Thanks for sharing that. I hadn't seen her response before regarding their approximate ages. I had always guessed late teens to early twenties, just because they seem to have jobs, but aren't completely mature. Though it's strange that, apart from Mr. and Mrs. Cake, the Mayor, and the royal sisters, you don't really see any ponies that appear "older" than the others.
But yeah, people got a touch overreactant. You announced it was saucy. If people didn't want saucy, they shouldn't have clicked. I don't think it'd hurt to have something like Ponychan's NSFW preview, though.
Ok, I saw this comic on dA before it was posted on here. Even though cloppy stuff doesn't bother me, I never thought it would be put on EQD. We need to draw the line somewhere and I think this crosses it... just about. There are other sites for whoever wants to see that sort of stuff.
I think it was a right decision to remove it, and also I respect that you've apologised, Seth. I just think, that as people already judge the brony community with cynicism - and this site being the flagship of that community - we should keep it family friendly. After all, remember what the actual age of the audience is, it's younger kids. Some might look or post here, alone or with parents. I think it's for the best to try and keep borderline or outright clop out of the site.
The point is that this site is the front Brony's present. We have to keep ourselves somewhat presentable. Its Seth's site and all, but the only reason people reacted like they did is cause they like this site.
The blog became popular only because of Sethisto XVI, and it remains popular only because of Sethisto XVI, and his other friends who oversee the site. If this site is effectively run by everyone with a voice, it will gravitate naturally towards dissolution, argument, and chaos. For those who desire lub and tolewance, then lub and tolewance this (or that) comic. There's a warning, you disregard it. You rage at Sethisto for opening the door WHEN IT IS YOU WHO WALKED IN.
Sethisto XVI will continue to run things as he sees fit, but now the fundies and others who think that the community is popular and cool because of THEM (who are sorely mistaken) will have a larger say in the matter. They will force their views on others, and as we have seen, it is entirely possible that this will happen again in the future.
The operators of community driven sites have to react to the attitudes of the community; such is the nature of the beast, lest they alienate or permanently alter it in a negative way. I know some people approve of R34 and others do not, and ED doesn't really need to post R34 to keep the site enjoyable to everyone - however, a lot of people do not enjoy R34.
Keeping it safe is the best option for everyone - aside from the R34 artists who might like the extra traffic of course :p
Boo, fucking, hoo. It wasn't really that terrible. Next time give us font size 30, red text and caps lock warning. Maybe then people wont click and go all boohoocommunityruin'd.
I don't necessarily have a problem with the second comic being posted, but I think it might've been too prominently placed.
This site has other things featuring suggestive material--we've had our fair share of saucy pics in drawfriend--but I think the main difference is that you have to jump through some hoops in order to get to them. Saucy drawfriends are never the headline pics, and they're hidden behind text links without thumbnails.
By contrast, the second comic in this post was prominently featured alongside a perfectly tame comic, with the same size thumbnail, and the only warning it got was plain text in between the two comic links. I'm gonna be honest, I didn't even read the text, because I usually prefer to see the whole comic for myself before I read any side commentary. Arguably my own fault, but I bet there's a lot of other people who do the same thing, and it would've been easily prevented with a text link to the comic instead of a thumbnail.
Seth, I bet if you posted the comic as a saucy pic in the next drawfriend, very few people would complain.
Being drawn means younger audience can still see it. With something like Skittles, if they're too young for it, they won't get it. (Sort of like Scootaloo and her review in the "F-Grade drinking game")
@Anonymous Yeah... freedom of speech is shaky ground to stand on here dude, considering its heavily copyrighted material and Hasbro/Hub and the creators of the show have been VERY, VERY kind with not overly enforcing copyright infringement based on the grounds that this is free advertising for the show and their products, the real money maker.
Soooo... please don't let hasbro throw a hissy fit. it can hurt everyone if bad publicity starts to hurt the shows image and Hasbro decides its not cool.
Honestly, Seth, should probably, for the sake of quelling a violent shit storm, take that stuff down. IMO (read, IMO!) it can get super creepy and inappropriate really fast, and ya, this is a site thats supposed to be a kinda homebase for fans. Hell, I really don't even find some ship fics to be in any kind of good taste. there is a line people.
Seth like I said before, your the man! It's too bad some ponies had to get all worked up over this as opposed to politely adding they're opinions on the matter. But it happens, human nature unfortunetly.
I don't believe the issue is that people "dislike" the comic and therefore want it off the site. I'm not saying most people like it, I'm saying that that's not the problem. The problem is that the content can reflect negatively on EqD and bronies as a whole. I don't know about the rest of the community, but I'm just afraid that bronies will become the "new" furries, in the sense that we would ruin something by having porn of it. I'm not saying that such artwork can't exist. It just shouldn't be on what is considered to be the most popular MLP blog which gets thousands of views a day. People form opinions of us based on things posted/said here. Who cares what other people think, you ask? Well, I do, and I don't think that's a bad thing.
Anyway, that's just my take on the issue. People are free to disagree.
There's a lot of anger going around about this. I think everyone should step back, have a snack, and then think about what they have to say before posting it. It's too easy to respond rapidly to your emotions on the internet.
@Anonymous why do you care how you reflect? you watch a show for little girls, of course there is stigma, but then you act like lil bitch niggas bawlin your eyes out over what is frankly a light comic. It's embarassing, i'd rather be lumped in with the pornfuckers than with pussyhole kids who cant take the slightest chance of being seen for what, let's be honest, we really are.
Fucking hell. So much for love and tolerance, eh? I understand you taking it down though, Seth. Anything to shut up the whiny assholes who decided they know better than you about your own blog.
Ah. Saw you took it down. Brony pride +2. Thanks Seth.
As an online community organizer myself (running a club of tens of thousands of members on DeviantArt), I know that the community's feedback is important, and it makes me glad to see you care enough about your own blog to allow the collective masses who congregate here voice themselves and be listened to.
