Ooh, sounds interesting. I just hope people with crappy internet will be able to handle it.

colt classic said...

what's wrong with blogger?

Fall said...

Will it end the plague of Anonymous firsters?

Sethisto said...

@colt classic

Blogger comments have limits.

CHANGE!? TO MY EQUESTRIA DAILY!?

Good. If it works that is.

Zarkanorf said...

You should also prohibit anonymous commentors. :P

Does this mean I have to make another account t.t

I don't think allowing images to be posted will be a good idea. Unless their simple emoticons or something.

I mean, um,

This is an AMAZING VANISHING POST. *poof*

I hate Disqus. It's nagging me everywhere.

colt classic said...

@Sethisto i guess so (about blogger, not trixie.)

Octavia said...

Hmm... really don't know if want.

But we shall see what the level of want is!

This Trixie is now my Phone Background...

Anonymous said...

I really hope it will still have anonymous posting. Will it?

Jon said...

It will be a lot easier to reply to people and keep discussions going, for better or for worse. It will also allow the cream of the comments to rise to the top. I'm glad this is happening.

awmg.

Images, in MY Equestria Daily?

what is this.

Bongo said...

> Images

I got a BAAAAAAAAAAD feeling about this...

Anonymous said...

I hope this means you can make an automated system that automatically posts 'First!' on every post

Anonymous said...

>deletion votes
>voting
>like button

fuck off

Anonymous said...

I thought this was a blog and not everything bad from 4chan and Facebook combined.

Anonymous said...

I also hope there will be anonymous comments still. I know I won't register just to post here, and I'm sure other people feel the same way.

Images could be good, but I can see lots of problems with those. How will you control what gets posted? If you have anonymous posting, some real bad images could come up. I have a feeling you will rely on deletion votes, but what if they go back and post the images on older posts that people don't check very often? Maybe a time period before comments are automatically closed would solve that.

As for the like button, ugh. Stupid social media spam crap. That's all I have to say on that.

Also, thanks for the heads up for noscript users. Although, I'll probably still only view the site with scripts disabled because EqD is incredibly slow with scripts running compared to no scripts.

greenie-pie said...

Looking forward to it. It might control when comments take a turn for the worst (see last brony meetup for an example).

New is good, as long as its better. I'll try anything once :)

Acriaos said...

Actually I kinda prefer Blogger comments over Disqus, those nested comments in Disqus are confusing and I'm not sure how to feel about the possibility to add pictures...

Basharoonskis said...

Awesome, always nice to see you expand the site in new ways Seth. I hope this brings a limit to the amount of comments on screen at once, but also makes it easier to scroll through them because the 200 comment per page limit is kind of ridiculous. Plus, first comments will hopefully be no more.

Not sure what to think of the images thing, my initial reaction is that it's going to be very 4chan-esque, as in a ton of "UMAD? TROLOLOLOL" images. Of course I could be completely wrong.

Ah well, we'll see right?

chinlamp said...

Lol, this post has more comments than the post we're supposed to be commenting on.

Oh the irony!

Anonymous said...

I doubt I'll comment anymore if I have to register. I don't post as anonymous to be a dick, I just prefer posting without a name.

Not sure if the images are a good idea. Hopefully it won't turn the comments into endless reaction images. Being able to delete comments would be handy, though.

Anonymous said...

I prefer the current system.

So, testing?

Anonymous said...

I don't know if there is a mobile friendly disqus or not, but it took my poor little iPod over a minute to load the test page, and it was because of disqus.

Ace2401 said...

Yeah, I'm not liking the fact that I can't use the account I've been using to post so far.

Anonymous said...

Okay, for a possible bug or just collateral damage, I'm seeing some duplicated comments in posts below.

mr-mushy said...

I don't like it. Slower to load.

Fallin' Winter said...

I'm on the fence about this one. There's only one thing that I feel that we really need and that's deleting posts. Honestly though, even then we can still remove our own ones, although that's not as useful. The rest of the things don't seem necessary to me.

I don't need to know that fifty people like my comment and the guy next to me has negative five hundred. It also kind of throws "love and tolerance" out the window when we start giving each other ways to put others down.

Images. As much as they may be interesting, I don't see why we would need to reply with images vs links. Also, this does bring up the possibility of spamming of images or posting ones that are overly explicit. Even though I think this community is nicer than many communities out there, some will still feel the need to do these things, like firsting for example.

