    5. I can deal with the porn and the slashfics, but this....this is just awful.

    6. People really hate that guy from the first comic. I don't really know why, but they do.

      ReplyDelete
    7. @Anonymous

He's the Buckly of /co/, that should explain it.

      ReplyDelete
    8. I don't understand the hate either...

    9. Well I can imagine what's gonna happen, but I don't think it helps any of us to comment about the fact that it may/will happen. :P

And yeah, not really a fan of TomPreston(from the first comic) and I'll just leave it at that.

      ReplyDelete
    10. Huh, I never thought someone like him would enjoy the show.

      ReplyDelete
    11. Doesn't understand what the problem is.

      ReplyDelete
    12. @Filiecs

This man knows nothing of tolerance, he is a pretentious bastard who criticizes others drawing styles and feels that his is the epitome of cartooning.

      ReplyDelete
    13. google CattyN. the first image that pops up is part of why we hate the first comic's artist.

This is in no way your fault, Seth!

    14. And several of the recent strips of the furry webcomic "Broken Plot Device" also featured ponies, chek em out- http://www.brokenplotdevice.com/2011/05/04/brony-4-life/

Hope this isn't the end of MLP as we know it!

      ReplyDelete
    17. Okay, I can kind of understand wanting to put stuff like this up, but why in the HELL would you use SYAC, THAT UNFUNNY FUCK, as your main picture?
SYAC is one of the most atrocious webcomics there is. Hell, it's almost worse than CAD. Please for the love of celestia, take that down and change it to something else so I don't rage hard when I see this post.

      ReplyDelete
    18. The comment section of his comic made me want to vomit.

    22. Er. Why do people hate on TomPreston?

      ReplyDelete
    23. I think I missed something somewhere along the line...

      ReplyDelete
    24. *sighs* Ponies gonna hate. I dunno why everyone hates tompreston nor do I care (There's enough people t'hate in my life) and I'm not sure whether i fall on the side of take it down or leave it up but it can't hurt to add more comics. Like the one I sent to a while back hint hint:P

      ReplyDelete
    25. Not knowing who this Tom Preston guy is, it seems like crappy comics wouldn't be enough for everypony to hate him as much as they seem to. What's the deal?

      ReplyDelete
    26. >see comments
      >haven't the slightest clue what's going on

    27. i ... honestly have no idea what is going on , any brony is a good brony

      ReplyDelete
    28. What the hell. It's a good thing the show has a large secondary demographic, even if you hate the guy and his webcomic. Sheesh.

      ReplyDelete
    29. @Anonymous

His webcomic is mediocre, we hate Tom as a person.

      ReplyDelete
    30. The question is WHY everyone seems to hate him. you are all whining for the sake of whining without giving reason. Explain for the rest of us?

      ReplyDelete
    31. I'm not getting the hate either. So someone you don't like happens to like something you do, shouldn't be a problem. Reminds me of when people freaked out a bit when Jay Naylor did that humanized MLP artwork from awhile back.

      ReplyDelete
    32. Whatever happened to "love and tolerance?"

It's happening, isn't it? Civil war is a coming...

      ReplyDelete
    33. Not knowing who the first guy is, I have no idea what's going on. Could someone, please, educate me?

      ReplyDelete
    34. so everyone likes to whine and complain, but as soon as someone calls them on it they run and hide?

    35. @Anonymous

An inflation artist from the looks of things.

      ReplyDelete
    36. Inflation artist? He draws economic trends?

      ReplyDelete
    37. i too have no idea were the hate is coming from but if people really do hate this person for past actions they should do what any brony does to a parasprite in there mists. ignore them, and continue in there pony bliss unabated. sounds clichéd but it's better then raging and leaving a fandom that has brought so many so much joy and happiness.

      ReplyDelete
    38. I'm trying to find the pick from /co/ that explains all this bullshit, just give me a sec.

    41. BLU? go away you dirty blu's, RED FOREVER!

      ReplyDelete
    42. Wow, I can understand not liking a webcomic, but the hate for this guy seems a little extreme. I guess I'll join the growing chorus of people who have no idea who Tom Preston is and want to know what could possibly justify such a reaction.

