• Symphonic Pony Music Album

Another music brony is on the scene, this time with a whole slew of symphonic numbers for those that are sick of all the techno/electronic stuff. (even though all the techno/electronic is awesome)

There are some really good tracks on this one, and it's all inspired by Lyra/Octavia.

Considering the fact that Lyra is the best pony, that instantly makes the entire album a hit.

You can find the entire thing on bandcamp!

    8. In my opinion I prefer techno, but this is still a very well made album. Just by the first two tracks, I know I'm going to listen to this many times before my headphones melt from to much Lyra.

    9. Octavia is awesome.
Lyra is about 20% more awesome.

      Octavia + Lyra == ???

    12. I'm a big big fan of Track number 4 from that. Lovely stuff.

Myself, I'm wishywashy between Applejack, and Lyra. To me, they're both best ponies!

Damnit Seth, so you weren't srs when you said Pinkie was best pony? Or you aren't srs right now? I'm going with the latter, because who can honestly believe a pony with no lines is the best.

    14. Major band geekgasm from this. Also the world needs more music with the glass harp, it's a hauntingly beautiful instrument.

    17. I've always loved orchestral music, so this is great for me. I loved all the tracks, so this is going straight onto my iPod.

      Pfffft.
      Nice quick fix there:P

    19. I think Sethisto has taken to calling everypony the best pony as a way of trolling us. It's his way of getting back at us for bitching about Trixie.

    20. Well made, but I'm of course going to go off-topic here and say WHOOOO! We're almost 10 million hits! I'm popping the champagne, regardless of whether or not I own any!

    22. I prefer a well-made orchestral/symphonic/etc piece to a thrashy, if exciting, technomix any day of the week. I can more easily leave the music playing in the background and still enjoy the emotion of it without being distracted from other things.

    23. The waltz is really beautiful. Almost haunting, in that way that slow beautiful pieces are.

    24. out of curiosity... What is Bon Bon doing in that picture? lol

Anyway, I'll have to check this out. Funny how things can change so drastically with different touches...

She is playing the Glass Harp an instrument constructed of crystal wine glasses tuned to notes with specific amounts of water in them. When you rub around the top a tone is emitted.

      ReplyDelete
    26. @Star GazerShe's playing the primitive version of the glass armonica.

    27. I don't really get it. Is it like an opera or something? Am I supposed to associate the songs with certain things? Is the music inspired by music in the show? What is going on here?

It's music, you're supposed to listen and enjoy.

    29. Hahahaha, that album cover is the best. Especially bon bon.

    30. I love all the electronica out there, but this was a nice change of pace. Plus, I've been on a bit of a Lyra and Bon Bon kick lately.

    31. I like the feeling i get when i listen to orchestral music, it just feels...nice.

    32. The album cover got me excited but then I heard it was more midi/synth keyboard stuff and I didn't care anymore. Not saying z0rg is bad but I prefer real string instruments.

    33. This is fantastic. Love Act 4; that is orchestral genius. I would love to hear this performed by an actual orchestra.

Pretty good shift from all of the electronic stuff floating around, I must say. :D

    35. Just a thought, on the second half of the first track, it would be really cool if that lyre played out-of-time, to create even more of an offset between the sparkly high stuff and the melody that comes in in the bass. I'm personally a huge fan of aleatoric elements in music, and it seemed like the perfect chance there to do something like that.

It sounds pretty good, all things aside. Some interesting harmonies (and this is coming from somepony who gets bored of conventional harmony /very/ quickly) and I think it succeeded in delivering whatever mood each piece was supposed to deliver. My only problem with it is that it doesn't really go anywhere. It might be the synths not picking up on the little nuances a human player would, but a lot of those pieces tend to just sit there and not really move forward. It would help if you developed those themes more instead of just presenting most of them and then moving on.

Seeing as how there are very few Bronies who actually have an orchestra at their disposal, I'm not sure why you were expecting any different.

    39. I think Bon-Bon is the best pony...

    40. Though the music is nice, I don't see much of a connection between this and MLP aside from the cover art. Seems like a way to self promote by means of adding something popular on the cover.

For it to really be here it should be like Eurobeat Brony that has pony themed songs (even if he uses it to self promote himself).

    41. @Shidoshi

Let me try to tackle your concerns, allright?

First, while i really didn't specify the story i based the song on, i think i should at this point. It's this one: http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/03/story-lyras-melody-of-home.html
It's like an origin story; you could regard the music as background music for the characters in it, which was my intention. (The story's and the music's endings went different ways though, which i stated on the bandcamp page)
      in short, inspired by pony.

Eurobeat Brony's mlp related tracks were (mostly, iirc) remixes of songs that were in the show.

On the other hand, iamnotacleverpony made original tracks too, inspired by Luna, for example.

Lastly, sure, i won't deny that i'm happy that many people listen to the songs, but only because i like to make music, and that others can listen to it, and react either negatively (and hopefully, in a constructive manner), or positively.

Hope i cleared things up. :3

These are all very nice, but could do with some better quality sound libraries.
You might could try some of these. If you're loaded enough to purchase a full package, you'll have an entire symphony at your fingertips.

      LA Scoring Strings
      Symphobia
      Vienna Symphonic Library

I might also suggest Project Sam Truestrike 1 and 2.
