Well, Otakon is great in the sense of, it's not just anime. There's TONS of non-anime stuff there, in fact, Otakon is really just a Convention of STUFF. I don't think Legend of Zelda or Halo is anime, yet those are pretty popular there. It's actually really fun.
Anyone going must wear MLP shirts, MUST.

If that's what you want to do. It's more just to make some friends, hang out, go off, whatever. The entire group doesn't have to stay with each other the entire time.

I'm actually pretty glad this is going down. Makes me feel less bad for doing a thing on the west coast.
Unless you are actually already planning to got to Otakon, don't bother with the meet up. Its going to cost you a lot to get into the convention, get room, gas, and all. If you don't stay at one of the hotels around the convention center you're going to have a hell of a drive downtown with the rudest aggressive drivers you can find and will have to pay a lot to park.
