that's the basis of his friendship with Luna -- and the reason for all the Doctor business -- then cool.
One small nitpick: many of the descriptions use the passive voice, such as Colgate's actions; "answered by Colgate" and so forth. It would be better to say "Colgate answered the bell."
You know, there was that whole Dr. Who arc where the doctor stopped being a timelord... with a watch.
Also, I don't understand why Doctor Whoof is the one fan pony that some people seem determined on replacing. It's seems quite silly to me.
Not to be whatever saying "I thought something before anyone" would be called in one word; but I never completely thought of Dr. Whooves as that exact same colt. (If you don't want to read a long argument justifying this, stop reading now.)
What I mean is, while the doctor DOES take the form of whatever he is taking the form of, he doesn't take the entire body along for it. He regenerates and usually uses whoever is nearby as a kind of biologocal blueprint. So while Sepia Tock is manning his clock shop, Doctor Whooves is out doing whatever the heck Doctor Whooves is doing(so many things he could be doing). Also, because the Doctor can never come across himself, he logically can't come across Sepia Tock if he is essentially using a copy of Sepia Tock's body. *exhales* Phew.

The idea is awesome, but I have to admit that most of my amusement while I was reading stemmed from the fact of him NOT being Doctor Whoof, and how utterly peaceful (or boring) his days are in comparison. If you actually intended him to replace the Whoof character I don't think it has a chance because there isn't much to hold one's interest about the character. If you intended him as a total contrast to Whoof, though, then he is perfect.
Supposing that you don't already have a plan for where you'll go with the character (like the mentioned "Human Nature" route), I think he has the best chance to work if you keep the existence of the FICTIONAL Whoof as a permanent part of his character. Will he grow accustomed to the role that is expected of him? Learn to live up to it? Fight against it? That's a story I'd like to see.
Liked the Brigadier reference in this one. Also makes me wonder just why they keep calling him 'Doctor'..
After reading the third chapter, I can only say 2 things.
1: This is a really good story.
2: Sepia has a unicorn fetish.
"So, my concept is this: we find a popular character from fanon, but portray him as aware and loatheful of his reputation," a brown pegasus pitched to his peers.
"That's a horrible idea. Go bother somepony else," an earth pony, clearly the leader of the troupe, told the writer.
Sepia is going to be in the play. Also I can see that the writer put that a little something in this new chapter. HIMSELF.
This story is fantastic! I love the idea of completely changing the identity of a fanon character while at the same time incorporating the popular fanon into the story through the town's rumors and speculation. The characterization is excellent and there were some brilliant moments of comedy throughout (the "regurgitation" line in the first chapter made me openly laugh out loud, as well as the self-reference to fanon characters in chapter three).
So does this mean we need a story where Lyra gets fed up with everypony thinking she's married to Bon-Bon and does weird unponylike things, and Ditzy wondering why everything thinks she has a muffin fetish and a daughter?
Either it's a clever red-herring... or that watch he just sold away had a certain definitive importance and will soon cause problems.
I'm guessing the former, but it's hard to tell sometimes with this fic.

If you read the first part closely, that's already this fic, with Derpy liking muffins but not sure why people are always giving them to her, and Lyra complaining that sitting oddly one time left her with a reputation for sitting like that.

Given that little bit at then end there... I'd say this is either going the Fob Watch route or the Real Doctor Whoof, who will just so happen to be a dead ringer for Sepia Tock, is about to show up. :D

It gives us stuff that the Dr. Whoof was a play and the fact that this Sepia tries to pass himself off as "Not being the Doctor"

For some reason, Sepia and Colgate's relationship gives me vibes of Phoenix and Maya's relationship from Ace Attorney...

@Cony the PonyA= Summer doesn't end until late September. From a business stand point, Labor Day (the first Monday of September) is the unofficial end of Summer. August is firmly planted in the Summer season.
That ending... chapter 4, you little tease you! I like where this is going. A LOT. But I hope it doesn't leads to a "real" Dr. Whooves appearance. I would love if Sepia, through circumstance and personal interests, somehow steps up and has an adventure, earning his Dr. Whooves praise...