I don't know what voting involves so I'll leave that topic untouched.

Acriaos said...

Just put a poll on the site and let the community vote about Blogger or Disqus. Both have advantages and disadvantages and there isn't really a "better" option, just go with what's more popular for the users here.

Atiarotias said...
This comment has been removed by the author.
Anonymous said...

Maybe push the comment box to the top so I don't have scroll to the bottom just to comment on a post?

Raven said...

Yeah...no. Can't delete a post I make (only edit which is cool, but still, kinda like the delete option too), not to mention it uses your last name if ya use Google email account, kinda gives me the shivers cause its the internet...

Basharoonskis said...

After voracious testing, I have come to the conclusion the I prefer Disqus over blogger comments. I give it a yay~

Atiarotias said...

I'm not sure if the Deleting works... testin

Octavia said...

I dunno, I gave it some testing and looked it over. But I'd have to make yet another account to use it the way I do here with Blogger. So I'm going to say I still prefer Blogger. But the added features are nice.

Ihaveanamebecause? said...

@Acriaos

This this this.

Best idea I've heard, and I really don't care which one is used as long as most ponies are happy...

Arcane Scroll said...

You can log in with your Blogger/Google account. My problem is it's clunky (not as much as the current buggy comment system though) and I can't seem to reply to posts at all.

On the plus side I can actually submit a comment without having to hit Post Comment a dozen times.

Arcane Scroll said...

Here's a good test. Can it handle the comment thread from the Fallout: Equestria post?

BTW, my posts on the chat test keep disappearing.

PH Brony said...

@Octavia
Same reason why I like Blogger sometimes but since I just made an account... So yeah I give this a +1.

Ace2401 said...

@Octavia

I echo this sentiment.

Anonymous said...

The new comments don't show up at all on the PSP. Granted, the PSP browser is outdated and slow, but at least the old commenting system worked on it.

Octavia said...

I think she should also indeed make a poll for the two. That way it'll be real easy to simply tell what the majority of users prefer. I also prefer the look and feel of the layout of Blogger more. Though the lack of features like editing and such is a major drawback. So yeah, like some have said, its a tough call since both have negative and positive qualities about them.

Octavia said...

*I think you should also indeed make a poll for the two.

There's that lack of an editing feature being a nuisance again. lol

Fallin' Winter said...

After having now tested the Disqus post, I think it'll work okay as long as that is the extent of it. This way there's no spamming images, but we still get a fairly easy to use comment system. Even the account making was easy which could almost completely be done in the comments as well. Right now, I think I'm okay with either one.

Arcane Scroll said...

Oh yeah, it's even slower when browsing on a phone then the current system. It's 100% JS, not a good thing under heavy load.

BlasTech said...

I dont like that you need to give a valid email to post a comment. I like being able to do so as an anon or using just a Nickname handle.

What does it do with your email anyway? Put it on display?

Arcane Scroll said...

@BlasTech
They sell it, Disqus is a data mining company. But, hell, so is Google so no change there LOL

pyritie said...

"deletion votes"

uh oh, if this means what I think it means, then this place is gonna get super hugboxy

Arcane Scroll said...

Yep, it is loosing posts, mostly responses. I have at least five responses that are no longer there.

Jelfes said...

I prefer the current commenting system over the Disqus one, but something really needs to be done about the anon's and their incessant posting of, "first," because, guess what?

Anonymous said...

Hmm, it doesn't seem to large numbers of replies very well. Look at Sethisto's comment to see what I mean.

Arcane Scroll said...

Why not just code up your own comments system, they aren't hard to write. OR, are you not able to integrate custom ones into Blogger?

Fly Amanita said...

I don't think the "first" comments are that big a deal; people become sane again pretty quickly after the first few comments, so I don't mind at least. Looking over the responses here, it looks like lots of people are fine with both options, but Blogger is more convenient for a number of people due to speed/accessibility issues, so I'd rather continue using it.

Anonymous said...

@Fly Amanita

I concur. That, and the ability to post anonymously {rather than jump through registration and hoops} is something I consider to be a pretty significant convenience.

-Quinch

SIaanme said...

Well, Disqus seems to be fully functional, except for the picture aspect, but to be honest that's probably for the best. But as the anons have said, we lose the anonymous options, which is a bad thing all in all I think.

Anonymous said...

Registering for some random BS just to post comments is not something I need. At all.