Hopefully this defuses the tension, and that nothing of the sort slips through again. A lot of us are quite defensive when it comes to the fandom, and get criticized a lot for it. The 'pedophile' and 'yiffer' labels are difficult to dispel when even the largest nexus of the fandom gives them fodder to criticize us further with. After all, it's the innocence and the light-hearted vibe of the show that gives the show such a distinct appeal, and when people porn it up it makes me feel...violated.
Thank you for doing that. Honestyly, I didn't even notice the warning until after I saw a comment that said there was a warning. ^_^" All I have to say is next time, make the warning more prominent. If that's done, I think there will be a lot less rage.
First one had a funny last panel. Second, before removal, had annoyingly clunky dialogue, was unfunny, and lacked cleverness. Yes, that's what I'm complaining about - if borderline stuff gets posted here, I'd prefer it to have value beyond being borderline (if we are, in fact, calling that value in the first place).
It's not really very cool or convincing to try to marginalize an opinion that disagrees with your own by attacking the person who wrote it with comments like "puritanical manchild" etc.
It's a question of accessibility; some content just doesn't want to be seen by a substantial portion of the community, and the experience is better for everyone if that partially undesired content is not prominent.
Overreacting to the content was silly, but insulting people for not wanting to see it is unnecessary.
Anonymous 07/27/11(Wed)15:50 No.28114674 >>28114618 Now Sethisto removed the comic and now everyone is sucking his cock and praising him because he saved the image of the fandom.
Because it's unusual for a COMPANY to listen to its audience and take note of them. They are going outside the norm in a good way.
But Sethisto, as one person, shouldn't allow himself to become influenced by EqDaily's audience because if that happens, chaos ensues from wavering opinions clashing and inter-brony wars starting.
"Overreacting to the content was silly, but insulting people for not wanting to see it is unnecessary."
See, here's the thing.
I don't care if you don't want to see it. If you don't want to see it, you can close your browser tab and do something else. You have perfect control over what is on your screen at any one time, especially since Sethisto is kind enough to warn us of the contents and place the comic behind a couple links.
No, what I have a problem with is when people decide that /nobody else/ should be able to see it either.
@Sethisto Thanks Seth, I think you made the right decision.
I didn't actually see the comic, but I don't think I would've raged about it like a few other commenters have. However, I think that as the blog is pretty much the most well-known face of the fandom, we should try to keep it as clean as possible for the sake of our collective reputation
Thanks a lot. My little sis found this site on her own, and even though I don't think she went here more than two or three times, I really, really, really don't want her to see this kind of thing. No, telling a kid something is forbidden for no apparent reason wouldn't help.
Yes, besides the obvious "being a flagship" thing, you must not forget that this site has enough visibility to attract kids and little girls, and can easily be mistaken for an official site about the show. With 2 million clicks per week, so many websites referencing linking to it and many, many kid-friendly mlp videos having the "seen on Equestria Daily" tag, it's very easy to stumble on your site, and this is why you have the responsibility to make it safe for them.
Even saucy fanfics shouldn't even be here imo : yes, a kid is likely to read a "Skittles" story about candy with a cute picture. I don't really mind people liking that stuff, but they know where to get it (and more) anyway.
This would only be a valid counterpoint if people were actually forced to see it. This is a case of "I not only don't want to see it, but no one else should even be able to see it either."
I think it's just because of how happy and wholesome the show is, I get way more bothered about this type of internet shenanigans when it applies to MLP than most other stuff.
Same with Calvin & Hobbes. There's been badly-drawn Simpsons porn circulating pretty much since the internet started, and that stuff doesn't bother me, but if I saw anything like that with Calvin & Hobbes, it would totally freak me out. Because Calvin & Hobbes means a lot to me, and I don't wanna have it tainted with that stuff. It's same with MLP for me.
All that said though, I don't have a problem with stuff like that comic getting posted up, because it is cute and funny, and not just porn. I just think it should be marked in some way that it's a bit more eye-bleach than something like ratemyplot, so that people with more delicate constitutions like myself know that it's something that we'll regret seeing.
Haha, after reading some of these comments...I feel for you Seth. >puts up censored version of comic >RABBLE RABBLE >MY EYES >HERP DERP >I'M 12 AND WHAT IS THIS >removes comic >RABBLE RABBLE >Y U REMOVE COMIC SETH YOU PUSSY >DERP DERP
I do know that such images exists in ALL fandoms. Also, there are sites dedicated of showing 'saucy' pics appear. I never perceived EQD to be like those sites. I never joined a fan community before because I knew moderators would post 'saucy' pics without a thought. I'm glad that this site is retaining its neutrality in this fandom and don't post all facets of a fandom.
I don't really get why people are upset, the comic wasn't that bad!
I mean Trixie did cheat at her magic trick and that spreads a bad message, especially if kids saw it, but I think we can let that kind of thing slip this once....
Honestly, I think "Saucy!" works pretty well for that. I can sympathize with your position, but seeing that word should just help your eyes skip along to the next thing, just as [Grimdark] is a suitable label to warn people off fanfics they might not want to read.
I personally believe (And this is just what I'd do in his shoes) that there should be a public apology, along with the reasons as to how the hentai got through, along with the steps that will be taken to ensure it does not happen again.
I don't see a difference. If either Hasbro or Seth are completely dominated or controlled by fan opinions, then yes, chaos will ensue. But both are also able to simply listen to the community and use our opinions in making their own judgement calls.
In most cases, I'm sure Seth does whatever he wants with the blog he runs. In this particular case, he listened to our (differing) opinions, decided, on his own, that it would be best to take it down. We didn't force him to take it down through spam or a boycott of the site or a DDoS attack or something. We voiced our opinions, he hear us, and agreed.
Hentai? You're kidding, right? That was some of the tamest... I don't even know how to reply to this. The stupidity of your words have made mine leave me. Thanks a lot.
When I saw a few hours ago that TheXxxX said on his DA he'd emailed the comic to Seth, I was bracing myself for the shitstorm if it got posted. And sure enough.
My opinion is irrelevant, but I personally didn't have a problem with the comic itself. It's honestly a LOT tamer than many other...um..."unfortunate" images I'm come across. However, I believe that maybe the link should have been behind a cut, and that there should have been a much bigger warning. I personally didn't care about it being posted here, it honestly wasn't any worse than a lot of the shipping fics posted here and I honestly never saw this as a site for "children" regardless.
