Ditzy Doo is her real name but people call her Derpy Hooves to make fun of her.
I also have trouble believing that Ditzy could be a single mum. She's the most loveable character on the show.
I think I recognized one of the demonic-looking silhouettes surrounding them when Dinky was talking about all the ponies playing 'Let's shit on the neighborhood retard': the Bearer of the Element of Loyalty. Remember all the times when she mistook honest confusion for a deliberate attempt to ruin her day? The lazy hot-shot with the big dreams and a bigger mouth is not a person with the patience or insight to see what the less fortunate have to struggle with.
"Derpy" is the number one reason we need a novel. She is so easily cast as the crazy/klutzy/ultra-loser, I'd love to have an official take on who she really is. The way fans try to validate her life... I get sad :(
(fun fact- in episode 23 where the mane six get their cutie marks, "Derpy" appears at the sun raising in adult form (crazy eyes and all,) making her older than the 'six.)

As I have commented in a fanfic entry, I don't like the way people refer to her as the (IMO) somewhat derogatory name Derpy. Worst part is, it's so widespread that I found myself using it, and I dislike that name.
Ditzy Doo sounds much cuter too.
The first comic is really sweet and endearing. I don't think that relationship would ever be canon, but it's still well written and works for the characters.

1) The character is NOT officially named Ditzy, she's not officially named anything yet, but it's a lot more likely to become Derpy given greater prevalence of it and history within the fandom. Also I believe Lauren Faust drew some artwork of the character and named her Derpy in it.
2)You think "Derpy" is insulting bit "Ditzy" is not? The word Ditzy actually refers to her character as a whole and implies by definition that she is stupid. "Derpy" is just a cute sounding made up word that refers to her eye condition and says nothing about her character.

And maybe the last one isn't us making fun of her, but Derpy making fun of herself. Maybe she's trying to tell us a joke. She s a postmare, she should know whether or not she has mail, not some new-fangled talking-picture box.

I've loved the first one since Ego first posted it to her dA page... for all of you gathering up pitchforks against the crowd of mean ponies, she pointed out on dA that the pictures are also Dinky's exaggerated filly POV, and even if only a few meanie pants ponies who are jerks to you (or your mum), when you're a little kid, it can seem like everypony's out to get you. 8(

In the first comic, the picture that said "I have mommy, and mommy has me." made me HHHHHHHNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGHHHHH so hard the neighbors heard it.