Disallowing anon comments will keep me from commenting. (and no I've never made a "first" post, I find them dumb too)

Anonymous said...

Nate here, testing for science. And lemons. Uhhh, there's... No asbestos involved is there? Cuz the last place I was at that was testing stuff...

markocezar said...

PUT. IT UP! IT'S. AWESOME!

Anonymous said...

@Octavia

Frankly I don't think editing is a plus at all, how many conversations have you seen where half the comments are *snip* because the guy decided he looked dumb? It adds a non-permanence aspect to the comments which I really don't think should be there. The convo happened and is in the archive, no editing yourself to look better, done is done.

Arcane Scroll said...

@Anonymous
I don't mind an edit feature if it's done responsibly. For example, Inkbunny only gives you 10 minutes to edit your post. This gives you a chance to fix any typos and such.

Ace2401 said...

Seth decided to stick with blogger everypony.

Anonymous said...

@Ace2401

Hooray!

Anonymous said...

Good decision sticking with blogger.

Anonymous said...

Not sure about this...
removing anon comments will alienate many posters but it won't stop parasprites.
Also I don't think posting images is necessary, like-button is a crime against humanity and It feels a bit slow.
Maybe it's just me but I like current system better.

Anonymous said...

Oh..I liked the new one :(

Octavia said...

@Anonymous

Well, I guess we're just divided on that then. lol Because I love the option to be able to edit my comment if I misspelled things. Which I often do because I'm doing so much at once. When it comes to others who do it simply to try and escape looking dumb or such, well, that does suck. But that's at their discretion. I mostly just care about editing my own comments.

Wierdplatformer said...

As long as the reply button is there, I'm happy.

Ditzy Derp said...

Well this is for the best really, but I like our current system as is.

Anonymous said...

I'm glad we are sticking with Blogger for now at least. I've used DisQus on the CNN Money section and it is a horrendous mess! Now it might be that CNN has no idea how to run a decent comment section, but I found the DisQus system they used to be slow and have the tendency to eat replies.

Anonymous said...

Not sure how I feel about this. I like that I can participate here without having to make an account, but I'm not sure that images are really necessary or even a very good idea here. I agree with the previous who said its better to keep this a blogger site, not the worst of youtube and 4chan.

Anonymous said...

The Cátsy does not want to create an account, the current ease of use is fine as is. I don't see a reason why one needs to 'vote' like or dislike on other peoples comments that's just a pompous way of doing things like "Ha my opinion matters more then yours because I got 67 votes and you got negative 5!" so would say the person who's only comment was "FIRST!" and considers that an opinion some how *shrugs* owell.

I like that EqD is open to the masses and not some close niche of people that try to make it there own like so many sad sad sad individuals that can't deal with the fact others like the same thing but choose to express it differently in their own way, ie anonymous posting is just a valid and sincere way of posting as any registered user, I mean so what if I don't have an avatar and a name to go with it that's just a lame way of seeing things especially to the ones who say all anons shouldn't be allowed to post if a new system is implemented! THOSE THAT SAY THAT ARE FAKERS WHO DON'T BELIEVE OR CARE ABOUT LOVE AND TOLERANCE! BOOM! eat that registered user >3

And I agree with other posters, how bout click-able links in comments rather then spamming posts with pictures and possibly not so nice things that can even be unpony related.

I for one btw love the way comments are for Fanfics as the first posts don't usually have spoilers, and lets everyone come in see how discussions are going like rather then be looking at random off-top discussions or things too spoiler like.

P.S. I know I am late but I couldn't believe I missed out on this testing >< dang time zone differences! Please show love to anons too Seth, kthx love you all! <3

Anonymous said...

No anonymous comments would mean no more calling Seth a furry or ccsd9. Clever. Why address the issue when you can censor it. :)

Nyerguds said...

Hmm, this sure is easier. It would be handier to show more recent comments on top though.

pixelkitties said...

I missed the test, but reading through the previous comments, I'm pretty certain I don't like the ideas of posting pics or upvoting comments. That sounds like it's going to get out of control pretty quick. My suspicion is that eventually comments will be less about the topic at hand and more about people trolling for likes and attention.

I don't really mind getting rid of the anon option, though.

Anonymous said...

Can we have numbered Anons?

whats diffrent

That is a cool picture. I like how the artist mixed a transmutation circle with Sindarin text. I just wonder if it actually translates to something or if it's just a random bunch of tengwar.
