Glad you got your power back! Did you experience any pony withdrawal?
So how do you digitally color a pencil sketch and have it come out decently? I spent two hours trying to smooth out all the edges in mine (#248) and it still has awkward white pixels intermingled with all the outlines. Also not sure how to change those outlines to the proper colors, instead of just black.

You have had so much thrown at you lately, it's hard to be actually upset at you in any way. You've done a great job so far with all this.
Also, you explained what happened, it's something that wasn't planned for, and I, for one, accept that things like that can happen. I know I'm not the only one that understands.

Well, mine (261) is not a good example because I was rushing like crazy, but basically I did not use my pencil scan at all in the final image. Just traced over it with an ink layer, then removed it when I was done. If I were better with my tablet I'd use the pressure to vary line width, then I could duplicate my sketched lines better.

You can go over your sketch with a vector editor like Inkscape or Illustrator and turn it into line art. Then it is easy to color in and change the colors of the outlines.

Either use above suggestions; or, what I usually do is this (i use gimp but photoshop and co should be capable of this):
1: Gaussian blur the image. The radius should be about half the line width. This will (obviously) leave you with a blurry image.
2: use the "levels" tool or play with the brighness/contrast settings (in the end this is essentially the same thing) until your lines look as smooth and sharp as you want. Just make sure 'black' is really 'black'.
3: as for colouring, since you still have an antialiassed outline. Should you just paintbucket a colour in it will look ugly.
First make the background transparant, we're gonna do this all on layers.
Now, use a magic select tool thingie to select the area you want to colour. Because of the aliassing mentioned earlier, it will select a smaller area as desired, so look for a 'grow selection' tool. It depends on your input, but you usually need to grow it about 2-3 pixels.
now create a new layer, one behind the lineart and drop the colour.
you now have a smooth pencil-like lineart with colours inside.

Still it looks pretty good. Favourites are 254, 252, 158, 148 and 46. Looks like I'm gonna have to step up a notch if I want to compete with some of these drawings. Good job everypony though :)

I'm really impressed with how much the drawings have improved since Day 1. I couldn't enter this time around, I was too caught up in my studies. I was gonna draw a fruit eating pony, in it's literalest sense. A giant fruit that eats ponies. I thought it was clever.

The thumbnails were all converted to moderate/low-quality jpg's to make them as small as possible, so the animation disappeared. Best solution for now is to email animations to Phoe. Sorry about that.

I convert the thumbnails to jpg to space space, but jpg doesn't allow an alpha channel. My guess is that it simply deleted the alpha values, so any alpha with color ends up showing as a solid color rather than blending to white. I'll see if the conversion tool I'm using allows me to flatten images in a smarter way or perhaps allows me to add a white layer to merge with first.
Something weird also happened with #246, which was already a jpg, I will have to investigate.

How do you guys draw so well on a computer?
I'm an utter and total noob when it comes to drawing and such, perhaps it's a good idea to add a complete beginner's guide for people who don't know how to properly draw on a computer / how to properly draw...

I don't know If I should be telling you this since I'm that great myself(see pic 74) but what I do is trace over the sketch I drew with tracing paper and pens(pigma pens) then scan it, color it and the line on photoshop(you can most likely do that on gimp, which is free)
This is just how I do it since I'm not good with a tablet. But most digital artist use a tablet. Don't worry you'll get better. Stay strong Brony

I really don't know a thing about it so i'm pretty clueless, i'm not even sure if i know exactly what you mean...
Also i wonder if you have some tips for the actual drawing itself, i'm not good at it but i really hope to learn...

I believe I've resolved the transparency / alpha channel issues. Submit (non-animated) gif's and png's with confidence :)
man after seein' the saucier pics, i wish i would've submitted something.
I've been making pencil sketches on paper (relatively fast, takes less than an hour, even including going through episodes looking for the right pose to copy), then I trace the sketch using my tablet. That step totally sucks. I get a wobbly scrawl in "Painter Essentials" that looks like something drawn by the show's initial demographic. So chuck that, I trace into ZeFrank's Scribbler interface where size, not wobbles, matters. At least that way I get something interesting.

Coloured pony -- check!
Submitted pony -- check!
Got practice with tablet -- er, check?
Decided to simply mimic other people's work that i like for the moment, from that base i'll work forward.
I've already drawn Fluttershy-ish and Applejack went pretty well too, then again mimicing is a lot easier then thinking something up and then drawing from the mind but it's a start (can't post it thought, haven't got a scanner available right now).

Well crap. I just spent ages drawing Fluttershy to submit to day 5, and only now I read "breaking the sound barrier" -_-
It's like when teachers at school tell you "read the whole question before you answer", and I just failed.
Oh well, practice is still practice.

To help you with your sketches
Reference pictures is a big help.
#74 is my 4th time drawing a full pony so Reference helps a lot. Also the tutorial that this site provides help too. Only one tutorial helped me the rest I just picked up. So good luck and no problem. Glad to be of some help :3

C'mon, Jaayro, you can do it! A big circle over one end of a jelly bean, supported on elephant legs. Or print out what you like and trace! Tracing is great for getting all the pieces in the right places and sizes, and it gets you comfortable with drawing circles and angles. Go for it! Trace!