Don't get me wrong, I'd like for this site to remain relatively "clean" as it has, but I believe the occasional "not-so-clean" thing such as this, with proper warning, should still be ok to post here. I mean, the comments here are rarely clean even on a perfectly innocent post, so I never saw this as a place for the really young'uns, and it's ultimately Seth's blog, not an official MLP site.
Despite some saying he "gave in to pressure", I think Seth probably made the right call this time about taking it down, if only because it caused such an "incident".
tl;dr Let's just calm down guys, we're gonna get through this.
Nobody is claiming that "nobody else should be able to see it either." People are free to view those kinds of images on sites dedicated to hosting them. Nothing is stopping people from also going to other sites to find porn. The other side simply felt that that kind of pic isn't appropriate for THIS site. Historically, EqD has not hosted those kind of images. The "saucy" pics that are found here are tame. I know that "tame" is relative, but IMO that second comic went over the line.
Bronies arguing amongst themselves about a comic is pathetic. You're all being pathetic. Some bronies enjoy clop material, that's just a given. It exists, there is porn of it, and people will enjoy it. As the "flagship" sight, as you call it, it will eventually have material to appeal to everyone, even the "sickos." If you don't like it, then just walk away, or grow a set and deal with it. You're all more than capable of reading something, so if you don't like borderline things, stay away from the word "saucy." It was right there, black and white, clear as crystal. You clicked and you complained, so you GET NOTHING in terms of sympathy or support.
Honestly, I've never been more pissed off at a single group of people. You really are acting like the weenies that the pony-haters say we are.
@TenchiFreak5 Removing from EQD isn't preventing anyone from seeing it. In fact, people can still quite readily see it here: (censored) http://thexxxx.deviantart.com/#/d41snz0 and here: (uncensored) http://thexxxx.deviantart.com/#/d41pgi3 What people are saying is that they don't want it on Equestria Daily. Throwing around straw man arguments aren't making those of us who do want to see it here look very good.
Oh yeah, it is my fault that I clicked it, I underestimated the saucy.
But if there was an EXTRA SAUCY! marking, or a 'no means no' Trixie icon or something for the more intense stuff, every one of the people who whined on here would lose the right to do so :)
Dude. The pic was intended as a JOKE. A censored joke at that! There were no bits shown, and nothing even close to clop-worthy material unless you use your imagination. Hentai is full on, anime sex with most if not all of the sexual organs showing, and the act is shown with no intent of humor. If you honestly thought this was hentai then you are either young/innocent, stupid, or both.
@Matrilwood Public apology from Seth? Are you fucking serious? Maybe you should apologise to Seth for shitting up this blog with "I'm 12 and what is this" comments?
"The other side simply felt that that kind of pic isn't appropriate for THIS site."
Well, this time around Seth appears to agree, so I can't really argue that. But my tendency is to want to leave that decision up to Seth, since as I said before it's his judgment that helped make this site so popular.
Shall we lobby to get rid of all the grimdark fics too?
Just because our definitions of Hentai are different doesn't mean you have to be a jerk about it. Can we please remain civil about this. No need to start another argument.
Also Cupcakes is aloud on here and that describes mutilation but people complain about this making the site not family friendly....community I am dissapoint...so damn dissapoint...
Oh my God. There is no "my definition of hentai." Hentai is porn. This was not porn. Not in the slightest. It implied sex, but so have many other images/fanfics and nobody caused a shitstorm over those.
I agree that it should be ultimately Seth's decision. But if he decides to post saucy+ images, he has to be aware of both the positive and negative consequences of doing so.
Both saucy images and grimdark stories are, as we've seen through these comments, a tricky subject. I think there are some acceptable saucy/grimdark, but also others that cross the line. The problem is that the line is different for each individual. So where does Seth draw it? When does a "saucy" image become "extra saucy"? When does an "extra saucy" image become "porn"? I know where my line is, but I'm sure it's not the same for everybody. That's why I believe it best for Seth to just play on the safe side and keep those kind of things off the site. They are still easily found on DA, FA, Ponibooru, etc., but people won't get their panties in a bunch about it being seen here.
What? So now I can't point out the logical fallacies you are making when you talk? How else will I reveal the fact that you're using scare tactics to get people on your side?
I'm not having a go at you. But I think it would help if you realized that that /was/ a really officious thing to say and is not something you should expect.
Seth is a volunteer doing a pretty demanding job. He's just a guy like any of us. Maybe it was a mistake to let that comic through, but why can't it be enough to leave it at a mistake? It's not a PR nightmare, he's not a company with bad policy practices, he just puts up interesting pony-related stuff. As it happened, people objected to this particular thing.
The second (Already removed) one, though is way inappropriate, BUT not just because it's saucy, in my opinion.
What really makes the second comic terrible is that it jumps off a point of a certain scene in Over A Barrel. Combined with it's "shocking" content, every time I watch that scene in Over A Barrel, I would think of the comic.
The problem is simply that it retroactively ruins an entire episode for some people. And that's not cool considering how great season 1 was.
Even if the comic was just "Grimdark" instead of saucy, it still could retroactively ruin the episode because it's a divergent from a scene in it. It doesn't help that there is an actual NSFW version of that comic.
If the comic had an original setup, I could tolerate it on the site(with appropriate warnings), although I think it would still be a little too much, but as it stands I consider it to be the worst of the worst from the fandom, since it effectively ruins the actual episodes (for some people). There may be a few users who say it was created for humour but I think the comic takes itself just seriously enough to still be mentally scarring. It's practically a Pinkie/Dash clop comic with humour tacked-on, and not the kind I know from Pinkie, either.
And that's another thing, taking the interpretation of Pinkie as a molester and going with it is just wrong. It reminds me too much of yaoi fictions where one guy is forcibly raped by some other guy and then for some reason this makes them fall in love (Or they were already in love and didn't know it). Total nonsense. The average intelligent being does not act that way, and such fictions don't seem to realize this.
