• Extended Main Theme Coming with Soundtrack?

This is an interesting response from Daniel Ingram's facebook page.  Apparently Hasbro wants to include the full main theme (Found in the voicebox of the singing Twilight Sparkle toy) in the official soundtrack.

The idea that there even is an official soundtrack on the horizon is neat.

Thanks to Lt_Unrealistic for the heads up!  Braving that wall must be an experience to say the least after last night!

    4. That's pretty cool, I hope we get to see other variations to songs like Fluttershy's lullaby completely sung by Fluttershy, and another by Sweetie bell as well as a good version of the CMC's song in the tallent show..

But yeah, for now I'm just satisfied that we're even getting a sound track... As fluttershy would say:

      Woohoo

    18. An official soundtrack? I'm already going broke 'cause I have to buy the episodes on iTunes (don't have the HUB channel, don't like Youtube quality), and now I got to buy a soundtrack. I'm not going to have much money left, but I don't care! I'll have ponies! Those are better than money anyway!

      ReplyDelete
    19. An OST? Yes... yes, I would like that very much. I'd pay for the extended opening alone really. What other goodies might we find on there?

    21. Well, Danny didn't say there for sure was a soundtrack coming out. :P Just that Hasbro would probably wait until such a thing to release the full theme song, along with other songs, if they did. Though it's likely one will be released eventually.

    24. Offical soundtrack? Dear god, YES. My own lossy files are adequate, but bring on a true CD!

      ReplyDelete
    25. I don't really see this as any sort of confirmation. He's just saying that he suspects Hasbro wouldn't want it out there before then, not that it's going to happen.

      ReplyDelete
    26. @Octavia
That's exactly how I'm reading it too.

One would hope that Hasbro will release an official soundtrack though. They've already done the lion's share of the work; I would think they are leaving a LOT of money on the table to not go the last little distance and get 10-15 tracks on a CD. (Yes, having 30+ on multiple CDs would be even better, but then we start getting into risk/reward stuff. Will the number of people who will buy a more costly soundtrack be enough to make up for those who might pay 12-15$ for one CD but not 25$+ for a set? I'd rather have a guaranteed smaller soundtrack available to buy then hope that the dream project makes its way through the corporate approval process.)

    29. Five Daniel Ingram related posts here and a massive Facebook mob in the past 12 hours for a 30s song and not-quite-but-almost soundtrack confirmation?

Dude's sitting on a PR gold mine and as long he keeps providing content, I say he should exploit the living hell out of us. :D

      @TheguywithZeldasprites

You don't like the YouTube quality? What is not to like about 1080p? I find it ridiculous to dish out $50 for something that you can get in 1080p on YouTube.

      ReplyDelete
    31. @showmetheblueprints
I also don't see the point in buying the episodes when you can just as easily obtain them elsewhere in 1080p. If you would feel so inclined in buying the episodes, I'd suggest waiting for a proper DVD/Bluray release to come.

    36. Oh snap I thought they said they where not going to do a Official Sound track, this is great news.

      ReplyDelete
    37. the fact they are even considering an official soundtrack shows Hasbro is willing to dole out merch for the adult demographic, yay

      ReplyDelete
    38. They said they would if they could and had some licencing issues to sort out. Looks like that was done. This has made a shitty day seem alright.

    42. I doubt we'll see a CD release (thought that would be awesome).

I predict a release on itunes and hopfully amazon's digital service (for those of us that dislike itunes)

      ReplyDelete
    43. @ElSparko

There's really no incentive for me to pay money for a digital album release, unless it contains significant new content (and even then, I'd only buy those individual tracks). The music files already floating around have been taken either from the 128kbps AAC audio in Hubworld episodes, or downmixed from the 384kpbs AC3 audio in the iTunes episodes.

Since we've already got more than enough lossy files, it's really a CD or nothing as far as I'm concerned.

      ReplyDelete
    44. I do hope that Hasbro green lights an OST.

      ReplyDelete
    45. Even though I have all the songs I'll buy them again just to support the show. But they better be mp3's, not CD and sure as hell not CD's embedded in some Pink Celestia doll.

      ReplyDelete
    46. Official soundtrack....?
iTunes. NAOW! ALL MY MONEY! My iPhone needs to be ponified even more!

      ReplyDelete
    47. They'd probably wait for my songs to be available. There wasn't all that many full songs in season 1, so I think if a soundtrack was to be released, it'll be once season 2 is out.

      ReplyDelete
    48. I take these news with a grain of salt, not just for the idea IF the soundtrack is to be green-lighted, but also because of the content.

More often than not, it may end up being cover versions or "image songs" of characters like all "western" pop culture CDs are, not unlike anime and japanese anime music cds which features not just image songs but background music.

And let's face it, Daniel Ingram did well on the lyrical pieces but William Anderson deserves a ton of credit for his background music, especially the music during Twilight's speech in Applebuck Season (with the different motifs for the speakers), the "Cutie Mark Crusaders go Crusading/Pinkie Pie Party" piece and of course the (in)famous creepy circus music for Pinkie's Sanity Slippage.

