Humanized FiM Opening

Hey! This is really well done! I could see this being a real cartoon.

I'm so glad they are ponies though.  I don't think I'd ever be able to watch it if they weren't.

You can find the flash at the newgrounds post here!

But, it isn't that bad, for all those haters out there will see something aside from ponies.

It may change their views on the show.

The animation could definitely stand to be better.

And the art style

If it made people here angry, THAN I LOVE IT!

Basharoonskis said...

Haha, nice effort, the animation is decent but the character style isn't my cup of tea, not to mention Spike using a duck to deliver the message is just weak.

@JimmaLe

I don't think people will watch the show because they see a trailer with hoomans

@supervanman64

But they're creepy as hell.

It was well done but creepy.

Its not all that bad, yet the art style and animation could of been better and it was slightly creepy as well.

Okay, so humanized ponies = creepy

but what are your views on ponified humans?

To me, MLP art is MLP art. Human, anthro, or pony.

Wow, I just realized that I would not like FiM if it was about humans and not ponies....

Well done but...there was something very off about it. Cool references to Foster's and Powerpuff Girls though.

I did like the cameos by the Powerpuff Girls and Madame Foster, though.

Tears of a Valedictorian said...

I'm not generally into humanised ponies, but that video's totally different to people drawing them as chicks in bikinis, or as college-age girls so they can fantasise about dating them.

It's cute, and tries to stay faithful to the sort of design styles Lauren Faust uses in Foster's/PPG/Galaxy Girls. So yeah, nice effort.

The tree kicking looks hilarious.

WizardWannabe said...

I thought it was awesome. The animation looked a little stilted (Twilight running out of the balloon) and lacking speed variance for some actions (fluttershy's reaction to angel eating the apple) but it was a great effort. I liked Twilight and Spike at the beginning in the balloon the most, the subtlety of that movement was nice. Applejacks kick looked good too.
I do absolutely love seeing alternate versions of things though, so I may be a little biased.

I don't automatically hate the idea of humanized ponies, but the art style just doesn't work for me. I think a Powerpuff Girls art style would be more appropriate than... whatever exactly that is. Between that and the choppy animation, I am not a fan of this concept.

Luna said...

Yikes, send it to the moon.

Anonymous said...

This is just a funny video. Art style is a bit creepy but the thing was just wel done.
It's kind of a parody to the normal intro. Maybe that's why a lot of you can't find it humorous.
Which, in my opinion, is a little narrow-minded.

Osprey said...

Eww. Granny Foster making an appearance is the only good thing about this.

chiselite said...

Haha. Not bad. Wish the art style for the humans were better but that's me.

Anonymous said...

According to the Newgrounds page, this was drawn frame by frame. That alone is a lot of effort and I have to admire the artist for being able to complete it.

For some reason the applejack scene of kicking a tree just seems so ridiculous that its funny. I did not expect that!

I'll admit the characters look kind of off, but aside from princess Celestia... Everyone else is great.

There's just one minor hiccup with rainbow dash's pause during her run but I'm willing to accept that as just a timing thing.

Hey guys. I'm the dude that made this. I figured going in that I'd end up butchering the style a bit, or a lot, depending on the comments. I do understand where a lot of the complaints come from. I like their big ol heads, but I think their tiny bodies and twiggy legs negate the point. Coulda been a bit thicker. So I'm really sorry it's not your cup of tea, and I really could have done better. This is my first real attempt at animation and I worked really hard on this. I knew before I clicked submit that there were a ton of rookie mistakes out there in the open but I just needed to get it done and prove I could do this. There are a lot of things I know I could have done better. A lot better. But I'm also very proud of what I've done from a technical and visual standpoint with a lot of it. I learned a lot about flash and animating through means other than drawing each frame. I could go on about what I think or maybe even know I did right, but I'm not. That's not what I want to post about. I just want to say thank you to everyone, for the positive and negative criticism. If you all told me this was perfect, I would be a lot more prone to ignore my faults and keep making mistakes. And I think most of us know what happens when that happens (B^U)

Seriously, I'm young, I'm very new at this, and I think I did a darn good job all things considered. But I appreciate all of the feedback I've gotten in so short of a time and I hope I get more, good or bad. I appreciate it. All of it. You're all entitled to your opinions and I'm so very happy to hear both sides of it.

So to the lovers. Thanks a lot. And to the haters. I'm sorry and I'll do better next time.

A Terrible Person said...

@Anonymous

Yes, I saw the reasoning behind choosing that art style, and I understand why the animator chose it. I still don't think it worked very well.