Anyway, I think I'll stop now, I'm ranting at this point. All I mean to say is that "molest/rape" fiction that takes itself too seriously is disgusting, and even moreso when it tries to insert itself into canon (regardless if it was on purpose or not).
Even if none of us see this as a site for children, it still definitely looks like one, is named like one, and definitely has enough visibility to be found by a kid (my little sis did, gladly she only came back once or twice... for the "cute drawings"). This isn't about what we don't want to see, it's about what we don't want OTHERS to see. It's about moral responsibility.
For example, smashboards might be heavily competitive, it's still technically about a kids' game and strictly prohibits swearing. Equestria Daily is much more likely to be found, by even more innocent kids, and yet it should show things like this or Skittles on the front page with a cute drawing ?
I like how everyone is thinking of Skittles. Just goes to show how spontaneous they are, using the first shipping fanfic that comes to mind, even though there is a whole range of saucy and grimdark to choose from.
Skittles was fairly recent, so of course they'd use it as an example. Also, from what I've heard, it was pretty borderline as well, so it's a good example to use.
Oh, by the way, while literally every fandom has this kind of stuff, it's ALWAYS kept away from the main sites, and you ALWAYS have to either look for it or visit "unsafe" places to find it.
I believe we all know the one exception to this rule, and its violation is probably the main reason why this community has such a bad (probably undeserved) reputation. That's what destroyed this fandom, we definitely don't want the same thing happening to us.
I'm glad Seth understands his responsibility, even though he didn't ask for it. That's the burden of popularity ;)
My gods man can how juvenile can you be? It's a relatively tame censored version of a non-canon fantasy poking fun at a scene from another fantasy. Grow at least an ounce of a fucking backbone already.
Skittles was about PinkiePie licking Dashi because she tasted like lollys. So naturally the first thing that would come to mind when you see a picture of Pinkie licking Dashi is that messed up fanfic.
And it only got as far as kissing, which I don't even counts as saucy.
Seth did the right thing by removing it. Seriously, the people who think stuff like that is "mature" are just complete losers who enjoy jerking off to a little girl's pony cartoon. Quite disgusting and immature in the real world.
I dunno how you get the idea he was trolling. He answered the question that another anon (or was it you? Really, anonymous posting ought to be disabled) asked. How the fuck is that trolling?
@*sigh*Not really. Her answer seemed to simply dismiss that an episode would have baby ponies coming from the sky in a bubble or something like that. The only reason she answered that question was probably because the show wasn't going to address how ponies are born in the first place.
I'm not against tasteful sexual content or even mildy/jokingly implied rape. I might have actually overstated that the comic ruined the episode for me too, because I still watch Over A Barrel regularly and I've mostly gotten over my initial viewing of the comic months ago on DA.
I still think it was a wrong move to put it up here though. Even ignoring my opinion, it's caused far more arguing than the average comic simply because of its content.
Oh jeez, that was the comic? lol Sure, it's suggestive. But welcome to the internet. Especially internet fandoms like this. They aren't for the faint of heart.
No, I really don't think it does. Not that I know what comment you're talking about, but I don't see any lawsuit coming out of posting a NOT PORNOGRAPHIC picture anyway.
Again, what the hell was wrong with his post in the first place? He was answering a question that didn't even pertain to his point of view. He was clarifying a point on someone else's post because some asshole either didn't read it or was just being an ass about it.
Whether your point was valid or not is not the issue at hand here. The issue is that you were outright hypocritical in the delivery of said point. Whitehawk wasn't juvenile in the slightest, and you in turn call him out for being juvenile and insult him.
Are you implying that being gay is wrong or suggestive? I haven't read the fic to know how saucy it gets, but the fact that it's m/m shipping shouldn't be the argument. If you want to argue that all shipping fics should be removed, that's another issue. Not sure where I sit on that argument, but if we allow f/f shipping, m/m should be no problem as well.
Seems like you haven't read that post either. WhiteHawke said this comic will ruin the episode for him. I asked him how could a stupid comic ruin an episode to him, and it's pretty damn obvious why would it "ruin the episode for him". I was asking for what reason would it ruin an episode for him, unless he's 5.

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing that. I hadn't seen her response before regarding their approximate ages. I had always guessed late teens to early twenties, just because they seem to have jobs, but aren't completely mature. ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU
But dang I had to sit through one dang boring speech because of you...
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteNot all of it.
You can't stop me from closing the link! Haha!

ReplyDeleteSeth letting whiners control content is a horrible precedent.

ReplyDeleteP.S. You can still see the image on the rss feed.
The point is that this site is the front Brony's present. We have to keep ourselves somewhat presentable. Its Seth's site and all, but the only reason people reacted like they did is cause they like this site.

Thanks for being great. We still all love you!
I've never complained before, I think you've handled the drawfriends and everything perfectly. Keep on keepin' on!

ReplyDeleteAnyways, that gave me trauma, cupcakes is MILD compared to Clewp
Boo, fucking, hoo. It wasn't really that terrible.
ReplyDeleteNext time give us font size 30, red text and caps lock warning. Maybe then people wont click and go all boohoocommunityruin'd.
Oh, come on. Skittles was infinitely worse than THAT.
ReplyDeleteJust because it's drawn doesn't make it any more saucy than shipping fics... talk about a double standard...
I don't necessarily have a problem with the second comic being posted, but I think it might've been too prominently placed.
ReplyDeleteThis site has other things featuring suggestive material--we've had our fair share of saucy pics in drawfriend--but I think the main difference is that you have to jump through some hoops in order to get to them. Saucy drawfriends are never the headline pics, and they're hidden behind text links without thumbnails.
By contrast, the second comic in this post was prominently featured alongside a perfectly tame comic, with the same size thumbnail, and the only warning it got was plain text in between the two comic links. Arguably my own fault, but I bet there's a lot of other people who do the same thing, and it would've been easily prevented with a text link to the comic instead of a thumbnail.
Seth, I bet if you posted the comic as a saucy pic in the next drawfriend, very few people would complain.
Before it was taken down: comments are all rage at the sauce. Which did have a clear warning. Noobs.
ReplyDeleteAfter it was taken down: People call seth a pussy for taking it down. Again, Noobs.