An OST without taking credit for "Misteeer Annnndersonnnn" is incomplete.

      ReplyDelete
    49. @Flutterfan

MP3s would be no better than the files you already have. Why bother paying for them when you can just extract them from the show?

No, CD is the way to go on this. A digital release is fine too, of course, but a digital-only release would be a huge mistake on Hasbro's part. Collectors care about quality more than convenience, and CDs are much higher quality than outdated MP3s (if you're going to go digital these days, AAC at the very least is the way to go).

      ReplyDelete
    50. Hope there's at least a CD-R/vinyl manufactured on demand. I looove liner notes!

Fun fact: it took Phineas & Ferb two years to get a soundtrack.

      ReplyDelete
    51. All versions with no "store exclusive" crap please.

      ReplyDelete
    52. @Anonymous
      I'd buy remastered MP3s.

      ReplyDelete
    53. @Anonymous

And still vastly inferior to a CD. I'm not arguing against a digital release to iTunes and Amazon, but not everyone likes being limited to lossy digital files, when they're really only appropriate for portable devices and low-end sound equipment.

There's also the fact that iTunes and Amazon and other online music stores aren't international, and it often takes forever for certain albums to be released to their equivalent sites for other countries (and sometimes this never happens at all, for certain countries).

By saying "it better not be on a CD", you're basically arguing for a release that will only be available to Americans, and also something that won't satsify true collectors or audiophiles.

      ReplyDelete
    54. Nothing too unusual to have an "extended" cut of a theme song on the soundtrack. Anybody remember the Pokemon 2 BA Master soundtrack with the extended cut? Good times. ;) Didn't sound like Daniel was too fond of the lyrics in the extended version in that post about the Twilight Sparkle plush.

To all of those people complaining about the CD vs. digital quality and the YouTube vs. iTunes downloads, I agree that getting the superior quality is a better deal always. When push comes to shove however, I'm not sure all bronies will be willing to put out the cash for the goods even when CD's and Blu-Ray's are released. All of this free advertising they get from word of mouth is worthless if we aren't buying what Hasbro sells.

      ReplyDelete
    55. As for myself, I'll be 2 copies of the soundtrack on CD when (and/or if) it's released; and 2 Blu-Rays, too. I'm more than happy to reward Hasbro for making good decisions and providing us with the best possible quality in both the audio and video realms.

A CD release with accompanying digital album releases on the major online stores (both US and International) will be ideal, and I hope Hasbro recognizes this.

As for video, both Blu-Ray and DVD. My own preference is for Blu-Ray, but of course there are still many people who prefer not paying the extra money and would rather DVDs. But Blu-Rays are essential; the show is produced and broadcast in 1080p and there are a good number of fans who want it on that format in the best quality possible.

Youtube 1080p, to be perfectly honest, is laughably low-bitrate video and doesn't feature 5.1 audio. It's like night and day, compared to Blu-Ray.

      ReplyDelete
    56. A soundtrack?? YAY!!!

But when oh WHEN is the DVD coming out?????

      ReplyDelete
    57. @showmetheblueprints
(late reply, busy earlier) 1080p, correct me if I'm wrong, takes a few days to be uploaded to Youtube. My brother plays an online game, and loading 1080p would probably make him lag too much. Not to mention, I don't have a Blu-ray, only my parents do, in their room. I don't want them to know that I'm a fan of ponies, because my mom would let it slip at the most inopportune time, and my dad makes fun of me for liking Kirby's Epic Yarn. (note, I'm just a teen, soon to be in high school. My mom would let that slip when I'm around other, non-accepting people.)

While I have a DVD player, I am right next to a place where they could easily hear me. If I watch it at night, there is always the possibility that they get up in the middle of the night, see lights under my door or hear the show.

I could put it in my computer and watch it there, yes, but I'd have to use earphones. As such, I'd be taken of guard and surprised if they walked in (they're not fond of knocking), and have no time to alt-tab, which has saved me a few times.

I believe in the phrase "Any possibility, no matter how small", so I'm covering all possible routes. If I put it on my Ipod, I could watch them there and easily hide them.

Loading a video on an ipod on Youtube takes forever (at least on mine). Itunes would let me watch around the airing date, so Fridays would be like that "Ha ha! Time for Ponies" image macro.

Also, I could take them wherever I want. Road trips, grandma's house, wherever. I could just switch on over to a game or another show. This is probably getting boring by now, sorry if I sounded angry or something. I'm just incredibly paranoid.

Gah, I forgot the most important part! I can't wait too long for a DVD. I'm impatient.

    59. The soundtrack's included with a 1080p Blu-Ray dvd Box set that has over 5 hours of bonus features including commentary by Lauren Faust, Daniel Ingram, along with the cast and crew and deleted scenes.

I can dream, though, right? :C
