Wow it's so accurate. Hasbro, take all of my money.
And remember, rainbow dash always dresses in style.
It has the mane six!!!! I must get it
That is definitely not representative of the dresses on the show, but Spike's bow is worth it alone.
lol I like Spike's bow tie.
wwwwat the..?lol'd @ spike
On Ponychan this was posted as a "you rage you lose". I lost.
I understand now guys, Hasbro is trolling us.
If Rarity saw this, one of two things would happen:a) she sees those horrible THINGS that are claimed to be dresses and faints on the spot.b) she sees those horrible THINGS that are claimed to be HER dresses, snaps, and stylishly and brutally murders everyone who works at Hasbro. here's hoping for b)
I like Applejack's dressMmhmm, Suits her plenty well.
Does Hasbro even watch the show?
wait now ... wait .... that just says royal ball set, not gala ;P
To be fair to Hasbro, some of the designs of the gala dresses are a little more intricate and therefore probably a little harder to mass produce.
Aww come on, did they even look at the original designs? They should have at least matched the colors.
Whatisthisidonteven.jpg Spike in a bow tie...how precious.
And yet, as a closet brony, this represents my best chance to have figures of the mane cast. Buying one toy for 'my cousin' is doable. Buying a plethora of odds and ends and trying to pass it off as such? Not so much. My main concern would be if they have their cutie marks under those rain tarps they're wearing (because I am NOT going to force those poor ponies to wear them for one minute longer than I have to).
At the Gala! I will buy them! Every single o~one!I will get them all together at the Gala! (At the Gala)Twilight Sparkle! And Pinkie! And Rainbow Dash as well! And all the rest will be there at the Gala! (At the Gala)I could re-write the lyrics to the whole song, but I got bored and these ones are kinda lame anyway. xDAnd Spike has such an... interesting mold. Though admittedly, he looks a lot more like a "baby" than his animation counterpart.~Dark~
sereously hasbro you are not a bro you need to chnge your name to hasdumbshit
*Sigh*I... I still want it.
*looks at the picture again*I'm going to pretend I didn't actually see the ponies like I somehow managed the first time I looked at it.Wtf are they wearing? Nightgowns made of raintarp?~Dark~
GOD DAMNIT HASHIT DO IT RITE U FOALZ
i'd buy it... just for the bow tie wearing spike o_o
Yo Hasbro, I'm real happy for you, and Imma let you finish. But McDonalds still has the most accurate looking G4 Ponies (and that's... pretty sad)Also, completely offtopic: I FINALLY get all those portal 2 references :') Just finisehd it.
This deserves a Flutershy dress rant for how poorly those, I want to call them something but dresses is to nice a word, look.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0h2jbzoyNhk
At the Hasbro! We will make them! All these terrible terrible toys! We will will alienate our brony fanbase here at the fail Hasbro! (At the Hasbro!)
@Matva:"Must finish Portal 2!" Matva said."But Matva, you HAVE finished Portal 2!" Luna said. And then Matva was in space.SPAAAAAAAAAACCCCCEEEEEWith Luna.LLUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNAAAAA
Well... I guess their mane colors at least match now.And I believe Spike did wear a pink bow tie to the gala.Still the eye colors are inaccurate, Spike is supposed to be standing on just his back feet, have you ever seen him standing on all fours in the show? The dress colors don't even match, Applejack is still hatless, the mane styles should be different, and the models need to be about 20% cooler. That sums it up, nao fix it!
Is it just me, or is Applejack's mane purple?
@Display NameSPAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!!!! With Luna? :D Now THAT would be sweet :p
Wait, never mind. It was rarity's
They know we exist, they better clean up, and stop making shit. The least they could do is give them their fucking dresses. We shouldn’t take this anymore! We need to stop this!NO MORE PINK CELESTIA,NO MORE RECOLORS. What the fuck do they take us for?
Well at least it's not marketed as "The Grand Galloping Gala" but rather "Royal Ball At Canterlot Castle" so we can only assume this is a playset that depicts another party they went to where they were forced to wear tarps, or maybe it's a costume party and they all decided to come dressed as SHIT
I've been behind most of Hasbros G4 line so far but yeah.... this is lazy even for them.
They didn't even try to make them look accurate. Dash's dress fits her the least. A pink skirt isn't something she'd wear without being forced to.
They didn't even try
1. Set up new cartoon channel joint venture to challenge Disney 2. Spend millions creating reboot of eighties cartoon property3. Allow free distribution of show across internet and tv as loss-leader to drive toy sales4. Toy-wise, sell only whatever plastic models are left lying around Hasbro HQ from 1981, dressed in whatever can be scavenged from nearby textile shops5. ??6. Profit!