Seth, whatever you want to do with your blog is fine.
I missed the saucy comic and now I want to see it! Dammit!
ReplyDeleteBrony pride -1.
ReplyDeleteOH SETH LET ME SUCK YOUR DICK
ReplyDeleteYES, NO MORE NSFW PLEASE
OH YOU'RE SO BIG
MAYBE I'LL LICK YOUR ASS TOO
@Not A Good Username 360
ReplyDeleteBeing drawn means younger audience can still see it. With something like Skittles, if they're too young for it, they won't get it. (Sort of like Scootaloo and her review in the "F-Grade drinking game")
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteDamnit dude don't give him any ideas. if people are into that kind of stuff they know where to find it. People need to stop being so lazy
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteDig through the comments; you'll find it :p
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteYeah... freedom of speech is shaky ground to stand on here dude, considering its heavily copyrighted material and Hasbro/Hub and the creators of the show have been VERY, VERY kind with not overly enforcing copyright infringement based on the grounds that this is free advertising for the show and their products, the real money maker.
Soooo... please don't let hasbro throw a hissy fit. it can hurt everyone if bad publicity starts to hurt the shows image and Hasbro decides its not cool.
Anyway, what did people think of the fist comic? I thought it was hilarious.
ReplyDeleteNo need to apologize, Seth.
ReplyDeleteIs it so hard to not post lewd or OC content?
ReplyDeleteIt's apparently hard to run a website when others keep raging at inherently nothing at all.
ReplyDeleteTo Anon 12:50 and Brian...
ReplyDelete>implying this is even porn.
There's content far worse than this, and you know it. Hell, this hardly comes close to the other stuff out here.
But, I'm not one to hate, so I'll step down and let people whine if they want to.
Hasbro will not throw a hissy fit.
ReplyDeletePeriod.
Chill.
Why are we blaming Seth???
ReplyDeleteHe's not the one who submitted it, just because it managed to get past the filter doesn't mean Seth is all to blame.
I -WAS- going to add my two cents to this...
ReplyDelete...but seeing as how people have gotten so FUCKING asshurt from it (on both sides) and that Seth already took the comic down I see no reason to.
Seth like I said before, your the man! It's too bad some ponies had to get all worked up over this as opposed to politely adding they're opinions on the matter. But it happens, human nature unfortunetly.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteAs others have already stated, it is a censored version of a pornographic comic. Censored porn is still porn.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteThe funny part is, people are screaming profanities because of something that was rude.
@Matrilwood And to a younger viewer, what would that CENSORED fic look like?
ReplyDeleteSeriously think about it. Pretend you don't know about THAT.
No worse than shipping fics. I stand by that statement.
@fagbutts
ReplyDeleteWell the insults were uncalled for.
People are free to disagree.
this whole issue was very
ReplyDeleteVERY
stupid.
Everyone responding to this situation is bad and should feel bad. I know I do.
WUSS
ReplyDeleteThere's a lot of anger going around about this. I think everyone should step back, have a snack, and then think about what they have to say before posting it. It's too easy to respond rapidly to your emotions on the internet.
ReplyDeleteGood call on the removal, Seth, & thanks.
ReplyDeleteIf this is how bronies behave in stressful situations, I'm not sure I want to be a brony anymore.
ReplyDelete@Brian
ReplyDeleteUncensored one isn't even porn. It just has wet marks around the tongues and Pinkie going further in that blacked panel.
Far from porn, but your opinion is your own.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeletewhy do you care how you reflect? you watch a show for little girls, of course there is stigma, but then you act like lil bitch niggas bawlin your eyes out over what is frankly a light comic. It's embarassing, i'd rather be lumped in with the pornfuckers than with pussyhole kids who cant take the slightest chance of being seen for what, let's be honest, we really are.
Never got to see the second one. :(
ReplyDeleteAs for the first one, I want a deck of cards JUST like that.

Fucking hell. So much for love and tolerance, eh? I understand you taking it down though, Seth. Anything to shut up the whiny assholes who decided they know better than you about your own blog.

@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteHe keeps the site alive don't he?
@Matrilwood
ReplyDelete"If this is how bronies behave in stressful situations, I'm not sure I want to be a brony anymore."
Eh, this isn't anything new. A certain small contingent of the fanbase screams bloody murder anytime anything remotely adult-themed gets posted.
Overreacting to that is just as silly as the overreaction itself.
Why are people defending the second comic? Honestly, I really want to know some people's reasons for it.
ReplyDelete@Brian
ReplyDeleteNo, the original wasn't porn either, it was just a dirty joke, that's it.
That second comic wasn't that bad.
ReplyDelete...
Then again, I DID laugh hysterically at Cupcakes. Twice.
Ah. Saw you took it down. Brony pride +2. Thanks Seth.
ReplyDeleteAs an online community organizer myself (running a club of tens of thousands of members on DeviantArt), I know that the community's feedback is important, and it makes me glad to see you care enough about your own blog to allow the collective masses who congregate here voice themselves and be listened to.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteDefending the artist's right to draw the comic, and have it featured.
Defending Seth's right to post whatever the hell he wants.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeletewow yur hardcore bro how can i be cool lik yu?
@Anonymous
ReplyDelete"Why are people defending the second comic? Honestly, I really want to know some people's reasons for it."
Because I'm not a Puritanical manchild who is both scared to death of sex and oppressive enough to want my opinion enforced on others.
I don't care for some things that get posted on this site. Guess what happens? I skip it and go about my day. I don't flip my shit.
>Other comic was a bit saucy.
ReplyDeleteAT LEAST THROW UP A LINK TO IT MAN!
@Bosstone
ReplyDeleteAnd to those people it's called "Welcome to the internet"
@Sethisto
ReplyDeleteThank you for doing that. Honestyly, I didn't even notice the warning until after I saw a comment that said there was a warning. ^_^" All I have to say is next time, make the warning more prominent. If that's done, I think there will be a lot less rage.
So much rage in the comments. I don't see why it's such an issue. Like Cupcakes or Skittles doesn't "cross the line" like comic #2 does?
