This is ponychan though! And stuff like this tends to spark.. things. A new contest has popped up.
The general premise is to draw/photoship/animate Fluttershy into a half pony, half fly, abomination. That's right! The most loved character in the show is apparently lacking insectoid features.
But why would you take part in such a crime against nature?
Well, the person running the competition is so psyched about turning our cute little nature lover into a demonic ponybeast, that they are offering the rare, Fluttershy blind bag toy to the winner.

I heard about this a while ago, some of the things that it has spawned are truly terrifying. Go look at the comic that has Shutterfly sucking the moist sweat from Twilight and you'll see what I mean.
First I was like lolwut that's just plain creepy but then I was like meh why not.

Shutterfly? Why can't we just have Fluttershy flying around with one of those shutter-cameras, taking pictures of cute things? That would be preferable to those monsters that they're creating.

I'm I the only one who dislikes the Fluttershy blind bag toy? I mean, her hair compared to what she really looks like is just...ugh...not that I'm not going to try and get it(I'd like to start a collection after all).

The really funny thing here is that the character Fluttershy was originally named as an intentional play on the term "shutterfly", which means a photography enthusiast. The G3 version of Fluttershy was an earth pony who wasn't particularly shy or anything, she just liked to take photos of her friends.

I always preferred the fan idea that Shutterfly was the name of the paparazzi pegasus trying to take Fluttershy's picture in Green Isn't Your Color.

In my fan fiction I had Twilight recommending 'The Fly' to Dash for her to read, I even planed on having her have a nightmare were Twilight is half Parasprite, do to a teleportation spell gone wrong...now I will have to make it FLuttershy instead hehehe

To me, this contest isn't so much about "turn Fluttershy into a monster" so much as "if something happened had drastically altered Fluttershy's appearance (and maybe habits) to horrendous results, would you still love her?" Kinda sorta like when your paranoid girlfriend keeps asking you "if XYZ happened to me, would you still love me?"
Do you guys even know what shutterfly means? By any chance ya DON'T know where Fluttershy's name came from? God, I'm not as big a fan as most of you guys and even I knew that!
I think it'd be a bit more accurate to call that a Flutterfly. Shutterfly is probably Fluttershy taking pictures of everything or whatever.

Why would you SAY that? And, anyway, wouldn't THAT wake somebody up? So, it's hard to say that you'd be doing it to them in their sleep.
ANYWAYS, to the main point, there is something good coming out of this: at least we know that "somebody appropriate" there is getting notified of "interest". I wonder what the toy side of the business makes of the older fans, like, uh. You know. Us.

I don't know whether I should be amused by or raise eyebrows at the majority of the squeamish comments here; the overall viewpoint of what I'm getting from 'em is, "I would only love Fluttershy until some freak incident happened which made her body undergo a horrifying transformation."

Still, like I said earlier, (I was 6/22/2011 11:50 PM Anon), this contest ain't about making a monster outta Fluttershy. It's more about how far an artist would go with the details in portraying a cross between Fluttershy and a fly while STILL being able to love her just the same.
I ain't saying you gotta participate in, or even like the contest, but I am saying that we love Fluttershy very much, no matter what would happen to her. Personally, I hope NONE of these transformations would seriously happen to her... though after seeing what Lauren Faust and her team have done with the show already, I'm sure they could make it work if it were a temporary condition. :oP
@DareDreamer That blind bag toy looks like a Rainbow Dash I have, same pose, same hair. A different colour of injection plastic and a paint job perhaps? I agree, I'd prefer one that matches her appearance in the show.

Ya know, a couple of months ago, I was in Best Buy, looking at computers. There was this photo album sign labeled 'Shutterfly'. Obviously, I made the comment about switching a certain two letters and laughed away.
... Yeah, didn't see this coming.
i do believe i`ve seen a comic about the "flutterfly" theme quite awhile back, as in long before this happened, and it wasn`t half as bad as you may fear. if i remember right the excuse was the occasional "spell gone wrong by twilight"

The comic by Hipster Pony, you talk about, was among the first entries.
