While we have previously doubted the accuracy of the meter, I attribute the constant speed to having a need to show a ticking meter for dramatic effect, and therefore the counter has already received the hits, but is letting it run on a fixed rate in order to draw the suspense out.
@AMMD Seth also has more accurate information at his disposal than just our counter. I'm sure he wouldn't say we hit 4mil hits if we didn't really hit 4mil hits.

I calculated it to be 93 hits a second yesterday. If you refresh the page it jumps by 20+ or so.
Also we average around 100,000 ,give or take, hits a day.