So it looks like Pinkie is wearing an approximation of Twilight's dress, Twilight is wearing an approximation of Fluttershy's, and I have no idea what the rest of them are wearing.
@Tears of a valedictorianThis.
I mean, surely even five year olds must be able to tell this is pretty weak.
Remember, everybody: Hasbro toys ≠ Friendship Is Magic.
I was smart enough when I was 3 to look at shit like this and dismiss it. We need to take action.
Ooh~ Another coolio set<3 When are these coming to Target, my goodness. DX
Well, while these toys are definitely sub par remember everyone that it actually takes awhile to design new toys. Hasbro does know about us as both the show staff and the Hub have acknowledged us as well as the official MLP Facebook page now that they have linked the Wired article. Let's hold our wrath against Hasbro till season two and if they don't deliver THEN we can burn down Hasbro headquarters.:)
I think it's great that hasbro is trying, but first it needs to fix the models (and moulded rubber costumes would probably look better).
It's Hasbro, they're only selling to the audience the toys have been intended for since the 80s. I wouldn't be surprised if we never got show accurate figures.
^Oh, but the gift set with Twi, AJ, PP, Spike, and Celestia was decent, sans pink Celestia
They just didn't care.
I can easily overlook the dresses - Rarity's work *is* kind of hard to replicate in mass-production - but those bobbleheaded sculpts just suck. IIRC, the older versions, for all their other flaws, weren't hydrocephalic.
Well... at least they got Spike right... right?
Rarity would NOT approve.
I learned something, Applejack wearing pink throws me off, i mean i stared at the picture for 10 mintues and only now realized that was her
Is Rainbow Dash wearing a flower...?A FLOWER!THIS IS A DISGRACE TO ALL PONYKIND!
>insist creator include a 'fashion element' for merchandising>utterly fail to merchandise said fashion elementGG Hasbro.Of course, they'd probably need bigger ponies to even attempt the proper dresses...when'd they get tiny anyway?
Applejack: They sure are... uh... somethin'!Twilight: YES! Something!Pinkie: I love 'something'! 'Something' is my favorite.Fluttershy: It's... nice. >_>
MLP TOYSY U NO ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE THE PONIES?
Rarity is not amused. Neither am I, or the rest of the community for that matter. Seriously, is making attachable hard plastic molds so hard to do instead of cloth? In my opinion that'd probably be easier for them to make and be more accurate.
@AnonymousI doubt that, look at the Japanese and their ability to pump out perfectly accurate representations of much more complex designs in much shorter periods of time than half a year. I just think it screams incompetence and unwillingness to care.
God damn if Hasbro released a $100 Gala set with the actual dresses they would get so rich
The more I see of this toy line, the more I'm convinced that the show's success was an accident. Management must not have been paying attention when Faust told her staff to do it right. All they're focused on is selling $0.30 toys for $6.00 each. A nice markup if you can find people stupid enough to swallow it. This, incidentally, explains the pre-FiM target audience.
@AnonymousYa know what? No. That was my line months ago. They've had their time. The show's been on the air for eight months, and they've had access to the scripts, concept sketches, and so on for a hell of a lot longer than that. The models only vaguely match the show in the first place, and every release just further confirms that they have no intention of giving two loose shits.
At least they got the color of two dresses right.
Well, at least it's something!
What in the hay is Applejack wearing?
RAINBOW DASH ALWAYS DRESSES IN STYLE
I'm torn. On one hand, they don't look like the show, on the other hand AT THE GALA, AT THE GALA.Methinks this will be a nice prize for a later BYF tourney. NOT THAT THERE ARE ANY CONFIRMED OR ANYTHING *looks around*
That's... not Twilight. That's some lavender pony with a pink, aqua, blue, and purple mane. Twi's mane hasn't been that far off-model in any toy so far.
They look like their wearing those cloths to keep your hair off of you when your getting it cut...
Excuse me I'm gonna go cry now....WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM HASBRO! D<
Well it DOES say "Royal Ball" and not "Grand Galloping Gala",so I'm not even gonna get mad. x3Now if it DID say Gala, I'd bit raging a little on the inside...I:<*Waiting for Hasbro to surprise us next year with toy improvements*
@BluMeinoTo be fair, those are also in limited quantities. Now, while I think a cloth dress set is out of the question, plastic snap-on pieces would have been pretty simple. The big reason? Girl toys are treated like shit. I don't have a Gen 4 figure, but my sister had Gen 1s that were handed down to me as a kid and I remember them being cheap and hollowed out. One single color with a trampstamp and some hair. The thing is most girls toys are hollow plastic with real hair and no articulation. Most girls abandon their toys by the time they're like 10 and boys are a more viable long lasting market. BUT Girl toys are a quickfix. MLPs are so cheap moms can buy two for the price of one basic Transformer. Barbies are only 5 dollars a doll. Girl toys are cheaply made so they're cheap and they can get as much out of the girls while they're still into toys. Also, everyone has to remember that the MLP team isn't used to having passionate fans. Yeah sure MLP fans existed before FIM but they weren't as passionate as the Transformers or GI Joe fans. It took a while but those teams have adjusted well to pleasing fans and kids, I'm more then sure the MLP team will find a balance soon enough.