This is almost as bad as the people freaking out when Jay Naylor did his humanized pony sketch. Just learn to ignore it and let it go, bronies.

      ReplyDelete
    53. I would not trust any of the posters against him so far because without fail they have refused to say why he is so bad. Failure to present evidence to back up their claims and all that.

      ReplyDelete
    54. @Anonymous

Yeah, take Anonymous' opinion at face value. That sounds like a great idea.

      ReplyDelete

Google images cattyn. Do it. There's a reason his da got banned and all of his threads on/ co/ get carnivale'd.

      ReplyDelete
    62. I suppose just calm down a bit? The comic that Seth posted is in itself okay, and if the artist is a douche, okay. So he's a douche. No need to pay attention to him. If people want to call him terrible, I dunno. Probably better places to do that than the comments section. Hell, if he's such a jackass, why pay him attention at all?

      ReplyDelete
    63. Why would any community want to acknowledge someone as talentless as Tom?

      ReplyDelete
    64. @Anonymous

honistly, you hate the guy for inflation art? who knows nothing of tolerance now?

      ReplyDelete
    65. http://encyclopediadramatica.ch/CattyN

Read that, probably contains why people don't like him. Seems like a 4chan thing if he's featured on ED and no one else knows who he is.

      ReplyDelete
    66. Tompreston is just about the worst webcomic writer ever. His comics are always the exact same thing: him bitching about how other artists/people are wrong, and he's right. Really, every one of his comics ends with his character, who's obviously nothing more than the artist himself in comic form, making an angry face at how stupid anime fans, random stand-ins for his pet peeves, or people who are not into his likes are. And trust me, the guy can not take constructive criticism worth a damn.

The man is incredibly petty, his webcomic is incredibly petty, and he's a hypocrite(hates anime/manga but will frequently draw in a pseudo-anime form). He's hated for a reason fillies and gentlecolts, this isn't hate coming out of thin air. If you still don't understand, great, cause you shouldn't bother trying to figure it out. This particular webcomic artist is not worth your time.

Oh, and he went to college to study art and graduated, but, uh, this is the best he can do. So yeah.

      ReplyDelete
    67. It's a comic that varies between unfunny and mediocre, by an smug author who can't handle criticism. However, the reason for the hate is that, despite that, it still has huge fanbase.

      ReplyDelete
    68. I can only imagine the reaction if the Sonichu dude put a FIM style pony in his comic. XD

      ReplyDelete
    69. I see the guy's stuff posted on /co/ a lot. If I were to venture a theory, I'd say that the reason a lot of people hate him is because all his comics (the ones /co/ posts anyway) are about, well, him. He's always depicting himself knocking down straw men to make himself look important.

You can ignore him, but the tone of his work is kind of obnoxious. I'm only in on the dislike for the guy from the surface, so I don't know what all else hurts his reputation.

His comics do kind of push my exasperation and intolerance buttons, though. I don't know what it is about them. I guess that when you see a guy stroking his own ego all the time, calling it your entertainment and expecting you to be thankful for it, you sort of wish he'd just stop.

      ReplyDelete
    70. People, you are fans of a show that advocates kindness, tolerance, and friendliness.
This is awfully disappointing. Please, just leave the guy alone, would you?

      ReplyDelete
    71. >People, you are fans of a show that advocates kindness, tolerance, and friendliness.

      it just advocates friendship, bro

      ReplyDelete
    72. I googled it and his DA is the first result

      ReplyDelete
    73. Took a look at the encyclopedia dramatica link...did they really write it in such a way as to make it look like he realized he was being a pest and decided to quit, but then the internet acted like pests and blew everything out of ...oh wait.

      ReplyDelete
    74. ok. I looked him up. He seems like an unsavory individual. I have no intention of looking further into this, since it seems like something not at all productive to anything.

Now, I still don't understand why this should have any effect on MLP or anyone who watches the show. So he likes the it. Big deal. That isn't gonna destroy the quality of the show, and it isn't going to make anyone associated with the show lesser of a human being.

