Evolution of a Scene, Volume 2

Once upon a time in a magical land called Equestria Daily, there was a video by an animator who worked on My Little Pony detailing the process that went into putting together a complete and tv-ready scene.

Now, that brave soul returns to give you another look, this time pulling something from Winter Wrap Up (no, not the song). If you've ever wanted to see what sort of mad science goes into the creation of a Mutant Dragon-Pony Totem Pole, today is your lucky day. Check it out after the page break!

The amount that I am hoping that these scenes, plus others being kept hidden away, are going to be extras on a DVD set can not be measured.

Gives me one of these per episode (on average), some commentary from the VAs, and a couple of other goodies, and I'll shell out the money and then some, Hasbro.

Really cool. I love how it's scene 148c XD
That must get confusing. Wonder how long their storyboards are...

Oh my glob that was so very awesome, I love these making of scenes, I hope they add stuff like this to the dvd's more than anything personally (if they do make them).

This was very interesting, it's amazing how much time they put into each scene. I wonder how long it takes them to do a whole episode on average.

I noticed Cheerilee's filly photo, the elements of harmony, the baby carriage from ep 3, the banjo, the stuffed turtle, Pinkie's megaphone, the jackhammer from Cloudsdale, Dash's "Hermes'" helmet, the anvil, the sign with an arrow on it, the accordion, the tuba, the fucking Moon, the tickets, the phoenix feather...

Oh, and it's really neat how much work goes into tweaking just 21 seconds of footage.

The artist didn't seem too happy about it, but the shortened head-shakes were definately better.

There are very few things on earth better than an artist willing to laugh at his or herself.

Those guys are probably the ones most excited about how many older fans they have. I can't imagine that most children's cartoons have such a large segment of their fanbases that would be interested in the technical components of the construction of a scene.

I was talking with some non-brony friends over Xbox Live when I watched this.
Me: *laughing*
Friend: What happened?
Me: The moon just came out of Pinkie Pie's ears.
Friend: ...

I love watching the thought process that takes a story from static drawings on a storyboard to finished animation. The rationale behind the various decisions is intensely interesting to me. I also love that they feel secure enough in the superior quality of the work they turn out to show us the nuts and bolts of it, as well as the effort into making it that way, and even the "rough cut", when it wasn't everything they had hoped it would be. ^_^

More please!

Pinkie Pie's voice actress did an excellent "brrr."

I want to know what kind of post production they use. The lines seem "thicker" somehow.

Do they do it for the whole episode, or is it just to correct for outdoor/indoor scenes and lighting?

I can NOT get enough of this.

This is how you know the show is awesome. The animators have fun working on it, and this guy apparently has fun talking about it, too.