That's... a little bit closer. Kind of.
>implying Transformers and GI Joe ain't shit tooa fan pleased whit his first purchase will only do That purchase. What Hasbro has perfected over the last 3 decades is the art of keeping people "irritated but buying", that is, sell the cheapest shit possible most of the time but spiced up whit some good-ish shit spread all around to maximize profit.most parents don't care if the character is series accurate or even who it is, they just want a good value surrogate love.
i bet 100 bucks that rarity didnt approve those desings
I'm just going to pretend that this is a fancy dress party where they all decided to go as a tent.
Our daughter has been hoping that Hasbro would start selling ponies with the Gala dresses. I showed the picture to her and she came unglued: "WHAT! ARE THEY CRAZY" Right now she's composing the first complaint letter she's ever written.
Who is responsible for subjecting our eyes to these horrors? Not to mention wasting my valuable time.
What don't I like about these dresses? Well... Since you really want to know...The armscye is tight. The middy color doesn't go with the shawl lapel. The hems are clearly machine stitched. The pleats are uneven. The fabric looks like toile. You used a backstitch here when it clearly calls for a topstitch or even a traditional blanket stitch. And the overall design is reminiscent of pret-a-porter, and NOT true French Haute-Couture.But whatever you want is fine.
But of course Hasbro will make toys that reflect the older MLP. But it's also lacking a Orion figure. OR at least a Prince Blueblood figure for Rarity. :P
They must have mixed up the boxes they put the toys in. Some little kid somewhere is very confused about why her "Arts and Crafts Time Ponies" are wearing dresses and jewelry instead of smocks and headbands.
mfw Scootaloo. I think that's Scootaloo.
Spike's bowtie is terrible. And the dresses...well, they're not good but you can't actually expect Hasbro to mass produce the canon Gala dresses. Too much effort to make, unfortunately, so they think kids will settle for...this. :(What's really bothering me is that Applejack. I mean DAMN that is bad. I was trying so hard to even figure out who that was, I really couldn't even tell that was her. :| WHY CAN'T SHE HAVE HER HAT. DAT MANE.
Oops, same commenter as above. I meant to say that Spike's bowtie was hilarious! But I'm so used to giving negative pony toy reviews I guess.
It's worth it solely for the Spike in bow tie
@Aquaman52But bear in mind, G4 put the TV series in a unique position, since this time the animation studio was able to design the characters and the style. This means that in order to satisfy the fan base (not even talking the bronies here, even the little kids are thinking this) the toys need to be accurate to the G4 style, not half-assed G3.5 interpretations of the G4 characters.Inaccuracies:1. Rainbow Dash looks like a girl. 2. Fluttershy wore green to the Gala, not pink. Twilight wore indigo, Rainbow wore...well...rainbow. And also, Rainbow is missing the gold olive branch hairpiece. 3. Pinkie Pie...wearing something other than pink? Have you SEEN Friendship is Magic?Yeah.
Hasbro, Exploitation is magic.
When I look at this set I am reminded of what Lauren Faust said was a major contributing factor behind why so many animated shows for girls were, for lack of a better word, lame. That being a lack of respect for what was being produced because it was being made for little girls. There is a lack of respect shown in these figures.I admit that the Gala Dresses are a little complex and may be hard to mass produce with 100% accuracy, but there is no way you could convince me that these are the best effort Hasbro could have put forth. Sigh. I'd probably still get it if only to get the Spike in a bow tie.
@AnonymousYour comment makes me sad, because I'm afraid you're right.Hopefully our community can convince Hasbro to get their act together.