ReplyDelete@David
ReplyDeleteThis.
I also find it odd that some people chastise Seth for listening to the community, yet praise Hasbro for doing the same thing.
@David
ReplyDeleteHear, Hear!
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteThis
@Bosstone
ReplyDeleteYou're flipping your shit right now, bro. Chill.
Well, I have been reading these comments, and i'm glad that I missed out on the second comic.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteDude asked for reasons. I gave them. What's freaked about that?
@Bosstone
ReplyDeleteIt's not really very cool or convincing to try to marginalize an opinion that disagrees with your own by attacking the person who wrote it with comments like "puritanical manchild" etc.
It's a question of accessibility; some content just doesn't want to be seen by a substantial portion of the community, and the experience is better for everyone if that partially undesired content is not prominent.
Overreacting to the content was silly, but insulting people for not wanting to see it is unnecessary.
I luv /co/.
ReplyDeleteDo you, Seth?
Anonymous 07/27/11(Wed)15:50 No.28114674
>>28114618
Now Sethisto removed the comic and now everyone is sucking his cock and praising him because he saved the image of the fandom.
Hehehe.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteBecause it's unusual for a COMPANY to listen to its audience and take note of them. They are going outside the norm in a good way.
But Sethisto, as one person, shouldn't allow himself to become influenced by EqDaily's audience because if that happens, chaos ensues from wavering opinions clashing and inter-brony wars starting.
Also? LOL internet noobs.
@Anonymous
ReplyDelete"Overreacting to the content was silly, but insulting people for not wanting to see it is unnecessary."
The Trixie comic is kinda cute. She would have a deck of cards with her face on every one.
ReplyDelete@Sethisto
ReplyDeleteThanks Seth, I think you made the right decision.
I didn't actually see the comic, but I don't think I would've raged about it like a few other commenters have. However, I think that as the blog is pretty much the most well-known face of the fandom, we should try to keep it as clean as possible for the sake of our collective reputation
@Sethisto
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteThis would only be a valid counterpoint if people were actually forced to see it. This is a case of "I not only don't want to see it, but no one else should even be able to see it either."
@Bosstone
ReplyDeleteI think it's just because of how happy and wholesome the show is, I get way more bothered about this type of internet shenanigans when it applies to MLP than most other stuff.

Hear hear Bosstone. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean you have the right to force others to fit your own notions of what's "right."
ReplyDeleteAlso? I've seen that comic before, and I laughed.
Hey, its gone! :)
ReplyDeleteI do know that such images exists in ALL fandoms.
Allow me to summarize:
ReplyDeletePeople who didn't like the comic:
"BAWWWWWWW you shouldn't post that kind of stuff on this site!"
People who did:
"Seth has the freedom to post whatever he wants! You, however, do not have the freedom to voice your opinion of the stuff he posts!"
Lucky, I've found a way to feel superior to both ;)
I don't really get why people are upset, the comic wasn't that bad!
ReplyDeleteI mean Trixie did cheat at her magic trick and that spreads a bad message, especially if kids saw it, but I think we can let that kind of thing slip this once....
@Tears of a Valedictorian
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I think "Saucy!" works pretty well for that.
ReplyDeleteI am particular curious to those last 2.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteI lol'd.
Just saw the comic, it seemed ridiculously tame compared to everything else you can find out there.
ReplyDeleteThe war is over, decided in the favor of the Revolution. However, those loyal to Sethisto XVI, if he desires their loyalty or not, fight on.
ReplyDeleteWow. I'm so amazed. Too amazed
ReplyDelete@*sigh*
ReplyDeleteI don't see a difference.
He hear you good, Anon.
ReplyDelete@Matrilwood
ReplyDeleteNot sure if serious.
@Matrilwood
ReplyDeleteHentai? You're kidding, right? That was some of the tamest... I don't even know how to reply to this. The stupidity of your words have made mine leave me. Thanks a lot.
When I saw a few hours ago that TheXxxX said on his DA he'd emailed the comic to Seth, I was bracing myself for the shitstorm if it got posted. And sure enough.
ReplyDeleteMy opinion is irrelevant, but I personally didn't have a problem with the comic itself.
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete@*sigh*
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't exactly tame, you do realise what was going on right?
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to hear the voices of reason when so many from both sides are screaming.
Of all the posts on this entire website as of late, Dave Mustang chooses to not comment on this one?
ReplyDelete@TenchiFreak5
ReplyDeleteI guess it's the moderator in me speaking, when ever there is a PR Crisis I get mighty curious.
@Bosstone
ReplyDeleteNobody is claiming that "nobody else should be able to see it either." People are free to view those kinds of images on sites dedicated to hosting them.
It brings warmth to my heart seeing Seth being pointed out as the idiot he is.
ReplyDeleteEven better to see he is basically doing it himself.
An almighty idiot indeed.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I've never been more pissed off at a single group of people. You really are acting like the weenies that the pony-haters say we are.
@Matrilwood
ReplyDelete"along with the steps that will be taken to ensure it does not happen again."
This is just downright funny.
>Post Censored Clop
ReplyDelete>Virgin Butthurt Ensues
Yep, So glad to be a part of a MANLY community. >_>
@TenchiFreak5
ReplyDeleteRemoving from EQD isn't preventing anyone from seeing it. In fact, people can still quite readily see it here: (censored)
http://thexxxx.deviantart.com/#/d41snz0
and here: (uncensored)
http://thexxxx.deviantart.com/#/d41pgi3
What people are saying is that they don't want it on Equestria Daily. Throwing around straw man arguments aren't making those of us who do want to see it here look very good.
@*sigh*
ReplyDeleteVery true.
@Bosstone
ReplyDeleteSeth allows grimdark stories but he doesn't allow porn.
He posts borderline comic and the people thought it was too much this time.
It had nothing to do with preventing someone to like something they like.
Both cases look identical to outside but the motive of the whining is different.
@Bosstone
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, it is my fault that I clicked it, I underestimated the saucy.
But if there was an EXTRA SAUCY! marking, or a 'no means no' Trixie icon or something for the more intense stuff, every one of the people who whined on here would lose the right to do so :)
@Matrilwood
ReplyDeleteDude.
