I found the idea weird at first too, but...well, I started plotting it out, and it turned out nicely.
Then I wrote it, and it turned out that they were shy about it. So I scrapped most of the plot.

I might take a stab at it, despite not having read Final Crisis. I'd probably cobble together all sorts of alternate versions of the characters and try to figure out a plot.