      ReplyDelete
    75. @Lia

Listen, I love escapism as much as the next guy. It's nice to think that people can live in harmony and be tolerant of one another, but that's not the way the world works. Let's be realistic: it's an entertaining show with a decent fanbase, nothing more.

      ReplyDelete
    76. well, lets just hope and pray that that will be the last and only MLP comic TomPreston does. Since no one else has seemed to say it, I'll go out and say just a few of the reasons why his comics get so much hate.

-not. a. single. one. has a joke or punchline that are remotely funny. Look at the above comic. Which part of it is supposed to be the part you laugh? The part where he's watching MLP? The part where he says "I'm a cartoonist so I like cartoons"?

-Almost all the time you can cut out at least half the pannels of his comics, and it will still "make sense". The above comic is a great example, remove the first two panels, done.

-In all of his comics where he shows his opinion, he always makes the opposing character look like an insane lunatic, while his character (that shares his point of view) is calm and collected.

-He used to (and probably still does, privately) draw balloon expansion porn of random cartoon characters.

There's a lot more but it'd be silly to waste more time on this. If someone wants to continue where I left off, feel free.

      ReplyDelete
    77. People CAN live in harmony and be tolerant of each other, except those guys above us who can't :D

      ReplyDelete
    78. just handle this like the main cast handled trixie, let him make a fool of himself and forget him by the next episode (oh shit, did i just add fuel to the fire?!)

      ReplyDelete
    79. @ anon 3:13

So it's more of a case of "He likes things I don't like, comics are not funny if they don't pander to a pure warner bros style gag setup, and his opinion differs from mine! Oh, and he *might* draw stuff that I don't approve of, so nyah!"

      Am I right?

      ReplyDelete
    80. I'm not saying you should pretend that everyone can live in harmony and peace.
I'm just asking for you to be a tad bit nicer.

      ReplyDelete
    81. And people can be tolerant of each other, it's easy to do.

      ReplyDelete
    82. @Lia
I always ignore this guy's work, but I see no reason why we shouldn't trash this guy's stuff whenever it shows up in places it shouldn't be. For example, here. Someone should tell Seth not to post anymore Tom Preston stuff in the future, he clearly didn't know anything about this particular "artist" or his reputation.

      ReplyDelete
    83. Lets hate people for other things they've done

      ReplyDelete
    84. http://syacartoonist.com/getting-new-ideas

      This one is funny!

      ReplyDelete
    85. @anon 3:15 (Where's my greentext for a good implying quote)

Not the same poster you were talking to, but the one you're misunderstanding was pretty clear. The artist we're unhappy with writes a comic that can be dissected into pieces without losing any impact, which means every panel is kind of boring and meaningless.

It's not really about his opinion differing as far as I'm aware, and I don't care if he draws porn. Lauren Faust herslef could draw porn and I wouldn't think differently of the show, frankly. However, the guy is kind of a foppish manchild, and it's upsetting to see him getting advertised.

The fact that his comic is just stirring up a lot of anger is a good indicator that he's probably not a good person to appear on any website that isn't being intentionally trolled. It's the same as posting Buckley's B^U comic, which is also disliked with a cold, festering passion by a lot of people.

      ReplyDelete
    86. Hey, that's happened to me too!

      ReplyDelete
    87. @ Anon 3:23

I really don't get your point. Just looking at the one posted up above is pretty funny because I get the joke, and checking his website has the alt text to support that. Heck, what would you say to XKCD? That some of its comics aren't funny? Sometimes that's the point if you are using the drawn medium for something other then a gag a day format. Why is this one guy not allowed to do that?

      ReplyDelete
    88. @Lia
      >People, you are fans of a show that advocates kindness, tolerance, and friendliness.
Bullshit. FiM advocates acceptance and being bros more than tolerance. You wouldn't tolerate someone who is only able to say "I am better than you and everyone else in every single way". I don't recall any of the cast saying "Sure Trixie's a loud, obnoxious, arrogant egomaniac with a chip on her shoulder whenever someone disagrees with her, but I am going to tolerate her insufferable behavior" in Boast Busters.

