The suspense! In all seriousness, this looks to be a great story. I knew it was only a matter of time before Pinkie's family surfaced in the fics, but I didn't expect anyone to draw a connection between them and Octavia. Color me intrigued.

More like the new VInyl Scratch, given the music motif and only appearing in one episode (so far). As a side note, I have my own belief that Scratch is related to Rarity somehow, but that is neither here nor there...
As for the Octavia being Pinkie's sister thing, I like the idea. True you could make the argument that the colors don't match up exactly and you'd think Pinkie would have at least mentioned it during the episode, but where's the fun in that?
Admit it, the idea of Pinkie Pie's sister being a classy musician is amusing to no end.

i still think it's a bass due to how big it is, but then again, ponies are somewhat small.
either way, i changed it to cello in the story itself, but that was after i sent the email to seth.
Octavia is not Pinkies sister imo but I'll give this a read later.
It's already been said that Octavia's colors don't match up to Pinkie's sister.
HOWEVER
I do like this, and hope to see the next part.
I do not like the idea of them being sister (is just a stupid theory which is so vague, you'd end up relating everypony to everypony), but this story was really good. Even more when you listen to some classical music while you read.
It's so weird how people latch onto background characters like this. Why is that?

There's only so much time in each episode, and pretty much all of that time is devoted to the mane cast. As such, we sometimes see background ponies that catch our eye for one reason or another, and we want to know more about them, mostly because they never got a chance to shine in the actual show.

Look for Inky Pie. Lavender Eyes, light grey coat and dark grey mane. The only difference I really see is the fact that Inky's mane is straight and Octavia's is wavey... But she could have easily have gotten it done be.
Octavia couldn't possibly be Pinkie's sister!

Dear god...
Pinkie's hair changes texture and her brightness shifts based on her mood, why would the rest of her family be exempt?
Not to mention she is the only character at the Gala to roll her eyes when Pinkie shows up. And the Pianist seems to blame her for it, not the pink ball of energy.
I love Octavia. When I first saw her on the episode, I immediately used the Internet to find her name, and chained my steam name and profile pic to her. I honestly thought I would be the only brony who like her, but apparently not!

I, too, though I was the only one who would like her. It was love at first sight, lol. After I watched the episode, I spent the entire time F5-ing at the MLP wikia to see what name they'd come up with.
Awesome, really. I love Pinkie Pie's stories, they usially much deeper and better than others. Dunno why.

I'm sorry, but the colour scheme is too different for Octavia to be Pinkie's sister (relative to Pinkie's actual sister).
I do like Octavia though, so elegant, I really want to see more of her.

i always like to answer questions, so here goes:
regarding the instrument thing: i ended up changing it to a cello in the story, but did so after i sent seth the email, so it still says contrabass in the description. i still think it's more of a bass since she's standing for it, but to avoid an argument, i'll stick with cello.
regarding whether or not octavia is pinkie's sister: i know people whose hair color changed as they aged, so it's not totally out of the question. it's still really close
regarding photo finish being pinkie's other sister: i never read the fic that used that, and i was actually a little upset when i realized that certain things i'm doing with the rest of the story won't allow that to work.
glad y'all are enjoying this. i was writing out the summary of the rest of the story today at work, and i think this is gonna end up being my favorite of my stories. will be working on part 2 soon :)

Well, I didn't love Octavia the second I saw her in the episode, but she did caught my eye for being the most original background female Pony I'd ever saw throughout season 1
And after I found out her fan-name, I loved her even more~

But if only she wasn't blue, it would made more sense

OK, I'm in support of the theory, the resemblance is indeed uncanny (quoting Twilight). Same coat, mane and eye colours, and the wavy hair style instead of dead straight hairstyle can easily be explained through one of several theories including age, it being styled just for the Gala, and Octavia being related to Pinkie - whose hairstyle changes dramatically based on mood, and life events.
...that second chapter was uncomfortably short.

Intriguing story, this one!
That is a Double Bass she is playing- a cello would be smaller. The only instruments I can think of with the title of "contra" are the contrabass clarinet (which I play) and the contrabassoon. There's also the octa-contrabass clarinet, but there's only like four pieces for those in the world.
I love that someone made a story about Octavia! :D