@Matrilwood
ReplyDeletePublic apology from Seth?
Are you fucking serious?
Maybe you should apologise to Seth for shitting up this blog with "I'm 12 and what is this" comments?
@Anonymous
ReplyDelete"The other side simply felt that that kind of pic isn't appropriate for THIS site."
Well, this time around Seth appears to agree, so I can't really argue that. But my tendency is to want to leave that decision up to Seth, since as I said before it's his judgment that helped make this site so popular.
Shall we lobby to get rid of all the grimdark fics too?
@Bosstone
ReplyDelete"During a PR Crisis, one must take all steps to calm reassure the public. There is no such thing as too much solid reassurance during a PR Crisis."
Or something along those lines. Read some books on Business Management.
You all are little children and I gotta say I've never been ashamed of the brony community until now...thanks for that guys....ya' darn pricks
ReplyDeleteitt: trolls trolling trolls trolling newfags
ReplyDelete@*sigh*
ReplyDeleteJust because our definitions of Hentai are different doesn't mean you have to be a jerk about it. Can we please remain civil about this. No need to start another argument.
@Matrilwood
ReplyDeleteI know, and that's what makes it so funny! I've heard those exact words from my customers and my boss on occasion.
If you try to make the argument that you are either of those to this site, I'm going to keep laughing.
God damn, some of you people take this stuff too seriously.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteIts not a strawman if people are actually acting that way.
You know what the problem was in the first place? It was PinkieDash. Everyone knows Dash is the straightest pony.
ReplyDeletePinkie is pansexual so it doesn't matter who she's with.
@TenchiFreak5 Strawman has a point.
ReplyDelete@Matrilwood
ReplyDeleteI'm not the one throwing around scare words.
@Bosstone
ReplyDeleteSorry, I'm so used to these sorts of situations that I immediately assume someone is having a go at me if they talk to me.
Also Cupcakes is aloud on here and that describes mutilation but people complain about this making the site not family friendly....community I am dissapoint...so damn dissapoint...
ReplyDeleteLet's impeach Seth and put Leth in charge of the blog.
ReplyDeleteHe's more level-headed, plus isn't into shipping or Trixie.
>this site is the face of the community
ReplyDelete>let's all act like a bunch of pussies
Stay classy, conservafags
@*sigh*
ReplyDeleteSo now you're having a go at the way I talk? Just stop.
@Matrilwood
ReplyDeleteOh my God. There is no "my definition of hentai." Hentai is porn. This was not porn. Not in the slightest. It implied sex, but so have many other images/fanfics and nobody caused a shitstorm over those.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteAnd that point is? Because other than "save the children" I don't see much of one being parroted around.
@Bosstone
ReplyDeleteI agree that it should be ultimately Seth's decision.
@Matrilwood
ReplyDeleteWhat? So now I can't point out the logical fallacies you are making when you talk? How else will I reveal the fact that you're using scare tactics to get people on your side?
@Matrilwood
ReplyDeleteDry your eyes sweetie, sometimes you're just wrong.
@Nick
ReplyDeleteWho knows.
@Matrilwood
ReplyDeleteI'm not having a go at you.
Snails and snips got derped pretty badly.
ReplyDeleteI like the part where people disagreed...
ReplyDelete@*sigh*
ReplyDeleteSide?!?! WOAH WOAH WOAH!!! Let's get one thing strait here, RIGHT NOW. I do not take SIDES... EVER!!!
If it seemed like I was taking sides, I apologise.
First comic isn't too bad.
ReplyDeleteThe second (Already removed) one, though is way inappropriate, BUT not just because it's saucy, in my opinion.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteI also liked the part where people called each other horrible things because they disagreed... welcome to the internet, I suppose.
ReplyDeleteFor example, smashboards might be heavily competitive, it's still technically about a kids' game and strictly prohibits swearing. Equestria Daily is much more likely to be found, by even more innocent kids, and yet it should show things like this or Skittles on the front page with a cute drawing ?
@WhiteHawke
ReplyDeletewhy would a dumb comic ruin an episode for you?
does not compute
@WhiteHawke
ReplyDeleteI suppose that Fausts comment on how ponies reproduced must have really ruined your day then, no?
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteI like how everyone is thinking of Skittles. Just goes to show how spontaneous they are, using the first shipping fanfic that comes to mind, even though there is a whole range of saucy and grimdark to choose from.
Oh boy Oh boy seth. Bit submissive, aren't we?
ReplyDelete@*sigh*
ReplyDeleteWhen did she discuss that? Was that on her DA page or something? I'm surprised she even respond to such a question. Props to her for doing so though.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteBecause the scene would remind him of this comic or can't you read?
Sometimes I forget that this is the internet. Thankfully, this comment section has reminded me.
ReplyDelete@Matrilwood
ReplyDeleteSkittles was fairly recent, so of course they'd use it as an example. Also, from what I've heard, it was pretty borderline as well, so it's a good example to use.
"And that's how ponies are made!"
ReplyDeleteOh, by the way, while literally every fandom has this kind of stuff, it's ALWAYS kept away from the main sites, and you ALWAYS have to either look for it or visit "unsafe" places to find it.
ReplyDeleteI believe we all know the one exception to this rule, and its violation is probably the main reason why this community has such a bad (probably undeserved) reputation. That's what destroyed this fandom, we definitely don't want the same thing happening to us.
I'm glad Seth understands his responsibility, even though he didn't ask for it. That's the burden of popularity ;)
Ugh, hold on, let me find it.
ReplyDelete...

Alright, found it!

@WhiteHawke
ReplyDeleteMy gods man can how juvenile can you be? It's a relatively tame censored version of a non-canon fantasy poking fun at a scene from another fantasy. Grow at least an ounce of a fucking backbone already.
well thats that seth. You are ponychans bitch and this is ponychan's newsblog. complete with RP, OCs, bitchy kids and irrelevant nonsense.
ReplyDeleteGood job
@Nick
ReplyDeleteSkittles was about PinkiePie licking Dashi because she tasted like lollys. So naturally the first thing that would come to mind when you see a picture of Pinkie licking Dashi is that messed up fanfic.
