About some of these swimming pictures...
I'm thinking Fluttershy would be an excellent swimmer (partially because of the amazingly written "Secret Tub Fun" fanfic series) and partially because she's shown to care for fish too.
On the other hand, Rainbow Dash would be a bad swimmer (or can't swim at all), possibly due to focusing everything on flying.
It'd probably be a good episode (Fluttershy helping Rainbow Dash swim better, Rainbow Dash helping Fluttershy to fly better)

Never thought I'd see a feasible "Nightmare Moon wins" scenario, but I think this would actually work; assuming the moon's about an AU away from the sun, and she could keep them both static, she could keep a permanent solar eclipse going over her capital.
This would have the effect of allowing outlying lands enough sunlight to grow food, but also result in having a crescent sun in the sky as both a symbol and a constant of her reign, and wherever you went in Equestria, the two "prongs" of the crescent would always point to her capital. Truly epic.