Fun fact: Lauren Faust also worked on The Powerpuff Girls, which is why I suggested that art style as an alternative.

A Terrible Person said...

@Anonymous (the creator one)
Don't get discouraged by all this. As your first animation, it was bound to be rough around the edges anyway, but it was not at all a bad showing. My only gripe was the art style which I personally didn't like, but I admit despite that it was well-done.

However, you take that roughness and add in the general dislike for humanized ponies that this blog's community seems to have... well, you can see the results, can't you?

Altercation said...

I thought it was pretty damn cool. Props to the artist, anyways. The amount of work that they pulled with this is nothing short of staggering.

I mean, I can get thinking it's a little off. But it's kind of insulting to start badmouthing it when there's absolutely nothing technically wrong with it.

Anonymous said...

I'd rather watch this than the Live Show! :P

Tears of a Valedictorian said...

@Anonymous

I've watched it a few more times now, it's really well done, and I think that for a lot of people there was no right way to do this.

This is pretty much the only example of ponies as people where I haven't shuddered a little bit. Also, DAT DUCK.

Bosstone said...

I can get not liking the art style. Not liking it because it's humanized and not in a fanservice way is...well, let's say bemusing and leave it at that.

Anonymous said...

Oh it's the creator. Now I feel bad.

It's really good. Humanized ponies is just always weird, regardless of quality.

Anonymous said...

I think you did really good. The animation apparently freaks a lot of people out. I 'm not a fan of it either, but assumed you had a reason.
You managed to create some humor with Applejack just kicking the tree (don't know why I found it hilarious, it's not like I was expecting anything else), and Spike using a duck of all things.

I'm kind of shocked at the reactions here.
Apparently a lot of people don't like humanized stuff and are unable to look past that.

Anonymous said...

All right, this guy gets mad props for doing this frame by frame, but it's still kinda creepy looking.

Ryan said...

Wasn't half bad as some of the people thought otherwise. The user was made a good effort to create a humanized version of Equestria, and to keep it true to the show.

There were some animations that were wonky there and here, but the user gave it's best shot. I mean heck, there were some scenes that the user can't replicate without the need of 3rd party applications (despite the show created using Flash 8, some of the people created some custom software to enchance it's lifespan and give the show more charm) - so I'll give the user a pass for that.

*chuckle* Cameos! The Powerpuff Girls, and Madame Foster from Foster's Home.

I give it a solid A. Especially knowing (or guessing) how much work was put into this.

@Anonymous

For a first attempt, this is incredible! The animation is mostly solid and reads very well but the character designs aren't all that attractive. It would have been more in keeping with the style of the show to use a rounder outline and cuter proportions but I understand why you went in the direction you did.

Don't worry about the negative comments. You did a very decent job.

Sodakick said...

Oh hey I can make a username. I'm so very bad at the internets. Haha.

@Terrible Person, I honestly agree about the style. Though I didn't realize there was a hate for humanized ponies. Course I don't really know much about what the community does and doesn't like beyond the show. Live and learn I guess.

If you wanna know in terms of discouragement, I'm more happy that no one said anything about the Backgrounds. They were an absolute blast to replicate and BGs are my worst trait.

Anonymous said...

Squidbombed said...

What's with all of the hate for the characters as humans? I can almost understand people hating hard on anthro stuff, but why humans?

Renarainboom said...

I'll be honest, I would not want to see the humanized FiM, but I can clearly see the author's intent. This was merely an experiment, a curiosity of using the FiM creator's different styles of animation. It's hardly anything to get truly upset about. This wasn't an attack, or a parody even. You can see in the video a real effort to incorporate the spirit of FiM. So come on, where is that love and tolerance us bronies are supposed to have?

Anonymous said...

The animation isn't bad but i still prefer ponies.

haha spike looks kinky as a human.

A Terrible Person said...

@Sodakick
I think the hate for humanized is stronger here than in the community as a whole, but don't quote me on that. I know there's at least enough people who like them to create enough stuff for people to hate on =P

After re-watching it, looking at the backgrounds, I have to say those are very well done. They looked a lot like the show... which, on second thought, might have been part of the problem, since the characters themselves didn't look much like the show.... but regardless, they were very good.

PonyPonyPonyBrony said...

Wow. THe human haters are gonna love this one.

If some ponies can't handle the fact that there are no boundaries or borders for creativity then they shouldn't comment at all and act like bullies :) I'm happy to see something different and so well done! Don't like it and not because of the humanized thing people are crying about. The character designs, it hit a neuron in my brain that brought a memory back.

