Now that "Friendship is magic" on DA brings up 30 pages a day though, I think I can handle it.
I tried to get a huge variety here, so feel free to comment on them individually so I can determine what NOT to post. I'm not really huge on OC ponies myself, so I don't know all of the "rules".
If all goes well, I might do another in the future.
There are also a few crossovers mixed in. It's difficult to tell the difference.

Not a fan of ponies with patterned skin, but otherwise I have no issues with OC's whatsoever.
...is there that much of a difference between drawing an OC compared to drawing and redrawing a background pony with no dialogue?
One guideline suggestion might be to post only well-drawn and well-coloured OC ponies. You already seem to have done that here, so it might be an intuitive rule. It might also help to keep posts short and sweet.
I particularly like the alien pony. Partly because being an alien is an excellent loophole for really imaginative design, and partly because of those lovely colours.

Most of them are just too over the top with the designs, and besides, I dont care about them, not because they are OCs, but because I know nothing about them (not that I want to), It is better to just stick with fanart of the canon ponies (there are tons of them too choose from).
On an unrelated note, I felt like searching for the other OC drawfriends... and instead stumbled into "Drawfriend Stuff: Ponies in Lingerie"...

What i see in most OC ponies though is that they kinda lack the vibrant colours of the mane six and side characters

BTW, I STILL don't see why some ponies don't like OC ponies. They are quite a good refresher from the mane six, Trixie, Spike, Derpy and Dinky, and the other canon/fanon mane ponies.

#24 takes the cake in my opinion, just because of how out of place it is with the rest of them.
I like #1. That's pretty much it. The rest are over the top, weirdly drawn or look like they have skin disorders :/... Oh and death pony was alright too.

Either they're too bland or too over the top with design and colors. I like #3 the most.
Ugh, some of them do look cool, no doubt, but updates like these should remain few and far between.

Some nice designs here, though a lot of them are far too OTT to be placed in a scene with the show's characters - background characters or otherwise. For example some have non-canon tails, or their colour palettes are vast.
Still, going nuts with an OC is fun.
To be honest, I like 17 and 18 the most.

I noticed that as well. This of course makes me think that if I did create an OC pony I'd do a colt with a bright teal or pink coat, because it's not like you get to choose what your skin color is in real life.

I don't generally care about OCs, but there's a few among them that I like. I wouldn't mind an occasional compilation of them, as long as they don't replace the normal drawfriends.

I don't mind OC ponies as they give us something different to look at in people's art instead of seeing the same ponies over and over again. Maybe someday I'll be satisfied to try and get my own creation posted up on this site one day lol.
Besides... It's not like he's removing draw friends and newbie artists to do this. Which bythe way pop up much more frequently then these. You'll still get your fill of mane/support/background ponies from the show on this site...

#sethisto I actually enjoy OCs, though I would recommend to avoid posting OC characters that were clearly designed to be as similar to certain original pony as possible. (though it's not the case in this compilation, it's better to play safe than sorry)
OC Characters aren't so bad in drawn form. To me they're no different to the background ponies in the actual episodes. Cool looking designs that have no effect.
It's OCs in stories where you have to be careful.

I fail to see much an issue with OC ponies, dependent on the context of course. It;s more interestting than seeing the main cast over and over again, and are great in fiction, not when interacting with the mane cast, but in in universe fiction unrelated to the mane cast (other than maybe a passing mention), and how else would you do tabletop pony rpgs than with OCs?
I'm in the "all for OC ponies, just don't ship them with the mane cast" camp.

I generally like the designs of the various OC ponies, and it is fun to imagine what my pony might look like, so I am happy to see the fantasy herd trotting by. I agree that generally I want to see the Mane Cast, but well drawn OC's are good too. These are the ones that are in the top 25% of my interest level:
1: Any filly that likes gears can't be all bad.
3: Nice design and the eye is very compelling
6: Like the filly and the interesting glance from the colt.
17, 18, nice simple, cute designs.
I don't like the ones that get too complicated with their coat markings and such. Cutie marks should also be straight forward and reasonably easy to interpret. Like yours, Sethisto!

I have an Oc, ok I wont send it to you, mostly because I just drew the first sketches today.... i also have nothing special in the way of looks for him.
I do enjoy seeing anything pony related that looks cool, so this is a good way to branch out from the Pinkie obsessed training grounds art.
Could've done without the alicorn but not a bad set overall. Some of them aren't even OC though, just ponifications.
Whenever someone mentions OC, everyone in this fanon sems to turn into a raging neckbeard. I don't really get it, if they're done well they may as well be another background pony. Since we know just about as much as the background ponies (ie nothing) as an OC if they're well written into a story it can be pretty effective.
Although I do get irritated by alicorns, ponies that have too many details and poorly written self inserts (although the latter can happen with background characters too).
At the end of the day, its just people enjoying themselves and I don't have a problem with that.
I approve of this, especially if you're not accepting submissions. That way we should get the best.
Also, I really love the hobo pony, do not know why.
I jelly for these peeps who can draw for fluid. I have no problem with OCs since I have one, but I do not write any fanfics, so yea. (AKA ponysona as avatars.)
Some are pretty neat, but Renard x Squeedge (AKA Mayhem and Mischef the shark-babes) always cheer me up, especially since these are the guys that got me to FiM.

Almost all of these ponies look really good. A few too mish-mashed, but good overall.
OC's are sort of meh for me. The problem isn't in the art quality (which I will admit is good here), it's that most simply don't convey their personalities as strongly as the cast. Any of the mane cast won't ever have this problem because their personalities are very well known. Take, for instance, the Nightmare Moon picture in the last Drawfriend: http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/06/drawfriend-stuff-108.html .
First off, the visuals are stunning, but beyond that there's a lot going on emotionally. Look at her, and you can feel that her heart is as lonely as the "kingdom" behind her. You know that though she puts out a large, menacing, powerful presence, she is actually just a scared, lonely, homesick little girl who made a mistake a long time ago and is still suffering from it. That preconception transforms the picture from "really cool picture" into a tragic narrative that almost seems alive. Now, if you tried to forget everything you knew about Nightmare Moon and Luna and looked at the picture again, the feeling is diminished; It stays at "really cool picture".
I'm not saying that OC's have little personality (some of the ones up there have a lot!), but they only have a few thousand pixels to compete with characters that have been polished by 26 episodes, hundreds of fanfics, and even other artists.
Then again if you enjoy it, enjoy it. I'm probably full of crap anyway.
These are all great drawings. OC ponies are fine. Everyone's just looking for something to complain about and make some kind of pointless brony hierarchy.

OC pony drawings > OC ponies in fanfiction! Some of the designs are really cool or really cute so I enjoy looking at them. :3 I also tend to like it when people take characters from elsewhere and turn them into ponies.
Creativity is the main thing that makes good OC ponies (and OCs in general) good. The key word is "Original". I also think making an OC pony fanfic is harder because you have to build your characters from scratch. Using only canon characters is easier because your readers are already familiar with them.
Most of these aren't half bad. Just goes to show you shouldn't automatically disregard OCs.

Hi, thank you for posting my artwork (17, 18, 19, 22)
However could you please make it clear that these images and OCs are not to be used without the owners permission? Sadly since this blog was posted I have noticed several people stealing my artwork and OCs, or the OCs of the people who commissioned those drawings.
Unfortunately some people within this community seem to think that if it has a pony in it, then it's ok to use, which isn't always the case.
