Not a bad story. I normally dont like shipping but this one peaked my curiosity. I am just as surprise as everyone though that Rainbow Dash of all the mane cast was shipped with a male pony!
It's not that surprising to see Rainbow shipped with a male pony. She's running out female ponies to be shipped with so this is the next logical conclusion.
We all know Dash swings both ways.

Liked this one despite a natural aversion to shipping fics in general... it's certainly earned the "sweet" and "lighthearted" tags. I'm not 100% convinced this story needs additional chapters, it's quite good enough as a self-contained vignette.

From what we've seen, Cloudsdale is actually between Ponyville and Canterlot.
Dash flew from Cloudsdale towards Ponyville during the race.
AJ saw the rainboom leading to Ponyville after the sun rose in the distance.
Since the sun was behind Ponyville, Manehatten was wasterly of Ponyville and south of Cloudsdale.
Lauren said Canterlot was North-Eastish of Ponyville.

I enjoyed the story a whole lot and I personally like the idea of more chapters.
Dash needs someone who can keep pace with her and Soarin' is perfect for that. And he's a loveable goofball.

I like the idea of others piggybacking on Dash's rainboom. Now I'm picturing the whole team doing that in formation! I get the sense that a rainboom requires something beyond just a high-performance pegasus, or it wouldn't be "a legend" or "old mare's tale". Every generation must contain at least a few pegasi as fast as Dash, after all!

IIRC, to make the Sonic Rainboom you gotta be fast enough to break the sound barrier (which is probably rare, but not legendary) *and* have a rainbow-colored mane (which I'm guessing is also pretty rare, since Dash is the only one we've ever seen in the show), so rare thing * rare thing = near-mythical. It's just science.

Well... you'd probably need a rainbow trail. But that's not the same as mane - all the thunderbolts can produce that black smoke/stormcloud trail, after all.
I'm curious how pegasus trails come about, and what you can do to create a different one.

Pleasant story, so far. Very convenient for the characters, until the 'no fraternizing' revelation.
I keep wanting Dash to do something brash, though. She's frustratingly passive. I'd much prefer something like, "Screw that, let's date." and then put it on the Wonderbolts whether or not to refuse her as a consequence.
Also, payments to women you've knocked up is generally called child support, or alimony, not welfare.
HETEROSEXUAL shipping? This I got to see.
I quite like it.
At some points it suffers from the "WHY AM I FEELING THESE FUNNY FEELINGS IN MY STOMACH IT COULDNT BE THAT IM IN LOVE COULD IT?" moments.
Still, you succeed in other moments, such as Dash feeling her house is suddenly empty.
I think instead of "funny feelings", you could have built upon this, such as mentioning how Dash never considered her home 'empty' before she met Soaren.
Also, there were 2 points in the story where you repeated yourself. Probably just a minor error though.
For some reason, although the "Our love is forbidden" came up rather quickly, it also didn't seem to feel too forced. Perhaps because it is slightly believable among a group of professionals.
Overall, good work! Look forward to more.

By human standards, this isn't legal... By pony standards, well, same a human, and even MORE since Equestria in itself is a country with high freedom.
(You know... Friendship ? Harmony ? Their lives evolve around those things... There's no way this rule can be remotely acceptable, even in a story.)
@Nova25 Even though I don't like the rule, it IS an elite unit, and they can make up any rule they like. It's not illegal per-se. Really, I can see why they would institute such a rule (don't mean to flip-flop here but I gotta play devil's advocate).
If there's emotional strife in an elite show unit, there could be problems during a show, especially if it's a dangerous show. If one of the flyers is busy thinking about an argument they had with his lover/teammate, then he may miss his mark by enough to cause a serious accident. Granted, this could happen anyway without an inter-team relationship, but it's the team's way of trying to curb the problem before it develops.
Similarly, it curbs drama and team breaking if said relationship does not work out. Team cohesion is vital, and any break in it spells disaster.
Like I said, I'm not for the rule by any means. I just see the reasons why they'd implement it.

Rules of clubs and groups apply to the individual of the group and to the group itself, as long as they are related to them, within reasonable parameters of liberty and freedom. (might have to rephrase that a bit, but you get the idea).
They cannot have rules that apply OUTSIDE the limit that is their ''Group'' (Wonderbolts), when they aren't in ''Wonderbolts duty''.
As an easy and clear exemple :
-Your boss cannot make a company rule stating that employes cannot be with other employes outside of work.
BUT!, they can apply this rule WHEN the employes are working, since they fall under the limit that is the company.
When NOT working and outside the limit of the company... They are freaking free to do whatever they want! (within the rules and regulation of the city/country/etc, of course).
So... in a few words... The Wonderbolt cannot LEGALLY apply this rule outside of their work. Only when working or during events when they represent the Wonderbolts (since it falls under being a Wonderbolt).
@Nova25 You're assuming they fall under normal laws. This is an entirely differend law system. A monarchy. Equestrian law may mimic human law but not so strictly. Remember that this is (sadly) a made-up existence. The law could exist where a private group/business could make that rule and it be legally binding.
I still don't like it, but again, devil's advocate.