I had to google it to make sure I wasn't nuts but to me it's there. The characters look like they came from the Braceface cartoon.

Godot-17 said...

Cool... but wtf >__>

But honestly, I'd actually like it KAWIIDESU style if it were more of an anime style. The style here was more of the Proportionless American [Seriously, those limbs were pretty damn skinny! That contributed to the WTF Levels] I can actually understand the negative reaction because the drawing style itself didn't feel natural. It had nothing to do with it being similar to the show.

But I like how much effort is put into this. [Duck. Lol]

sotha said...

I may not know much about animation, but I can see that it would take a lot of effort to pull off as well as you did, given the circumstances. I say great job. Top drawer.

The character designs may have been something that we didn't expect, but there isn't necessarily anything wrong with that. I commend you for keeping within the spirit of Lauren Faust's works.

Some of us just need to be a little more open minded apparently.

Atlur said...

Psh, I thought it was pretty cool. It's a fun concept, and executed well enough. I liked seeing his interpretation of the various scenes in the opening, and there were definitely some funny parts as a result (AJ's kick, the messenger bird). Well done, I say.

My only complaint is that I think humanized Spike should STILL have breathed fire and used that for communication. Because it's just cool.

Other than that, I approve +8

BronyMike said...

Quite well done.

Technical critique: It could stand some playback controls, higher audio quality, and to be zoomed in a bit more, to make it easier to see all the nuances. Timing and placement of everything going on in it worked well though.

Opinion critique: I also wasn't too big on the art style. The legs seem too long and the characters are all too thin, or at least too twiggy. Adding a bit more thickness to the limbs would make it a bit easier to make out the characters and would make it easier to notice the work put into this. Also, some of the animations could flow a little more smoothly, a couple seemed jaggy or unnatural (Twilight running from the balloon, for instance, could've been better)

Also, where the FUCK did this hatred of humanized ponies sprout from? I love seeing how people would interpret them as humans. Other than some anthro stuff or 34 stuff, I've pretty much never seen them "in bikinis" or "with giant tits" like you all keep talking about.

And even if

Honestly, how does this fanbase write and love hundreds of shipping fics, but they can't handle some imaginative reinterpretations of the characters? If somethign relevant is being posted and you bitch about it solely because you downright refuse to accept anything in the entire artistic subclassification, you're doing a shit job as a brony.

Artists, PLEASE don't take the intolerant asses in these comments to heart. They get to read about ponies fucking, so you get to draw human versions of those characters playing and having innocent fun.

Honestly, you people act as though they're not thought of sexually when they're in pony form. "Plot" and "candy vag" mean anything to you?

BronyMike said...

Jeez, you bronies and your comments. At least this isn't shitty with MS Paint crap in it. I commend the effort that's put into this since animations in Flash take loads of work and it's not like it's a single frame moving with the mouth moving and eyes blinking. Some parts were iffy and need lots of work but there was effort put into this which is what i like the most.

Its not bad, my only critique is that the characters all look too lanky. Its not bad.

SomeGuy said...

It wasn't half bad. The animation was a little stiff, but for a solo project it was a good job. I liked the idea behind it. If the limbs were more rounded at the joints, and more fluid in their motions it would look better and closer to the MWGG style the artist/animator was going for.

To all the people who complain about humanized ponies, I don't understand the hate. Why are ponified humans good but humanized ponies are bad? To me MLP fan art is MLP fan art no matter the style.

Vyuun said...

I can appreciate how much time and effort must have gone into this, but effort can't be worth 100% of the grade. The animation was choppy and the art style was creepy IMO. Even the sound quality wasn't great.

The guy that made this has put more creativity and hard work into it than most of the so-called "bronies" on here could squirt out of their puckered and abused assholes after a binge at El Carroña Mexican Buffet with an LD50 dose of Ex-Lax in their system and a gun to their head.

I say so-called because many of those replying are acting like stuck up dickheads, especially in the earlier posts. And I think I know why.

There is a detachment to what they see because to them it came into existence as simply as it appeared on their monitors. They feel free to make a mockery of it, to rip it apart and digest it like scavenger birds circling the highway for roadkill.

Then the creator shows up and explains the effort and artistry that went into the work, and now the piece not only has a living face attached, but one that's pretty cool and shit and doesn't afraid of anything. The dude's got Rainbow Dash sized balls for showing up after the blind and senseless tirade launched at his work.

