Equestria Daily Greasemonkey Script

My ALICORN LEVEL coding bro Knighty released a neat greasemonkey script for comments on the site.  It adds a few simple features that make  bloggers default system a bit more streamlined.

Included in the script are:
  • Read more link expands selected blog post
  • Comment quotes show the quote in a balloon popup
  • Quoted comments display which comments quoted it
  • Timestamps change to reflect your timezone
You can download it here! You will need Greasemonkey to run it though!

This sounds really useful. May have to download.

Bah, Firefox. Last thing I want to deal with is another highly flammable animal. Philomena is bad enough.

Awesome, this should help a lot. Now if only greasemonkey worked on my phone.

Cool, more scripts for me to run.

mmmm.........maybe

Chrome has native Greasemonkey support, no need to get greasemonkey.

awesome :D

Interesting...I'll give it a go for a few days, see how it works out.

Question. Why does this script need to access graemepollard?

Octavia said...

@Luna

Har har. :P

Hmm, this is cool. Though I'm fine with it as-is, minus the ability to edit my posts. But still, this is good.

knighty said...

Because the page shows whether your script is outdated or not. It does it on EqD too, admittedly, so it's a bit redundant now.

@Scorch_Mechanic

Sorry, that last post was aimed at this.

Hmmm, that was easy to set up!
Did anyone notice that it makes the buttons at the top "bounce" when you mouseover them? Nice touch!

Flygon16 said...

Guys, did the buttons under the banner start moving when you mouse over them after this script, or have they always done that? o_0

knighty said...

@Flygon16

Yeah I did that :P

Also, in case anyone's worried about the whole "runs on graemepollard.com" it's not some security issue or anything. Just in case anyone was thinking that...

Seth, please mention that Chrome users just need to download it like any other extension. Chrome has native Greasemonkey support.

The Post time stamp has changed correctly but the comments have not...Other wise Bravo!

Well this is cool. I like it.

Neon Noble said...

So, if I click the "expand comments" button and then click the link that says "loaded comments" that replaces it, it loads the comments twice.

knighty said...

@Neon Noble

Oh yeah that needs fixing. If you're looking to hide the comments, just scroll down below them and there's a [hide] button down there.

Neon Noble said...

In fact, it loads as many times as I click that link. You should fix that. :P

Google Chrome has built in support for User scripts so just download the script in Chrome and it will install.

Uh, the popout bubble from the first comment reply won't go away...

@Kimba the White Lion

My script is failing horribly. It's only showing the first popup bubble I scroll over and then it won't go away.

knighty said...

@Kimba the White Lion

Is it the same if you refresh? Also, are you using FF or Chrome? And which version of FF if it's that.

Anonymous said...

... Chrome has built in Greasemonkey? Oh how I wish I knew of this earlier.

Anyways, I downloaded it. Working great so far! :D

Anonymous said...

Great, the timestamps not being in my timezone always bugged me.

Robin said...

Also working in Opera. The only flaw I can see here is that the bottom edge of the quote bubble doesn't move with the rest of the bubble as you move your mouse.

@knighty

Using Firefox the new one. It goes away if I refresh, but only when I refresh. I frankly I don't feel like refreshing the comments everytime I accidentally mouse over a [reply]. Lemme get a screen shot.

SAFARI USERS! You can use NinjaKit to install Greasemonkey scripts. I'm using it right now. Download the extension and just copy and paste the script and hit save. http://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/dd2sk/ninjakit_greasemonkey_for_safari/

Tsitra360 said...

Oh, and I see no bugs using it on Safari

knighty said...

@Kimba the White Lion

That's positively bizarre. It's basically identical code to I use on fimfiction.com and noone has ever reported a bug like that. I'll see what I can do but no promises as I don't even think I'll be able to replicate it.

Anonymous said...

I love the mouse-over on replies.

Tsitra360 said...

@knighty

Sent you an email, I just gave a suggestion to include on your script's page directions for Safari users.

I already have Greasemonkey downloaded for a couple DOUBLES GET scripts, summerfags think I am a wizard

Tsitra360 said...

Ooh, Interesting bug I found. After hitting Expand, the comments loads as expected. But when I click on Loaded (where Expand was) All the little [Reply] tags next to the person name doubles! Click again, it doubles again! It seems the script doesn't know that the comments were already expanded. Someone running on Chrome or Firefox try to replicate it, just to see if its on all browsers or its just Safari.

This is a test.

Great features, I like this.

@Tsitra360
The same happens for me on Chrome.

I also got a weird bug that I can't seem to reproduce anymore when expanding a post with youtube embeds. The first time it showed the wrong videos, which were from another PMV post. After I refreshed, I got three comment boxes instead of the videos.

Shiko said...

Haha, this is awesome, especially the comment tooltip thing!

Anonymous said...

I can actually follow the conversation threads now. Awesome.

WolfJoe said...

Hey I just tryed it out and would be interested if you could change the time on comments aswell as you did it for the news with the script?
I really like it so far.

blindferret said...

I just installed it and I'm using it as we speak. Very nifty handout, it saves a lot of time!

Tosxychor said...

Equestria Daily is now 20% cooler.

Hardbeat Acolyte said...

I really appreciate this, posts are a lot easier to follow when they display the accurate date & time for my timezone. The comment quote features are cool too.
Thanks Knighty :)

Hardbeat Acolyte said...

@WolfJoe
I agree, it would be great if the script could correct the time of comments as well

Gadvac said...

There's a little [Reply] button to see all replies to a comment. Wouldn't it make more sense if it was the other way around? I dunno, maybe I'm just too used to that way.

I just want something to speed this up ;A;
