He's fought a flaming hell beast and has been in contact with unicorns before. So this kind of thing is normal to Gandalf who understands magic explicitly.

I know. I wanted to expand on the set-up and the other characters, but this was written in a single evening when the inspiration hit me. I watched the 'Lord of the Ponies' AMV by the exceptionally talented Philweasel, and then 'Dragonshy'. So I was all like 'So Fluttershy's gaze attack, is it more effective the bigger the eye? I wonder how she'd do against the biggest evil eye in all of fantasy?' Everything else was just a way to put Fluttershy eye to eye with Sauron.
