I loved this story. I agree that this was practically a whole episode.
ReplyDeleteTwilight performing surgery struck me as a bit odd (was it just a way to get her involved so she could write the moral?), As did Dinky's speech (is that a bit of fanon that I've managed to miss?)

It was kind of a way to shoehorn her in, yeah, I'll admit. That's why I threw it in as a desperate gambit by the fillies that worked out, instead of a logical and sane plan.
ReplyDeleteAs for Dinky's speech, I mostly pulled that out of my flank, as it were. It was to provide contrast with Ditzy's usual depiction, while still making her a bit...Different.

ReplyDeleteI also liked Dinky's impressive vocabulary for a filly of her age. It's funny to think she's more all there than her mother.
I love how people think that a pegasus pony and a unicorn (prob'ly) pony can reproduce to make a unicorn pony without problems. Can one compare this to a Homo Sapien reproducing to a Neanderthal?
ReplyDelete@Anonymous Not only has Faust already said theres no reason why the differnt types of ponies cold get together, but it has been confirmed that H. sapian and Neanderthals have mixed and produced viable offspring.

ReplyDeleteThis is not a bad piece; your technicals are all good. However, I found this fic rather disappointingly bland. I don't feel like I know Dinky any better for having read it, and I got no emotional connection with even the established characters. I agree that it feels a bit like an episode, in that this is more a script than a story.
ReplyDeleteIt seemed like Dinky wasn't important to the plot. She was playing Idea Generator, but the CMCs do that anyway. Ideally, her appearance should thow off the balance of the group.
Bloom, Scoot, and Sweetie make up a Power Trio, which traditionaly has two very opposite elements and a third who acts as a mediating force. (Bloom being the mediator or "brains", with tomboy Scoot and girly-girl Sweetie as the foils.) Throwing in a fourth member ought to somehow upset that stable group.
I enjoyed it. Liked that Derpy didn't speak in nonsense.

I love the idea of the CMCs teaming up with Dinky.

I wondered how they'd be able to screw up a party with Pinkie. That's a pretty epic fail right there.
Dinky is remarkably literate.
That was very cute. A little rushed near the end, but enjoyable nonetheless.