I’m the ANON who posted about the lack of respect for girl’s toys. I feel I need to correct myself a little. Not only could Hasbro do better work but they have done better. http://www.hasbro.com/shop/browse/Girls/_/N-1rZ1yZgt/Ne-19Scroll down a bit and look at the dresses on those Littlest Pet Shop dolls. If they can mass produce those and other toy companies have no trouble designing and mass producing elaborate cloth dresses for their dolls (ex. Mattel and Barbie) I see no reason why Hasbro could not have recreated Rarity’s Gala Dress designs. No reason except a lack of respect. So what if they would have to make the ponies a little bigger so the dresses will be large enough to fit the level of detail needed, meaning that they can’t just recycle the G3 designs resulting in the figures costing $15 at the store instead of $6. I think people both young and old would appreciate the extra level of effort placed into the figures and the girls would probably end up holding onto their MLP doll just a little bit longer. My Little Pony is one of Hasbro’s flagship toy lines and it is sad that they do not treat it with the same level of respect that they do Transformers or GI Joe because it is for girls and even more so because it is MLP. It is not a question of time as it has been eight months since the series premiered and they would have had concept art and character designs available to them from even further back. It is not even about the Hasbro corporate executive not acknowledging the Brony fan base as MLP always has been and always will be first and foremost for little girls. The problem is that they simply don’t care. They have no respect for the girls they are making the toys for, and they have no respect for the show that would draw those girls into buying those toys. They spent millions of dollars on a television show to promote a toy line that they have absolutely no respect for. I don’t know whether to be angry or just sad.
Seth has confused us all. No where on the box does it say these are the dresses from the Gala.Beside, Hasbro is a big company. They have a lot more toys that have a much larger amount of buyers than the brony community. For all we know, Hasbro probably doesn't know about us at all, or just doesn't care about us bronies. Think of it from Hasbro's perspective, we're really not very special to them as we may think we are. To a big company like them, a brony buying a toy for himself is the same as a parent buying a toy for their child. They're not getting anymore money if it's sold to a brony, so what's the point in making better quality toys to appease bronies?Of course better toys would be great, but don't go raging at Hasbro when they don't come. And to one of the bronies above, it has nothing to do with respect. My little pony most likely does not sell as much as the toys Hasbro makes an effort in making. Simple as that. If millions of people bought a my little pony toy, Hasbro would put more money into increasing the quality of their toys. What's a solution to this? Somehow make my little pony's toyline more popular.
@AnonymousRespect Brony here. But a lack of respect is the point. MLP doesn't sell as well as other Hasbro products because so few have respect for them. Consumers do not respect the toys because they can look at them and see that little effort went into their creation. "If the manufacture has so little respect for the toy and me as a a consumer, why should I spend money on it?" Hasbro doesn't respect the MLP line enough to put more money into it to make consumers respect them enough to buy them. The problem is that now a lot more people do respect MLP. Hasbro had FiM made to make MLP more popular and drum up sales and it has, but if they really want to make the toys of themselves more desirable they have try and make them look less (once again for lack of a better word) lame. I bet that if Hasbro put a little more money and effort into the toys they would see an increase in sales. I'm not just saying this as an adult as I know girls who like the show but still scoff at the idea of actually owning one of the toys and a commenter earlier told how their daughter reacted negatively to this box set. I'm not raging at Hasbro, only sadden that after nearly 30 years nothing has really changed about the way they view this property. Especially after the release of a show that has changed the way so many view MLP and continues to do so.
Hahaha, Hasbro what have you created?
It's like they popped right out of the show! I mean WOW! That deserves an Octavia slowclap.
Who the hell says they are 'the' gala dresses?
It does not say Grand Galloping Gala. So really we can complain. It says royal ball. But i see it more as royal ball OF S**T.Hasbro need to wake up and realize that there are Collector's who will buy these things. If they make them properly. They can even raise the price as we don't have to go cry to our moms for the money.
NeVerWant. Id prefer plastic molded unremovable dresses verse those cheap arse nightgowns.
Hmmmm....I'll skip, since I already have a toy of each pony, and all this adds are those dinky pieces of wraparound fabric that are FAAAAAAAR below the quality of Rarity's designs. At least they're not literally trying to pass them off as such--it DOES say "Royal Ball," which must be some cheap knock-off of the Grand Galloping Gala. xDNow, naturally, they SHOULD make show-accurate toys dressed in the proper Gala ensembles. We'd SO be all over it. Every potential buyer would likely be much more impressed with the care taken in the toys' creation, and maybe better encouraged to purchase even at a somewhat higher price. But I DO understand that these things are much more practical for them to produce, and besides, little girls will probably be satisfied with them. I do gotta love Spike's bow. x3 And the dresses aren't the worst thing I've ever seen, but I am disappointed in the amount of attention that obviously went into them. I guess if you needed a set of all six (plus Spike! <3 I do want him, lol), this could be fine. And I absolutely understand everything about Hasbro's business needs and the fact that they're a large company manufacturing many other brands and everything...but regardless, I just know that if I were designing toys (and I would SO love to be), I'd be trying to make them the coolest, best darned toys they could possibly be...and assuming that I'd wind up reaping plenty o' profits because of that simple fact.
@CurttehmurtI like the idea of them purposfully dressing as shit, prehaps they are trying to troll Celestia for a change! And why does McDoanlds have the most realistic ones XD
I think Hasbro has a portal to the fail universe and that's where they get all there toys from.
