Celestia Radio

Another new website has opened up! This time a radio station for pony music!

They are currently at 40 tracks of various remixes/official songs. If you are interested in contributing your music let them know! They only add stuff they get permission for.

The radio station can be found below, with the contact link at the bottom.

Is there NOTHING bronies haven't done?

In a fit of boredom, I actually tried to make an MLP Pandora station the other day.

Apparently, in addition to the show and American brand of vaguely frightening plastic toys, there is also a Norwegian indie rock band called "My Little Pony". Decent indie band, actually.

It works in Winamp. Just click the button and open with whatever application (winamp/itunes)

Skipping like crazy for me. I get a quarter second of audio and then have to wait for it to rebuffer.

Stream needs faster tubes!

Seconded.

Love! Want on iphone! How do?

When I tell it to play in iTunes it says "[playlist]
File1=http://ponifyme.dyndns.org:8080
Title1=Celestia Radio
Length1=-1

File2=http://k17.me:8000
Title2=Celestia Radio
Length2=-1

NumberOfEntries=2
Version=2`"

What can I do to make it play in iTunes?

Hmm... The streaming is really bad when I'm playing it from itunes. I can't tell who's fault it is though. But hell.
I'm really loving this. I think I'm gonna find some pretty sweet tracks off this =)

It worked flawlessly for the first six minutes, then started having to rebuffer. Wish I could just stream from the site itself, be hella simpler, aha

Couple suggestions for the ponies behind this:
- Author info (links to profiles or something), and maybe download links, would be really useful
- A list on the site of what recently played would also be useful. I hate thinking "gee that was a neat song" and then going to look at the title right when the song ends, and then missing it. (Which just happened.)
- Maybe it'd be a good idea to split the fanfic readings? Or have "shows" or something on a schedule. I dunno.

This is a really neat idea, and hopefully there'll be some more music soon that isn't Yet More Ponybeat :)

Contributed my single measly song :\

Download links and what not will be coming soon. I'm actually working on getting that set up right now. A recently played list is also on the todo list.

Another request: some sort of chat feature for listeners.
Another listener and I both looked up "Forgiveness" during the dramatic reading and ended up chatting for a while via Google Docs chat.
If nothing else, one option would be to put the playlist on Google Docs and let us chat there.

Listen to music for 5 seconds, stop to rebuffer, listen for 7 more seconds, rebuffer again; rinse and repeat.

Seemed like a good idea, but it's virtually unlistenable at the moment. Improvements would be much appreciated.

Didn't have any problems listening to it from Winamp.

Bookmark'd.

And I didn't have any problems listening from iTunes. Chances are that anyone who is plagued by buffering needs a faster computer and/or internet connection.

Tested it on VLC Player, works fine :)

Hello;

I run the k17.me mirror and I would just like to point out that some of the lag people may be experiencing could be caused by overloading the main stream. If you are having a lot of lag, you can try clicking "next song" on your media player to switch to the other stream, which will help balance the load for everypony.

I'm not completely sure how much traffic the each stream can accommodate at the moment, but if lag becomes a persistent issue (and not just a temporary mass influx of traffic) then we might look into some other bandwidth options.

Keep up informed if you have any problems with the stream and we will do our best to fix 'em up.

Cheers~

Celestia Radio works perfectly for me in Winamp. I hope this continues to grow with more songs.

Would that be the measly, 4 minute song, Luna Deos, that is playing on ENDLESS REPEAT in Windows Media Player on my laptop right now? That measly, little, gem? The one on endless repeat because it is EPIC? That one? 8^D

BTW, did I mention that Luna Deos is epic?

At fukken last!!! =D

the rebuffering isn't a problem for me, only happens once or twice in a couple of minutes.
but what i'm trying to figure out is how to put this in itunes radio (i'm kind of a newfriend when it comes to radio)

Brony_and_Proud said...

Couldn't get it to work on iTunes at first, but I just had to re-start iTunes and it's working now ^.^ I'd love to find a site to download these songs on an MP3 file. One that I can trust to not give me a virus (is paranoid)

@J~~
Chatter guy here. I second this proposal. It would be nice to discuss the songs as they are being played.

Hello,

Hooflander host of Celestia Radio here.
We have now switched to a professional hosting service so whatever bandwidth issues people were having should be resolved now. Remember to update your bookmarks/playlists from ponify.me

Additionally we set up a flash-player on the website so you can listen in in your browser.

Future improvements to the site will be a tracklist and links to downloadable versions of the songs.

Additionally we are discussing switching to a wordpress format to allow us to post updates about new artists and general news of the stream.

I'd like to thank EQ daily for their support and all you listeners, you have exceeded our expectations (hence the bandwidth problems) we never were prepared for this kind of interest from the community.

So, thank you all and happy listening.

PS: If anyone from the Streaming Is Magic podcast is reading this, could you please contact me/us directly over the ponify.me website. Thank you.

Anonymous said...

I managed to open it in safari on my iTouch. Click the play in iTunes button then refresh the page and it should play as a quicktime file.