I love this, it's well written, main character has an excellent personality, it uses a plethora of background ponies facing their stereotypes, its just excellent.
The humor is great while not being ridiculous. I also like the monk reference (Every chapter named Mr. Tock and (whatever happens in this chapter))

I love how this story is developing. Gotta love the someone who gets pushed into being a hero even if they don't want it. The characters are well developed, and extremely entertaining, especially Colgate. This are so many things that this story just does right.
Also, this latest chapter (part 5) completely explains the duplicates of background ponies in all of the crowd scenes throughout the show. Love it!

I still believe they are two separate ponies. I think that somepony who is an enemy of the Doctor has mistaken Tock for the Doctor. Also, if the Doctor were to try to help Sepia, something paradox-y will happen, so he can't do anything just yet.

I really hope Sepia Tock isn't Doctor Whooves. I like Sepia Tock. If another pony is the Doctor, I would be okay with this. I just want Sepia Tock to be Sepia Tock, Ponyville's clock maker. Also I love the explanation for the duplicate ponies in chapter five, golden.
Sigh, I hope its not just another fogwatch story, because I was really enjoying sepia, if he is the doctor it kinda defeats the original intentions I saw.

I actually got into the fandom after hearing about Doctor Whoof, so the character has a special place in my heart, and I thoroughly enjoyed watching Sepia Tock on his adventures. hey, same here! it's because doctor whoof was created by fans that initially interested me, and why i eventually got disappointed that he existed solely as a cross-fandom in-joke.
I really enjoyed it!! I'm sad it's over, but you wrapped it up really well and it had a satisfying ending. Thanks for the excellent story.
It is a very enjoyable story. I agree with the sentiment that the Doctor doesn't really fit in the show-verse, and while I originally thought this would be a completely different interpretation of the character (i.e. a Doctor-less story), Sepia having to constantly face that idea was hilariously entertaining.
I really liked how you used the time bubbles to explain all of the background ponies, and I especially enjoyed Sepia's becoming the originator and propagator of his own myth, in particular that his galloping through all of the bubbles became his being on different adventures.
The juxtaposition of his mundane personality and life with what is expected of him, and the role he ultimately fulfills is a blast.

This is such a good story that I WILL animate it into an official looking (fan made) episode. Maybe even make it a two parter.
That being said, I will not likely have the skill to do so until I get father into my animation degree. (it may take a while. Like 4-8 years. But I never go back on my word and I will do it. (unless somepony else does it first and does a good job.))
Side note, do you get paid for all that writing ability? You should. Maybe we can get you onto the official FiM team so you can start writing episodes...

That deserves to be made into a movie. Doesn't have to be ponies; humanized (have David Tennant or a look-alike play Sepia), set it renaissance Europe... maybe Nordic... Really. It was great and needs to be seen.

i don't know. that'd require a bit of set up for the 'doctor whoof' stand-in myth, which isn't something i'm sure i could do well enough.
the reason i did as well as i did was the preexistence of doctor whoof within the community, and my knowledge of both source material. take both of those away, and i'd wouldn't be able to make nearly half the jokes i did, let alone properly do the ragnarok arc.
at best, they only place this can go is further brony projects. hopefully, the two i currently i know of will manage to happen.
I absolutely love this story... you never know whether Sepia Tock really is the Doctor or not, especially when they start dropping references to the Dr. Who episode "Human Nature". It's a magnificent piece of storytelling.

Awesome to see this story didn't just up and die. Sepia is a great character, and a good example of how going against what's already set up in the fandom can be done right.
I actually really quite liked that chapter. Colgate becoming the new "Dr." was something I didn't expect, and it was great. I'm almost a little disappointed that it looks like there won't be much more of it, but it's best to keep the story moving, and chapters of just Colgate running a clock store while being mistaken for the Dr. would get old fast.