Now instead of dismissing it and treating it as meat, the more intelligent and broad-minded individuals speak up (partially out of outrage at the previous intolerance shown), and some of those who earlier just shat on site now sober up and give more level-headed comments, some even maintaining and restating their rightful opinions, but with a little more civility this time.

tl;dr: Remember how MLP:FiM started out, and the shit dismissals and crap talked about it by people who just wanted to trash something? Don't be like that.

EpsillonXD said...

Pretty good, I honestly expected the art style to be much worse(judging from the picture and peoples posts). Still not something I'd really like, but definitely better than expected.

Still, very well done, I'd probably watch a redone version at some point once you get more experience, smoothing out the animation and whatnot.

The Linker said...

@Filiecs

Days!? At least weeks, I bet! This stuff ain't easy!

The animators of the actual show take days to do a one-minute scene. Over a week if it's something complicated, like a song. This, as done by someone who's NOT a professional animator and, in fact, made this as his first animation? Must have taken a LONG time.

It really is a shame that hours heaped upon hours of work can be dismissed off-hand by so many, like it was nothing. I agree with everything
@Vermillion Twilight said (except maybe that colorful metaphor, heh). I hate feeling like I'm the only person who knows that someone is behind EVERYTHING you ever watch, and poured something of themselves into it. You shouldn't need to MEET the person to remember that fact.

Very good! If you compare the art style, the humans are very similar to how Lauren drew her "Galaxy Girls," characters. Plus, during the Ponyville scenes, characters from other Faust projects show up.

Overall, I have to give this an eight out of ten, because it got a little jerky at points.

Technically well done, nice flash, Smoothly animated.

But the subject matter. No. Just fuckin NO! Ugh.. I need some brain bleach now. Oh wait, this 5th of everclear will do nicely.

Dudes, where's the love and tolerance when you're bashing against this fan-made opening? Sometimes you tend to forget what's being a brony about...

Love and tolerance, fellow bronies.

P.S. Loved the animation :D

Bahaha.. for some reason i fell to the floor laughing when i saw applejack kick that tree :D

What.

That was nice. But the lack of magic seems forced, especially since the show has an abundance of magic, so completely removing it in the intro ruins it.

Animation could be better, too. But, it was a nice 30 seconds

It was pretty good. Not bad at all for his first animation....
Alright, now that that's out of the way. Seriously people, there's furry art out there ruining our already jaded 'reputation' and you're complaining about the mane cast being human? Be GLAD when people portray them as human and not pony/human furry abominations.

Applejack kicking the tree had me laughing until my throat hurt. Awesome video.

This is kinda scary...

Interesting. Not the best gijinka version of the cast I've seen, but impressive; most people keep it in fanart.

This was pretty neat.
I noticed Madame Foster in the background.

I liked it, very good job. The only bad part was the Spike scene.

@BronyMike I agree with you completely

i didnt like it, but good job for the effort

Seriously, what is the basis of the hatred for the humanised ponies? These comments are confusing. Isn't it obvious he was trying to emulate Lauren Faust's art style with her Galaxy Girls?
Someone above did mention that all the girls are white though, would have been nice to vary that up a bit.

WOW that was actually freaking awesome.

MAKE AN ANIME VERSION!

You know, Its not as bad as I though it would be. I don't have a problem with Humanized ponies in general (Like all things, some are better than others but on a whole they are a better lot than the Humanized Sonic characters I've seen). Its just that when you put them into the opening, they just look weird. A lot of their actions were designed for them as ponies like Applejack bucking the tree. I have never been applepicking but I'm pretty sure they don't doing it like that. So like I said, not bad could have been a hell of a lot worse.

I liked it. Yes it has its fault’s but for someone’s first animation it's actually pretty amazing. Also we finally know where Yotsuba came from!

Weird , just weird...

I agree with Seth, it's nice but really, cartoons feautring humanoids, or even worse, humans?

This is actually pretty good. Too bad about everyone's knee-jerk reaction to humanized ponies in the comments.

Anonymous said...

..........what has happened to my ponies?

Comment under Video:
"I remenber My Little Pony, my cousin used to watch this. Turning them into humans can be a good thing to modernize the franchise to this age."
Talk about having no clue whats going on...

I agree to disagree with some of the people not liking the idea of "humanized" ponies.

It's not much a question of "Why", but "How".

Simply speaking, "humanized" ponies are only awesome if they're drawn awesomely.

Now back to the matter at hand. My Little Pony... "As Girls"...?

I lol'd. Commendable effort, though, I'll give you that.