      ReplyDelete
    89. @Sethisto

      ReplyDelete
    91. yup, and they still have not presented any concrete evidence as to why we should hate this guy beyond "I said so!" and "His comic is not funny"

      ReplyDelete
    92. Ok finished the comic, His humor is not slap stick so it's not lol, which some people don't like. He is into weird porn (not in his web comic but that one link talked about him)
So meh, I won't be adding his web comic to my list of comics I read but hating him, waste of time.

      ReplyDelete
    93. @ Crazy, so in other words everyone is being the intern...of course.

      ReplyDelete
    94. @Lia

Look sugarcube, there are a lot of people that don't want to see his art, and don't want his work being acknowledged as somehow good. I do not care about Tom Preston, but I can understand why feel the need to express their dislike for his stuff, and I see no reason why bad art and bad writers shouldn't be criticized for being so bad.

I wasn't going to say anything but I really do feel the need to defend the people who are rightfully calling a bad artist, a bad artist. No where in My Little Pony is there a lesson where we shouldn't criticize a terrible artist or writer. One of the things I like about the show is that it doesn't dumb down things in a way a regular kid's show would. Trust me, Ponyville and its citizens would have a thing or two to say about a silly filly like Tom Preston.

      ReplyDelete
    95. @anon 3:26

Well, if you find him funny you find him funny, I guess. XKCD never bothers me because those comics are lighthearted and kind of poke fun at life. I never feel like somebody's ego is bleeding into the writing or that I'm supposed to take home the message that the author is better than me.

This guy, though. It's like his little problems are so important to him that they've got to be important to me too. They're not, however, so I just don't like reading about his life or his thoughts. He's not whimsical, cute, clever, or bold. His art isn't really a cut above anything else out there. From what I can tell of his writing, as a person I'm not fond of him.

I mean, meh, if you're a fan then have at, I guess. Sometimes the reason people like certain things totally elude me, and I'll see this kind of attitude all over the internet. Where I see wretch, you see depth, or beauty, or something. Sometimes people tell me blase stories and comics are really good if you seek out hidden metaphors, in which case you're really just hunting for parts of yourself.

But face value? I like to set this guy aside with a tired groan.

      ReplyDelete

    98. OK, reading some of the comics on his page and I don't get it. they are not inherently designed to be gag strips, but seem to be more of a "slice of my life" strips.

Why read comics you don't like again?

      ReplyDelete
    99. Alright, so he's basically Buckley with an expansion fetish. OK, I can see where the sentiment is coming from, now. The only problem I had was with some of the comments that made it seem like Satan had invaded FIM fandom or something. Carry on.

It's just painful to know there's a bunch of people eating shit when there's a gourmet meal to be found elsewhere. What makes it worse is when you try to convince them it's shit they're eating and they don't believe you.....

    104. I wasn't gonna say anything till I read some of the strips. Yeah, they really aren't all that funny, but I don't think they were meant to be.

I'm not going to defend him or his strip, but I am gonna say that I think I may understand it. I THINK it's just his version of a diary. He represents himself as the main character and just writes about the way he believes he experienced a certain aspect of his day. Of course it's with his personal bias slant to it, since it's him that was writing it.

If that is true, then I suppose he is a little justified at being mad when people constantly criticising something for not being what it wasn't intended to be in the first place. But then I wonder why he put it up online to begin with. Maybe he thinks people want to read it (and apparently some do, but most don't).

Still, though, I can't help but wonder why people let things like this get to them so much.

      ReplyDelete
    105. AHAHAH the first comic has happened to me . . . guess i shouldnt have kept the entire season on my phone . . . . LMAO with over 5oo mlp pics. 26yr old guy with mlp on his phone . . . . . take it how you want. all i know is i used to work with horses, i still love them and wish i still did work with them. Cartoons are my fav source on relaxing media ( the funnier the better ), i watch all kinds from hilaroius kids shows ( spongebob ) to some of the darkest and most disturbing anime. I loved fosters home for imaginary friends, i sorta like PPG's . . . .not sure why tho LMOA. SO now lauren is doing PONIES, and they are awesome . . . . Horses are awesome, laurens other works were awesome. SO i like laurens awesome ponies.