And it only got as far as kissing, which I don't even counts as saucy.
Had Seth kept the comic up, perhaps it would have driven away all the autistic ponychan hugboxers. And nothing of value would have been lost.
ReplyDelete@*sigh*
ReplyDeleteThank you. Appreciated.
@Matrilwood
ReplyDeleteLike I said: from what I heard. I have waaay too many fics on my 'to read' list so I haven't gotten around to reading Skittles yet.
That second comic was awesome XD
ReplyDeleteI'm glad somepony else here had a link to #2. I don't see what all the bitching's about, you're really going to flame a random comic?
ReplyDeleteSeth caved in to the commenters?
ReplyDeleteSETH, TAKE DOWN THE TRIXIE DETECTIVE POSTS. THEY'RE STUPID AND ANNOYING. LOL
Em, so anyone have a link to the saucy comics? I didn't catch it in time.
ReplyDelete@Icehawk
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, he sounds far mature than your behaving towards him. "Grow at least an ounce of a fucking backbone already."?
And you call him juvenile?

ReplyDeleteOh so now you want to see the damn thing? After flaming about it being there?
ReplyDeleteOk, they're all different people, but still.
@Brian
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you fuck off brian, you hugboxing piece of shit
Em, second comics was kinda funny. No porn, nothing. You guys went too soft.
ReplyDelete@Brian
ReplyDeleteNot sure if trolling or just very stupid.
There's porn of people putting bananas in their anus.
Oh no, now I can't eat bananas because it will always remind me of that scene!
Kill yourself.
This must be what Congress is like. Wait... are any of you Congressmen? Get back to work on fixing the debt crisis!
ReplyDeleteSeth did the right thing by removing it. Seriously, the people who think stuff like that is "mature" are just complete losers who enjoy jerking off to a little girl's pony cartoon. Quite disgusting and immature in the real world.
ReplyDeleteAww, seems like I missed something good. lol Though I have probably already seen it anyway. Whatever comic it was.
ReplyDeleteAnd of course Trixie's deck would all have pics of herself on them.
@Matrilwood
ReplyDeleteWell yeah. Not everyone wanted it down. I'd honestly be willing to bet it was only a vocal minority complaining.
@Anonymous
Brian's perfectly in line. He's entitled to his own opinion. Stop being an unwarranted asshole.
Can we please not start another argument?
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteI dunno how you get the idea he was trolling. He answered the question that another anon (or was it you? Really, anonymous posting ought to be disabled) asked. How the fuck is that trolling?
@Matrilwood
ReplyDeleteWho's starting an argument?
TRIXIE , HOW YOU CAN DO THAT????
ReplyDelete@*sigh*Not really. Her answer seemed to simply dismiss that an episode would have baby ponies coming from the sky in a bubble or something like that.
ReplyDeleteThe only reason she answered that question was probably because the show wasn't going to address how ponies are born in the first place.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteNo, no, no. In Congress, your wealthy corporate/lobbyist overlords pay you for what you say.
RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE
ReplyDeletehere, I've saved you some time on reading 400-comment thread.
@greydragon412
ReplyDeleteOh jeez, that was the comic? lol Sure, it's suggestive. But welcome to the internet. Especially internet fandoms like this. They aren't for the faint of heart.
@Nick
ReplyDeleteI can see why it was taken down. (Not to mention the comment about a Lawsuit sounds pretty persuasive)
@Nick
ReplyDeleteI wasn't saying he was trolling.
I was hoping he was trolling.
People have there own point of view, and can be effected by things in out of the ordinary ways.
ReplyDelete@ShadowCell
ReplyDeleteAh, that's right. My mistake. Whatever corporate overlord is backing John Boehner must be saying some very hurtful things though. He's always crying.
Gay-horses shipping story - "ok, move along"
ReplyDeleteBlack-screen-censored suggestive comic - "OH MY GOD THIS IS A FAMILY FRIENDLY WEBSITE TAKE IT DOWN!!!"
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete@Matrilwood
ReplyDeleteNo, I really don't think it does. Not that I know what comment you're talking about, but I don't see any lawsuit coming out of posting a NOT PORNOGRAPHIC picture anyway.
@Anonymous
Again, what the hell was wrong with his post in the first place? He was answering a question that didn't even pertain to his point of view. He was clarifying a point on someone else's post because some asshole either didn't read it or was just being an ass about it.
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteI love how people are complaining about the comic (Or what ever the hell you want to call it) 2 hours after it was removed.
OH MA GOD JESUS THE SECOND COMIC WAS SUGGESTIVE!!! WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGood thing I got to see it before it was removed.
@Brian
ReplyDeleteYes I do, because the point I made is perfectly valid. You'd do better to address that next time rather than acting trying to play net nanny.
@Matrilwood Now people are complaining about it being removed.
ReplyDelete@Icehawk
ReplyDeleteWhether your point was valid or not is not the issue at hand here. The issue is that you were outright hypocritical in the delivery of said point. Whitehawk wasn't juvenile in the slightest, and you in turn call him out for being juvenile and insult him.
Hypocrisy, pure and simple.
> Its a family-friendly website.
ReplyDeleteI would suggest you check out the comments under pony-panties post below.
@Nick
ReplyDeleteErm...
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteAre you implying that being gay is wrong or suggestive? I haven't read the fic to know how saucy it gets, but the fact that it's m/m shipping shouldn't be the argument. If you want to argue that all shipping fics should be removed, that's another issue. Not sure where I sit on that argument, but if we allow f/f shipping, m/m should be no problem as well.
Hey
ReplyDeleteHey guys
Why don't we
Guys listen
Why don't we all just leave this alone and move on, hm?
@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteI'm bored and drama passes the time. XD
@Nick
ReplyDeleteSeems like you haven't read that post either.
WhiteHawke said this comic will ruin the episode for him.
I asked him how could a stupid comic ruin an episode to him, and it's pretty damn obvious why would it "ruin the episode for him".
I was asking for what reason would it ruin an episode for him, unless he's 5.
