Our animator bro over on Youtube has released another Evolution of a Scene video. As always, it makes me really appreciate how much work goes into every single aspect of this show. It's crazy how many little details need to be worked out.
Before the split screen, I caught that RD didn't put a hoof on Pinkie's shoulder in the final cut and that they didn't laugh at the end in the final cut. Also noticed added sound effects for when Pinkie was bouncing around in the final version.
However, during the split screen, I noticed I missed the change in the lightning's style and intensity between the two version.
I probably missed something else, but that's all I've found so far.
Wow, that was something. I spotted a few differences. Mostly the pacing of the hiccups and the storm cloud...and the eerie glance through the fourth wall while pinkie chuckled at the end.
Lots of neat small changes, eye blinks, intensity of certain actions, the removal of the laughing at the end seemed reasonable, and a few other changes like when Rainbow grabs Pinkie by the shoulder.
Lots of detail and work in this, probably the best of these behind the scenes so far.
The missing/changed sound effects is normal though - in animation production they usually have a temporary or "scratch" track with rough sound effects, substitute voices (if some vocal performances haven't been recorded yet) and no (or temporary) music during development. The final sound mix is usually completed later than animation.
Sometimes scratch tracks can give rise to entertaining "throw it in" moments too, such as Futurama's famous Hypnotoad sound effect, which was only intended as a temporary sound but they decided it was so incongruous and funny they left it in.
Well i can see some of the differences, but i'm curious as to why they were changed... I can understand why the darkening during the lightning strike was taken out... if lightning struck, the whole sky doesnt magically get darker... and the hoof around the shoulder looked a bit off, but as for a few other things, i'm curious as to the change... pobably mostly timing issues...
In addition to all the details pointed out above, the timing is much cleaner overall in the final cut. Those guys really know how to sharpen up a scene!
As an aside, I love the little snorts Pinkie Pie does in addition to her laughter and hiccups!
I really like watching these things. It's fun to see what does and doesn't make the cut for any show. And as someone who wants to professionally create characters someday (and may have to animate them!) it's helpful to see these.
Also, rainbows dive down off the cloud is cut shorter in the final. I think its neat how they change little things, to make the whole scene better.
Getting rid of the stretchy arm was good. Too bad they left spikes ULTRA stretchy arm in Party of One. That part where he turns the lights back on with is 5 foot arm is weird.
Things I noticed: The lightning isn't yellow in the final cut no awkward foreleg (Why do you ponies keep saying "arm"?) Dashie takes much less time to get off of her cloud in the final Pinkie flies diagonally in the final no laugh-fade-to-black in the final.
I'm surprised no one caught that rainbow dash is further away from pinkie pie to keep pinkie's hair from crossing over dash's face all the time. Or at least not mentioning it.

Heh, I love these. Hoping for something even more like them for the DVD, whenever that happens!
2th
I still love these things.
Missing cutie mark. When she's on the ground.
Oooh, I see what you did there. lol Letting the viewers pick out the differences, oh fun. :P
Oh man, even a small sampling of these would be wonderful for a DVD release.

It's a lot brighter in the final ^^ I like that :D

Rainbow Stetchy Hooves, freaky. That was the most noticeable for me and also the best change.
can't tell all the differences without listing, so to spare readers the wall of text, the final cut is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better.

Pinkie Pies Mouth got alot bigger in the final cut O.o
Changed the sound when Rainbow's hoof hits Pinkie in the mouth to stop her
The background music at 1:20 is the same as the one when Pinkie Pie goes mad in Party of One.

Perhaps I'm reading too much into this, but I saw slightly more Les Yay in the original...

Worm arm is creepy arm.
Aww, I miss the little gag at the end of this things. Always something to look forward to at the end...
If you are reading this dear animator, can you bring it back for the next evolution? And can we expect the same for Season 2 stuff?
HOLY SHIT
the final couple seconds of Pinkie & Dash laughing weren't in the final version
NEW FOOTAGE
@starfox64x
If you pay attention, the sky still gets dark, but it's much more brief.
huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhh....yay.
Pinkie pie hiccups away on a diagonal instead of a horizontal in the final.

no awkward foreleg (Why do you ponies keep saying "arm"?)
Dashie takes much less time to get off of her cloud in the final
Pinkie flies diagonally in the final
no laugh-fade-to-black in the final.
also, these things are so cool!
During split screen it's like a mexican jumping bean casserole! Look at Pinkie Pie bounce and tell me that is not an accurate description.
I left two full comments of what I saw. I had more but I gave up and just subscribed. Yay ANIMATION MAJOR!
Pinkie's mouth was like SUPER LARGE in final cut when compared to the rough cut. It's quite obvious in split screen.
woow, that's professionalism!
I'm surprised no one caught that rainbow dash is further away from pinkie pie to keep pinkie's hair from crossing over dash's face all the time. Or at least not mentioning it.
Except for the extendo-leg, I'd have to say I prefer the earlier version.
Derp your eyes like it's a 3D picture when it goes split-screen and in the central image all differences will pop. Mostly, a lot of timing changes.
@Artsie Bee
I spotted exactly these!
I SAW THE WATERMARK, THAT WASN'T IN THE ROUGH CUT.
Bigger and better lightning, but Pinkie was slowed down too much...and their faces at the very end threw me off.
Cool
Pinkie pie wasn't breaking the 4th wall in the final cut?