      ReplyDelete
    106. Come to think of it even in the show the ponys will tolerate others... to a point. example: rarity and prince "charming" (man i love this show. and that episode was awesome) also, w00t! were geek is now a part of the herd :D

      ReplyDelete
    107. So I read up on him...
So what if he has no idea how to handle criticism? He probably got his work critiqued to the ground in art school and unfortunately developed the mentality that he is better than everyone else and anyone who criticizes him has no taste, is a bad artist, and is jealous.
Sure this may be a bad mentality but why add fuel to the fire just like a lousy troll would do?
If you know criticizing his work makes him explode and causes a lot of hate, why do it? Hate won't set him right, it will just convince him more that his way is right.
This man is just another victim of the internet.

I say give this guy another chance. He's a brony like us and deserves to be treated as such.
Who knows? He could actually turn out to be a nice guy if you just tolerate him and if he does start to blow it then, well, he'll get whats coming to him.

It just makes me sad to see what some people have become thanks to the internet. Have a little empathy.

      ReplyDelete
    108. Reading his comics as well as his notes on said comics, I have not noticed a "Better than you" mentality so much as a "I have this opinion" mentality.

On the other hand, some of them are pretty funny, like the one about running a booth at a convention while needing to go to the restroom, or annoyingly true, like the one about how as soon as an artist starts making money these days they get dubbed "Sellouts"

      ReplyDelete
    109. So he made some odd stuff then made a sub-par webcomic... I see no reason for the hate mild annoyance maybe, but we're on the Internet leave your hate at the door.

    110. I don't see what the hate is about. Read the comic, not great, not hate worthy though. I read the Encyclopedia Dramatica entry and it's obvious it's been edited to try and paint him as an asshole so it's worthless (I like the mention of ED being the only site left on the internet to even talk about his comic though, I seriously doubt that).

Also, is anyone other than me thinking that most of the hating anonymous are the same person? Especially since some of the posts directly after each other say the exact same thing in slightly different ways.

    111. Holy shit, I've heard about CattyN back in the day. You're telling me that this is the same guy?!?

      Wow...just....wow.

That puts some things into perspective....

That being said, I try to quietly ignore things I don't like and I suggest you try to do the same. It'll keep you from going crazy. Or at least keep you from going crazier, such as is the case with individuals like me.

Anyways, the lesson here? If you're going to post a web comic shout out, do research first to make sure the author isn't hated.

    112. I smell a clear and present threat in the air. We must leave before it consumes us.

    113. @Victorian R. Hellsly

Except it's not really criticism as much as it is knee-jerk contempt.

      ReplyDelete
    114. If you don't know who Tom Preston is then don't comment on the hate. He deserves every bit of it.

I was into his fetish art when he was CattyN. I've seen him continue to be a colossal prick even after trying to run away from his fetish art and insulting everyone who ever supported him.

This whole article should be deleted and that comic of his should be taken down from every pony site and board.

    115. @Anonymous

Nopony deserves to be treated like that. All you'd be doing is supporting his attitude. Don't answer hate with hate. Answer hate with love and let it be up to him whether or not he chooses to accept it.

    116. @Filiecs

That's nice and all but his shit shouldn't be getting advertised.

      ReplyDelete
    117. Maaaaaaaaan you guys get pissed off at the stupidest things.

      ReplyDelete
    118. This may very well be the first pointless internet argument among bronies. ("which pony is best" arguments do not count)

      ReplyDelete
    119. I don't know who this guy is, but I know who Buckley is, so I'll pretend I'm talking about him.

Never begrudge the success of others. I don't care how undeserved of it you think they are. When you go shooting your mouth off in this way, you aren't swaying anybody towards your own opinion, it just makes you look like a petty asshole. You don't like him? Fine. You want to criticize him? (note: "He's a dick" is NOT acceptable criticism) That's fine too. But don't begrudge him his success, as YOU'RE the one who suffers when you think that way.

I was just in a very calm and tender area, then I came to this... what the boodles? o_O
Trolls gonna troll, but we shouldnt be raging at them. That ain't the bronie way.