May I remember you that this show exist because people (Faust, etc.) decided to apply human concepts and logic to ponies ? (might be a rough way to state it, but you get the idea).
Also, they work under what is more like some sort of constitutional monarchy, than an absolute monarchy.
Finally, whatever the dimension, a law is a law. The content of the law itself may vary, but it should technically be applied the same way (for the sake of our sanity, we will limit the number of alt.Reality, mmh?).

@Nova25 Yes, they gave human concepts to ponies, or anthropomorphisized them. But that does not mean they gave them every human quality in existence. I agree about the constitutional monarchy, but if you've ever watched ANY show where there's dimentional travel (Sliders, Doctor Who, etc.) You'll notice that not every dimension has the exact same law as our or even the previous one. In one dimension, slavery is abolished, while in the next you're born with chains on your wrists.
Yes I have heard of Abnormal laws. Nazi treatment of jews? Tell me that wasn't normal. And YES they were laws enacted by the German gov't at the insistence of Hitler.
I do believe that your first option IS better, however who's to say that the Wonderbolts are a business? Its never actually stated that they get paid anything. It's like the Blue Angels or the Thunderbirds. True they're awesome, but as far as I know they don't get paid extra by the Navy/Air Force. It's more for the Honor and Prestige.

The problem here is that you seem to forcibly combine the *Life When in Wonderbolts Uniform* and the *Life Outside the Wonderbolts Uniform*... They are 2 separate Entities.
Life at work... Life outside of work... They can be very close to one's eye, but they are separate nonetheless. (here, let's limit ourselves to those 2 dimensions...)
Everyone (and everypony) have a life outside of the hours where they work-(for a living or for duty/fame/etc), and that life OUTSIDE of work... being OUTISDE, separated, independant (insert synonyms) of it... isn't (and shouldn't be) controled by what is LIMITED to INSIDE the work.
Now... let's stop pretending that it's 'ok' and acceptable to have a stupid 'Rule from Work' to have control on your life 'Outside of Work' ...and let's remember that they are in Modern(relatively speaking) Equestria, and not WW2 Germany, mmh?

It's not uncommon for groups to have policies like this, actually.
The Wonderbolts preform highly dangerous stunts, and if one of their members isn't at the top of their game because they're tired from the night out with another Wonderbolt, focused on them during flight, or going through a rough spot in their relationship, that's bad.
But really, the policy is common, and isn't "non-sense" or out of place.
I train with the Fire Dept. as an apprentice of sorts (not an official apprentice) and I know a married couple who are both firefighters. They work at different stations due to a similar policy.
Although, they're married. I don't see why the policy is still applicable. But it exists.

i had been waiting for chapter 3 for a long time and I loved the ending.
the story itself made me cry at parts it was so sad or even happy I love a good chick flick at times and this is definitively one of my favorite story's.

This stuff is always, ALWAYS cute. I like it a lot more than the stereotypical lesbian shipping, mainly because I can actually relate to it.
Something to consider, Rainbow Dash and Soarin' seem to be able to do that lightning rainboom togeather. That stunt, and the fact thay can reproduce it would very likely get them past the 'no fratanizing' rules. nd if not, thay would probably be willing to make a special subset for a pair that can preform such stunts, but only togeather. Happens IRL actualy, though its rather uncommon. Also, something to consider, Soarin' has given her another dream in this story, one that, for her, might be more than just being part of the Wonderbolts.
Straight up shipping fics aren't really my thing, but even so I couldn't help but find myself feeling this one's definitely an exception to that rule. It just seemed to work together so naturally. All of my feelings for the ending can be summed up in one word though;

I have to say, for the most part of my life I've avoided fanfics outright. But since becoming a brony, I've dabbled in a few here and there. I'm not a fan of the more cloppier stuff, and I think this style of shipping is much nicer (My Dream Mare comes to mind as another I really liked).
However, I would probably have to say this is one of the best fics I've read, I found this to be really sweet, and I love the idea of Soarin and Dashie as a romantic couple. Really descriptive, had me hooked, and plenty of dawwwwww to boot. 5 stars from me, excellent work. ^^

Seriously though, I'm not sure how I feel about this ending. It fits. It does. So that's good. I certainly didn't think it was bad. I will probably just have to let it sink in a bit.
