Why not just go all the way and call it friendship; the gathering?
Not to be overly critical (or critical at all), but if you're going to rip off magic you might as well not half-flank it.

@Kjh242

There are tons of these card games you know. I don't know if Magic was the first, might very well be, but come on :P

Well, nothing more natural than making a Pony: The Friendship game, afterall, hasbro owns wizards of the coast and therefore the magic franchise

(I'm trying not to be transparent and reveal I were planning something like that)

THIS IM INTERESTED IN!!

Ooookay. Not even going to criticize here. I'm just going to go off and write up my own card game, hope you don't mind.

Pony: The Friendship?
I think you mean
Friendship is Magic: The Gathering.

The friendly mechanic seems sort of confusing. If I'm reading it correctly, it means essentially every Pony has the Magic equivalent of Morph but they keep their power and toughness and your opponent knows what it is. It also serves to make the games a lot slower unless a lot of the adventure cards make multiple amounts of Fluff.

@Anonymous

Whatever helps you sleep at night, brony

I don't think we should look harsh on it, it could be fun ya know? But a balanced TCG is something really hard to do (just take early days of MtG and you will see about time walk and moxes e lotus..)

This could use a lot of work from the comunity: aka getting us busy on ponies to wait for more ponies!

I'd be more eager for Pony 'Munchkin', but a 'Magic' is fine too.

@Spanosa

I do agree mostly with you, the pony enters without the friendship effect, until paid - what could slow the game

In the other hoof, his example of adventure generates 2 fluff so I imagine that having like 3 advetures in play makes the game faster than 3 lands in MtG

If its a well balanced way of doing it? Only time (and testing) will tell.

So, just for the sake of conversation: Who isn't designing a FIM cardgame?

Magic: Is Frienship is a good name, I think.

Well, consarn it. And here, I was working on a pony cardgame of my own, though more along the lines of Topps and Duel monsters. Or should that be Duel Ponies?

Untill I get frames and art done up, I'm not gonna make a big deal about this. ^^;

Anyone interested in doing a VideoGame about this in particular? Some homebrew for PSP or DS or PC or Android or iOs?

Simbaro said...

I like some of his ideas and mechanics and there is potential.

HOWEVER, there is too much resemblance to MTG. Ill rather dig out my own Magic cards if this becomes too simillar.

Amos said...

So what if it looks like MTG. We have already ponyfied almost everything until now, so why not that too. I haven't seen a single thing that ponification has damaged, so I don't think it's do that here. I personally look forwards to this.

Hmm.. and while this is being made a Yugioh Pony deck must be created and published onto YVD. Excuse me.

HolySparks said...

What about we all go on MWS and throw some ponies there?

Anonymous said...

Yah, what Amos said. It's pretty much Pony: The Friendshipping, but it still looks interesting, and I could see myself playing it.

I'm going to have to buy cardstock again, aren't I? Well if you insist.

Honestly though, it might be the Magic but hey why not. At least now all the math kids have a pony statistics project to keep them occupied.

As someone who's never played M:TG, the ruleset seems pretty complicated. I'm slightly concerned about how you'd keep track of large fluff heaps, in particular. If this is going to need 6 different colours of counter, I can't see it going anywhere.

Or am I missing something from Gathering?

Facelessguru said...

@Yappy the rate at wich things are played should make it easy to keep track of NOT to mention you wont be playing a deck with all 6 most likely 2 or 3 so counters shouldn't be a problem at all

i have noticed that the only card game this is referencing that anypony seems to have seen is M:TG where yu-gi-oh is a big part here too

Facelessguru said...

also i can't read half the text in that doc... wud up wit dat?

Amos said...

@Facelessguru
Same here. It cuts off at the Item mark, shows a card with trixie and stops.

Vallie said...

hi everypony,
just want to mention something as it keeps cropping up in every other comment.

yes, my game is like M:TG. so is Yu-Gi-Oh, WoW, Vampire, netrunner and a lot of other games. they all have decks, hands, graveyards, instants, creatures, spells, resources, items and abilities. they all have a win condition. they are all turn based. you see what i'm getting at?

it's the differences in the games that are important. i am not out to make a world shattering new paradigm of card-based entertainment, i want to make a fun game about ponies. thanks for all your input.