      ReplyDelete
    122. I've seen some of Tom Preston's work now and then. Me thinks this is a good comic.

      ReplyDelete
    123. So... how 'bout that second comic?

      ReplyDelete
    124. I like how nopony cares about the second comic but only either A: rage about something not even worth the time raging or B: being confused and asking for reasons to unreasoned rage.

      ReplyDelete
    125. So, I believe it's time to add more to the stack.
http://www.fanboys-online.com/index.php?comic=343 (and the next page too)
http://www.vgcats.com/comics/?strip_id=299 (If you look carefully, you can find it.)

Both of these are kinda old, so I apologize for those of you who already knew of these -- oh wait I found one more:

I oughta check up on my old favorites more often.

    126. So what if someone who is a complete and total SOB for some reason likes FiM?

What all the haters are doing (specially the brainless ones) are pulling Insane Troll Logic on us: "The artist is evil incarnate. He likes ponies. Ponies are RUINED....FORRRRRREEEVERRRRRRRRRR!!!!"

I'd laugh if it didn't sound so pathetic. Seriously, the vast majority of the haters who are leaving the ponydom because of this have absolutely no common sense and good riddance to them.

      ReplyDelete
    127. Yes, feeding parasprites is wrong, but something I just have to go WTH with some reactions here.

Sure, I'd seen my share of total noobs like some of my favorite stuff, but do you see me say "I'm leaving because X likes this"?

No, we're going to love and tolerate the S**T outta this and for those who would troll me and say to be more realistic, hayters will always be haytin'.

    128. Gasp, this guy loves ponies, end of the world, friendship is ruined...What? Srsly guys, calm down. Comic fits the pony theme and it's about it so Seph did a right thing about posting it.

    129. We need a Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff pony comic. Get on it.

      ReplyDelete
    130. "OMG IM GONNA DROP BEING A BRONY CUZ THIS RETARD IS ONE NOW"

Seriously -_- it isn't the end of the world if some douche catches onto this. I don't know who he is or care. Neither should you. end of discussion.

    131. YAY!!

Finally someone noticed here the "So you're a cartoonist" comic about ponies!! I enjoyed a lot that strip last week, that made me laugh a lot!! I love a lot that webcomic! it's so hillarious!! XD

    132. @ratinha Dey
I'm sorry, but there's no way you could have scrolled all the way down this post without noticing all the rage for this one particular comic without realizing that a comment like the one you made would fan the flames. There's just. No. Way.

As for everypony else, I'm not that big a fan of Tom Preston's work. I don't exactly approve of all the straw men he uses so frequently, but I hardly hate him. Let's not let one guy dismantle everything, huh? Put the rage aside, and focus on the friendship.

      ReplyDelete
    133. I read some of his comics from the ED page and all I have to say is: This guy is not worth the energy required for hate. The only thing I feel for him is indifference.

      ReplyDelete
    134. I had this exact same conversation with a friend of mine. Sort of.

"Hey man, what's... are you watching My Little Pony? And... are they singing about Winter? The fuck?"
      "I'M A MUSICIAN, SHUT UP!"

      ReplyDelete
    135. I actually like SYAC...

And besides, what the hell happened to "I'm gonna love and tolerate the shit outta you"?

      ReplyDelete
    136. Way to love and tolerate the shit out of people...

      ReplyDelete
    137. I was indifferent of his comic stuff and find little funny because he made jokes on his account,
like some low life soul person to get attention on his work,so just i ignore his pages and not give fave on DA,
but, when i saw his other work about so called Adventure team of 2 girls in love, obviously Lesbian relationship , some cat like battler, and 1 shy gay(homosexual),Then i Really anderstend what is the Catch, in his Comics for young Kids, the hidden message that Homosexuality is okay, and they can do that as normally thing!!
i'ts disgusting to do see and read that!!! That is Gay&lesbian Porn and in his hidden&mild way to lure the innocent children, and the web tolerate all that!what is the world coming for,to see so many stuupid people have fun on it!
if sick people full fill their sick evil plans,we all go down....
