I do believe it is supposed to be a pegasus spike, clicking on the picture reveals it as something in the address bar.
It probably would of helped if he looked a little more like a colt, or at least been colored. The only inclination that its a male is the lack of eyelashes.

Yeah, this is true. You can read John's (the artist behind #15) personal comments on this image over on his DA.
He is one of my personal heroes for starting his "One Pony per Bronie" program. And the speed with which he is able to generate this incredible pony art is rivaled only by the likes of MadMax.
That said, I guess I'm one of the few bronies who don't really like the kind of thing depicted in #15. I can see the appeal for people who like grimdark type stuff, but personally, its just a little too disturbing for my tastes.
#2 on the other hoof is very, VERY disturbing. That is a combination of fetishes that would take a psychologist a lifetime to unwind. ...also, I'm kind of okay with it. More please? OOPS, I mean, "more please, Mistress Rarity".
